IOWA (IRN) – Average gas prices in Iowa have dropped 9.4 cents in the last week for a state average of $4.62. Prices in Iowa are 33.8 cents higher than a month ago and are $1.70 higher than a year ago.
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An abortion-rights protestor was run over by a truck and another was knocked down while crossing the street in front of the Federal Court building in Cedar Rapids Friday evening. Witnesses say the man drove around two vehicles, red-faced and yelling, when he ran a red light on purpose to strike a group of protestors crossing the street legally in the crosswalk. There will likely be no charges because Iowa has a law that says it is legal to strike protestors with vehicles.
DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque man faces several charges after he barricaded himself in his home and drove his own vehicle through his garage door. Deputies approached Dennis Miller outside his home because he has an active warrant for violating probation. Miller ran inside and wouldn’t come out. Miller then drove a vehicle from inside his garage through the door in an attempt to escape. He ran back into the house, and was taken into custody several hours later.
SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A Sioux City man is facing arson charges after authorities say he started a fire at a local convenience store where he was an employee. Orlando Castro has been charged with first-degree arson and second-degree criminal mischief. Authorities allege on June 22 Castro entered the Sam’s Mini-Mart and intentionally started a fire inside the store using its own merchandise.
IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A fire destroyed a church on the eastern side of Iowa City on Saturday morning. At around 4:20 a.m. fire department crews were sent to a report of a fire at Iowa City Church of Christ. The building was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
