WASHINGTON, D. C. (IRN) – Doug Jensen, the Des Moines man convicted in the January 6th Capitol riots and insurrection, has been sentenced to five years in prison. The federal judge slammed Jensen for his “lack of remorse and for emboldening attack on Officer Eugene Goodman” on the day of the riots. Jensen was found guilty on all counts in September.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – A federal judge ruled that Salvador Sandoval of Ankeny was guilty of all 12 counts for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and insurrection. Sandoval was found guilty of six misdemeanors and six felonies, including assaulting, resisting or impeding four police officers while inside the Capitol that day. He faces over 20 years in prison.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly crash on Fleur Drive on Tuesday. Thirty-five-year-old Robert Miller III has been arrested on multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, drag racing and excessive speed. A four-year-old was killed.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An arrest has been made in relation to a house fire in September that injured a firefighter and a man who lived at the home. Jesse James of Iowa City has been charged with second-degree arson for the fire. At the scene, emergency responders found a man found in the front yard, suffering from burns and wounds sustained in the fire. In the process of fighting the fire, one firefighter was injured when ceiling materials gave way and fell on him.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A 39-year-old woman was killed by a car Tuesday in Davenport. She is one of at least 44 Scott County pedestrians hit by cars this year. Three pedestrians have died in Scott County in 2022. Another seven have been seriously injured. All others suffered minor injuries. Overall, pedestrian fatalities are up across the nation, accounting for 17% of all traffic deaths.
