CHICKASAW COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Minnesota man died Monday while trying to load a construction vehicle onto a flatbed truck in northeast Iowa. The accident happened just before noon in Chickasaw County. Joseph Gathje, 21, was working to load the vehicle when it rolled off the trailer into the ditch and pinned him. Gathje was pronounced dead at the scene.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Governor Kim Reynolds is banning TikTok from all state-owned devices effective immediately. The ban also prohibits state agencies from subscribing to or owning a TikTok account. Reynolds says the app’s ties to the Chinese government are a national security threat.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Red Oak, said that she stands behind her vote to support the federal Respect for Marriage Act, despite censures for her actions by seven Iowa GOP county parties. Eleven other Republican senators supported the bipartisan legislation. Iowa’s other U.S. senator, Republican Chuck Grassley of New Hartford, voted against it. Those county parties included Des Moines, Guthrie, Ida, Mahaska, Pocahontas, Van Buren, and Wright.

COLESBURG, IA (IRN) – A 14-year-old from Colesburg is set to receive one of the 2022 Governor’s Lifesaving Awards for his quick action after a UTV accident in Delaware County earlier this year. Brody Oberbroeckling was outside in his yard when he saw three girls go by on a UTV. A few minutes later, he heard screaming. He ran to where the UTV had crashed, pinning one of the girls underneath. Brody was able to hold up the side of the UTV while others rescued the girl.
