CORALVILLE, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City woman is accused of assaulting two people at a store over wearing a face mask on Wednesday night. 30-year-old Evelyn Chinchilla allegedly spit on two victims after they made a comment about her not wearing a mask in a Walgreens. Officials said the three people became “entangled” and fell to the ground. Chinchilla then pulled out a handful of one of the victim’s hair and scratched their nose. She bit the other victim, breaking skin through the victim’s shirt.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa House voted Wednesday to pass a constitutional amendment that says Iowans do not have the fundamental right to abortion or public funding for it. The amendment now heads to a Senate subcommittee, which is expected to take it up next week. In order for the Iowa Constitution to be amended, the bill must be passed through the legislature twice and be approved by Iowa voters in an election.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The man responsible for using Mollie Tibbetts’ murder to further neo-Nazi agendas in robocalls is being fined. Scott Rhodes, 51, has been fined $9.9 million by the FCC. University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts was killed in the summer of 2018. Authorities arrested an undocumented immigrant for her murder. Shortly after Tibbetts’ body was found, Rhodes made hundreds of calls to Iowans claiming Tibbetts would have wanted to kill minorities he described with racial slurs.
IOWA (IRN) – More Americans, including Iowans, are putting off trips to the dentist’s office during the pandemic. 56% of Iowans admit they have delayed dental appointments since the COVID-19 pandemic began.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Cloris Leachman, who went from the halls of Roosevelt High School to a legendary acting career in Hollywood, has died at the age of 94. The highlight of her career came in 1971 when Leachman won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in “The Last Picture Show.”
