BOONE, IA (IRN) – An Ogden man is dead after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer. It happened Monday around 5:30 p.m., just east of Boone on Highway 30. According to the Iowa State Patrol, 34-year-old Brian Allen Lage, of Ogden, was driving a pickup truck when he hit the back of a tractor-trailer driven by 63-year-old Edward B. Adams, of Pleasant Hill. Adams was slowing to turn left from Highway 30 westbound to a private field drive at the time of the crash. Lage was transported to the hospital, where he died. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Polk County judge has again ruled against Governor Kim Reynolds and the “Fetal Heartbeat Bill” she signed into law four years ago, but which has never been allowed to take effect. The law would make abortions illegal after a heartbeat, or electrical impulses from the heart, were detected in an embryo. This could be as soon as six weeks after a woman becomes pregnant and before she knew she was pregnant.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – Two central Iowans will go on trial this week for charges tied to the insurrection and attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021. The mother-son duo, Deborah and Salvador Sandoval Jr., opted to have a bench trial rather than face a jury earlier this year. They both face multiple charges, including obstruction of an official proceeding. Salvador faces a total of 13 charges, including assaulting a peace officer.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are conducting a homicide investigation after finding a deceased woman at a home on Monday. Police officers conducted a requested welfare check on two people who live at the home and found the woman.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa is expected to receive $70 million as part of an agreement with CVS and Walgreens for their role in the opioid crisis. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller and other attorneys general from across the country announced the finalized agreement on Monday, saying CVS will pay $5 billion and Walgreens will pay $5.7 billion, for a total of $10.7 billion nationally.
