IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa City man faces several charges after police say he threatened bar staff with a gun. Iowa City Police responded shortly after midnight Sunday to El Ray’s Live and Dive. Police say Alex Bwayonga, 18, pulled the gun after being kicked out of the bar. Police say Bwayonga had a stolen gun on him when he was arrested. During his arrest, police say Bwayonga appeared to have a medical emergency; he was given care at the scene and evaluated at an area hospital before being booked into jail.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police are investigating the 11th homicide of the year in Des Moines. Police say the victim was an adult male. He went to a local hospital yesterday afternoon with a gunshot wound and died.
MONONA COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A pilot has died following a crash over the weekend in Monona County in western Iowa. A commercial spray plane hit a powerline before crashing into the roadway on Saturday. Responding agencies found the plane in the roadway on fire.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – The Democratic National Committee will delay its plans to restructure the presidential nominating calendar until after the November midterms, prolonging Iowa’s fight to maintain its traditional first-in-the-nation caucuses. The committee had been slated to make a decision this week at meetings in Washington, D.C.
WINTERSET, IA (IRN) – A swimmer nearly drowned while having a seizure at the Winterset Aquatic Center Saturday, but the quick thinking of one 13-year-old saved their life. Soon-to-be 8th grader Chantz Haisman says he’s at the pool almost every day in the summer. He and his friends like to jump off the diving board. But as he was waiting in line on Saturday, the swimmer in front of him never resurfaced after jumping in. That’s when Chantz dove in, swam to the bottom of the pool and grabbed the drowning swimmer.
