BONDURANT, IA (IRN) – Amazon.com is hiring for 1,000 warehouse positions at its new Bondurant fulfillment center, the company announced Monday. Amazon officials will host in-person hiring events by appointment and are asking applicants to sign up online. Employees will receive a starting salary of $15 an hour.
DAVENPORT, (IRN) – One person is dead after a report of gunfire at Chuck E. Cheese in Davenport, according to police. An unresponsive female was found inside the restaurant Sunday evening. Police say it was a homicide, and are investigating.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids Police Department announced the death of a former police chief yesterday. Chief Greg Graham died during a plane crash in Florida Sunday morning. Graham was chief between 2008 and 2012. With a strong focus on community policing, Chief Graham initiated the school resource officer program.
OLLIE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fall from a treestand in rural Ollie in Keokuk county which killed a 76-year-old man. Raymond Byers was reported missing after he didn’t return home from hunting Thursday. Rescue teams found Byers dead below the tree stand.
BLOOMINGTON, IN (IRN) – Nearly 20 years after the final episode, the captain of the U.S.S. Voyager was honored in her future birthplace. Leaders in Bloomington, Indiana, Saturday unveiled a sculpture of Captain Kathryn Janeway, the lead character of ‘Star Trek: Voyager.’ Captain Janeway was brought to life by Kate Mulgrew, a Dubuque-native. Mulgrew portrayed the first female Captain in the decades-old franchise, starring on Voyager for its entire seven-year run. Since its original run from 1995-2001, the show has found new life on streaming services, and a new generation of fans.
