IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A phone call got an Iowa City woman kicked out of a comedy show Saturday night and her response landed her in jail.  KCRG-TV reports 22-year-old Chyna Simms was at comedian Kevin Hart’s show at Carver Hawkeye Arena. The show has a strict no cellphone policy, yet Simms called a friend. She refused to leave, was then arrested for criminal trespass, then refused to be handcuffed, and kicked an officer.

ALTOONA, IA (IRN) – An Urbandale teen is being charged as an adult after police say he rammed a stolen SUV into a police car in Altoona. WHO-TV reports sixteen-year-old Mark Freeman is charged with assault with a weapon, first degree theft, possession of stolen property, driving under suspension, and reckless driving. When officers tried to pull the vehicle over Freeman rammed the patrol car.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport woman is facing charges after she started a fire in the apartment she shares with her boyfriend, according to the Quad City Times. Dorothy Kelly, 51, is charged with first-degree arson and domestic abuse. Kelly had been in an argument with her boyfriend when she went after him with a hammer. When the boyfriend locked himself in the bathroom, Kelly first beat on the door with the hammer, then set it on fire.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Two men have been charged after allegedly shooting two Trumpeter swans at the Princeton Wildlife Area in Scott County. Levi Young, 25, of Davenport, and Kyle Munson, 25, of Eldridge, allegedly shot the swans while waterfowl hunting, killing one and injuring the other. In addition to the charges of unlawful taking of protected species, DNR law enforcement officers seized three shotguns, shotgun shells, a boat, motor and trailer.

MUSCATINE, IA (IRN) – A 4-year-old died Saturday morning after an ATV rollover accident. An Iowa State Patrol crash report says Lukas Thompson, of Coralville, was operating an ATV on private property in Muscatine when the ATV hit uneven ground and rolled over. The crash report lists the 4-year-old as the driver of the vehicle. Lukas was taken to Trinity Muscatine Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Dubuque Police are investigating a possible homicide this morning. KDTH-Radio reports police were called to an address at approximately 11:00 last night on a report of shots being fired. Officers arriving on scene found a dead body that they describe as “having wounds consistent with gunshots.”

CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – One person is in the hospital and another is in jail following a crash involving a car and a motorcycle Sunday night in Cedar Falls.  KWWL-TV reports the motorcyclist, 21-year-old Cory Goecken of Waterloo, was taken to the hospital with head injuries. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Kayla Ginther of Waterloo, was not hurt. She was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail and has been charged with OWI first offense.

NEVADA, IA (IRN) – Nevada’s mascot, Cubbie, spreads joy every Friday night. The biggest smile, however, happens inside the mask.  KCCI-TV reports behind the mask is senior Caleb Popejoy. “He’s autistic,” says his mother. “He was anti-social and had a hard time being around people. Being the mascot, being in Cubbie, has really brought out his social side.” These days, she says, he doesn’t even need the mask to interact with people.
