VAN METER, IA (IRN) – The body of a man officials say fell off his inner tube while floating on the Raccoon River Sunday has been found this morning. Emergency crews were originally called to the river in an area near Van Meter on Sunday afternoon after a man on an inner tube fell into the water and disappeared. Crews searched the river until dark Sunday and resumed their search on Monday. CORALVILLE, IA (IRN) – An investigation is underway after a boy from Coralville died from apparent gunshot injuries. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says 3-year-old Damaria Sanders, of Coralville, died Sunday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. The boy suffered gunshot wounds earlier that day inside his home. LOVILIA, IA (IRN) – A homicide investigation is underway in Lovilia (low-VIL-uh). Authorities found a woman’s body in a rural part of the county. Deputies were not able to make contact with the victim’s husband. When they went to the man’s home, he refused to come out. A negotiation team was called to his home to de-escalate the situation with the man. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. WEBSTER CITY, IA (IRN) – A man from the Hamilton County town of Kamrar is dead after the car he was driving crashed through the front window of a home near Webster City Saturday. The Iowa State Patrol said 32-year-old Jory Lanken, of Kamrar, ran a stop sign, entered a ditch and went airborne before plowing through the window. No one was home at the time. Lanken was trapped in the car and pronounced dead at the scene. BOONE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – There will soon be a new way for sight-seers to experience the beauty of central Iowa’s Des Moines River valley. Starting this month, nature lovers will be able to pedal down the tracks of the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad on four-wheeled, motor-assisted, open-air carts also known as rail bikes. On July 21 Rail Explorers USA will open its 12.4-mile round-trip tour, which winds along the Des Moines River and features a crossover of the 156-foot-tall Bass Point Creek High Bridge.

BUTLER COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One adult and two children were injured after their car crashed into a train on Sunday in Parkersburg. According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Aleshia Meeks, 28, failed to yield to a train that was traveling westbound. Meeks was critically injured and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Two children aged four and one were also injured and taken to hospitals. VAN METER, IA (IRN) – Dallas County authorities are searching for a man who went underwater in the Raccoon River. At about 4:30 p.m. Sunday, rescue crews from several metro-area agencies rushed to the scene in Van Meter. Initial reports indicated that tubers were in distress. A man in his mid-30s went underwater, and authorities have not found him as of Sunday night. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new fiscal year started on Friday, with state departments dealing with new budgets. There are also several new laws that are officially in place as of July 1. Among them are big changes to the state’s unemployment system. The number of weeks one is able to claim an unemployment check was reduced from 26 to16 weeks. IOWA (IRN) – High heat and humidity as well as chances for thunderstorms are set to dominate the forecast this week, and today will kick things off with both. First, thunderstorms will be possible across Central and Northern Iowa through the morning hours. Once the scattered showers and storms are out of the way, the extra humidity from any rain that may fall plus another warm south wind, will push heat index values over 100 into the 105 degree range by the afternoon. A Heat Advisory will kick in at 1 p.m. for much of the state.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Three eastern Iowa teens are dead following a high-speed rollover crash in Dubuque early Friday morning. A Chevy Camaro driven by 18-year-old William Wodrich IV was traveling at a high rate of speed when Wodrich lost control. The car entered the ditch, vaulted, and then rolled. Wodrich and his passengers, 17-year-olds Kennedy Elskamp and Chloe Lucas of Dubuque, were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man died in a motorcycle crash Friday after accelerating away from a sheriff’s deputy in Des Moines. During rush hour Friday afternoon, a Polk County sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over the motorcycle. The driver accelerated away from the deputy and the traffic stop was abandoned. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist failed to yield to a red light at an intersection and collided with a vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to a hospital where he died. IOWA (IRN) – There is a probable case of monkeypox in Iowa. The patient was likely infected during international travels and is isolating and receiving outpatient care. Monkeypox does not spread easily between people without close contact. It is typically characterized by a new, unexplained rash and skin lesions. Other early symptoms of monkeypox include fever, chills, and swollen lymph nodes. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Peacock has pulled the plug on a TV series inspired by the 1989 classic “Field of Dreams.” The limited series was set to be filmed in Iowa. However, the dream isn’t completely dead, as Universal Television is shopping the project to other outlets. It was scheduled to begin filming this summer.

SAC COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An employee for two hog confinement sites was arrested for livestock neglect after Sheriff’s deputies discovered over 1,000 dead pigs in Sac County on Thursday. Elana May Laber, 33, who was employed to take care of the animals, said she knew the pigs had been dead for a week but didn’t know what to do. ​​DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court has reversed a longstanding precedent that allowed landowners to sue for damages when a neighboring hog farm causes water pollution or odor problems that affect quality of life. The reversal is a significant blow to property owners who live in rural areas who want to take legal action over expanding hog farms. Iowa is the nation’s leading pork producer with 23 million pigs. NEW YORK, IA (IRN) Brownells, an Iowa gun distributor, was sued along with nine other gun distributors by the state of New York for their alleged role in “ghost gun” sales in the state on Wednesday. According to the lawsuit, the gun distributors allegedly sold gun parts called frames and receivers to residents of New York and did not follow state and federal laws while doing so. Frames and receivers are often used to build ‘ghost guns’ that are untraceable for law enforcement. U.S.A. (IRN) – In a seismic shift in college athletics, the Big Ten voted Thursday to add Southern California and UCLA as conference members beginning in 2024. The expansion to 16 teams will make the Big Ten the first conference to stretch from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

LEON, IA (IRN) – A child was killed in Leon in Decatur County in an accident involving a front-end loader. A hay bale had fallen off a truck’s trailer, driven by 41-year-old Justin Miller. After Miller retrieved the hay bale from the ditch with a front-end loader, he then turned into a private driveway and hit a 6-year-old. The child was fatally injured in the incident. GRANT COUNTY, WI (IRN) – A man was killed in a collision yesterday with a semi in Grant County, Wisconsin. A 47-year-old semi-truck driver from Dubuque was driving a 2021 Freightliner semi when it collided head on with a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. 33-year-old Nathan Williams was driving the Pontiac with his toddler son in the back seat when the car crossed the centerline at a curve in the road and hit the truck. The toddler is in the hospital under observation. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – On Monday, Cedar Falls Police received a call from Blaine’s Farm & Fleet that two men left with a quantity of ammunition without paying for it. They stole approximately 1300 rounds of .223 caliber rifle ammunition and fled the scene before officers arrived. The following morning officers received another call from the store saying one of the men had returned and was in the same ammunition aisle. 22-year-old Jalen Malik Seals was taken into custody without incident. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Governor Kim Reynolds told reporters yesterday that she doesn’t plan on holding a special session of the legislature to ban abortion in Iowa. INDEPENDENCE, IA (IRN) – Former Buchanan County Deputy Klint Bentley says he’s not guilty of charges including extortion and accepting a bribe. Bentley allegedly stopped a car in rural Buchanan County for speeding on February 4th, 2022. Court records indicate Bentley asked the driver to show him her breasts, implying he would not issue a citation if she did. Bentley allegedly continued to solicit nude photos of the woman via text message after the traffic stop. A criminal complaint says the victim recorded the traffic stop.
