MILFORD, IA (IRN) – An Iowa man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot a woman multiple times in a parking lot Thursday morning. Officers arrested 25-year-old Christian Goyne-Yarns, of Spirit Lake, without incident. He has been charged with attempted murder and is being held in the Dickinson County Jail.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The pandemic is officially over in Iowa. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that she has signed the final extension of Iowa’s Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation and announced it will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The state’s websites that track virus data and provide vaccination information will be decommissioned the next day.

LOGAN, IA (IRN) – A fatal hit-and-run that stemmed from a fight between friends over mayonnaise has ended with a western Iowa man being sentenced to life in prison. Kristofer Erlbacher, 29, of Woodbine, was sentenced Monday to a mandatory life sentence in the 2020 killing of 30-year-old Caleb Solberg. The men were eating and drinking at a Moorhead bar when Erlbacher put mayonnaise on Solberg’s food. A fist fight between the two men ensued, and later Erlbacher ran over Solberg with his truck.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Democrats unveiled their plan to cut taxes for Iowans yesterday. They propose cutting taxes for the middle class, not for big corporations. To do that, they recommend expanding the child and dependent care tax credit for anyone earning less than $90,000 a year. Current Republican proposals would impose a flat tax rate on individuals.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa has announced the first person to commit in the history of the Iowa women’s wrestling program. Head coach Clarissa Chun announced Kylie Welker, from Franksville, Wisconsin, has signed a letter of intent. Welker is a 2021 Junior World Champion. She won a gold medal at the 2021 Junior World Championships, and led Team USA to its first Junior world team title. She’s considered the top recruit in the country.
