CLIVE, IA (IRN) – A 70-year-old man was seriously injured this morning after police say a teen driver struck him with a car when he was crossing the street in Clive. The driver was a 15-year-old boy with a valid school permit. The boy told police the sun was in his eyes and didn’t see the man.

IOWA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced on Monday the first confirmed case of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type 2 within the state of Iowa. The disease, which was first detected in the United States in 2020, is a highly contagious viral disease that is fatal to lagomorph species (rabbits, hares, and pikas). It does not affect humans or other animals. Often, the only clinical signs of the disease are sudden death and blood-stained noses caused by internal bleeding.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Valley West Mall in West Des Moines may be trying to return to its shopping center roots by adding more stores after facing a series of financial troubles. The mall is now controlled by U.S. Bank, whose management company told store owners that it wants to restore the mall back to a bustling shopping destination. This spring, the bank filed a foreclosure petition in Polk County District Court against the mall.

IOWA (IRN) – On Tuesday, the Iowa Departments of Public Health and Human Services announced they were merging and aligning under a new agency brand.

IOWA (IRN) – A census of Iowa’s pheasant population shows that hunting should be good this fall. The Iowa DNR on Tuesday reported the results of their annual August roadside survey. This year’s survey found the ring-necked pheasant population statistically unchanged from last year. Hunters reported one of the biggest harvests of birds in years in 2021, so logic follows that a similar count this year will lead to similar hunting success.
