LOWDEN, IA (IRN) – One person was killed and another injured after a crash involving two motorcycles near Lowden in Cedar County Sunday. Both motorcycles were traveling eastbound on Old Lincoln Highway when the motorcycles left the road. One hit a traffic sign killing the driver. The other motorcyclist sustained minor injuries.

​​DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A teenager was shot in the foot early Saturday afternoon on the southeast side of Des Moines. The police department said over 150 shooting incidents have occurred in Des Moines this year. Approximately 25 percent of the shootings involved individuals under the age of 18 being injured or killed.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A bird strike caused a passenger jet to have to abort a landing and declare an emergency landing Sunday night at the Dubuque Regional Airport. The American Airlines flight from Chicago O’Hare into Dubuque struck a bird as it was approaching to land. That forced the pilots to pull back up and circle back to try to land again. The airport declared an emergency landing as a precaution, putting emergency vehicles on standby. Pilots were able to land the plane safely a few minutes later.

WAUKEE, IA (IRN) – With an average of seven people moving to Waukee each day, one of the metro’s biggest developers sees an opportunity. West Des Moines-based Hubbell Realty Co. has seven housing projects in different stages of planning and construction slated to be built in Waukee over the next two years. Hubbell plans to build nearly 1,050 units, including single-family rental homes, apartments, a senior living facility and condos.
