GRIMES, IA (IRN) – A Clive mother discovered burns on her toddler’s body and now she wants to know what happened to her at day care. She believes her daughter may have been burned by bleach at the Yellow Brick Road Day Care in Grimes. Sophia Ewing says her 1-and-a-half-year-old daughter Zi’Airah is recovering from burns on her bottom.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – In the early hours of Tuesday morning, state lawmakers approved Gov. Reynolds’ plan to use taxpayer money to pay private school tuition. The bill passed with a 55-45 vote in the Iowa House and a 31-18 vote in the Iowa Senate. Reynolds is expected to sign the bill into law this afternoon. Once fully phased in, the plan will cost the state more than $340 million annually.
DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police have arrested 18-year-old Preston Walls, of West Des Moines, in connection to a deadly shooting at Starts Right Here, a Des Moines outreach center. Walls is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of criminal gang participation. Two others are in custody.
WEBSTER COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A former Webster County choir teacher was sentenced to two years probation for sending inappropriate texts to a student. Brandon Louis worked at Southeast Valley High School in Gowrie. In 2020, several students accused him of sexual misconduct. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation by a school employee.
COLUMBUS, OH (IRN) – Caitlin Clark scored a game-high 28 points and Monika Czinano added 22 as No. 10 Iowa defeated No. 2 Ohio State 83-72, giving the Buckeyes their first loss of the season. The Hawkeyes (16-4, 8-1 Big Ten) kept Ohio State scoreless for more than 2 1/2 minutes in the fourth quarter, allowing Iowa to command a 13-point advantage with 3:11 remaining. Ohio State (19-1, 8-1) gave it one more try and went 4 of 9 from the field in the final three minutes, but the Hawkeyes made all eight attempts at the free throw line to seal the win.
