DENISON, IA (IRN) – A pursuit near Denison in Harrison ended with a car on fire and a driver taken directly to jail earlier this week. A driver tried to elude troopers on Interstate 29. Troopers were able to use stop sticks to flatten the tires of the suspect vehicle. The driver continued to drive on their flat tires which caused their vehicle to catch fire. Troopers then helped pull the driver out of the burning vehicle and took them to jail. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The city of Des Moines has had its eighth murder of the year. Fifty-eight-year-old Tony Earl Arterberry has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a woman in the Drake neighborhood. Her name and the circumstances of her death have not been released. JEFFERSON, IA (IRN) – A Jefferson city employee who allegedly fired a weapon more than 20 times in the direction of three juvenile girls after one refused to perform a sex act in a park has been arrested. 28-year-old Michael Teeples has been terminated from his position with the city and faces numerous charges. DECORAH, IA (IRN) – A Calmar man with three outstanding felony arrest warrants was arrested in Decorah on Monday after a high-speed chase. Michael Foland, 20, led deputies and officers on a chase after they tried to stop his vehicle when they recognized him. The chase went north of Decorah, then through a farm field and back to Decorah before Foland rolled his vehicle trying to drive over a dike. He was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff with law enforcement. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Confluence Brewing of Des Moines has won a top prize at the World Beer Cup. The winning brew is called Over the Ivy. It’s described as a Czech-style pilsner, containing grain from Bohemia. The name is a tip of the hat to the 2016 World Champion Chicago Cubs. Confluence beat out close to 2,500 breweries from 57 countries around the world to win the World Beer Cup in the Bohemian Pilsner category.

PERRY, IA (IRN) – A Perry police officer was injured Tuesday morning in a shooting. An officer was shot in the leg. The investigation is ongoing. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines woman charged in a deadly hit-and-run crash last month has pleaded not guilty. 38-year-old Terra Flipping entered a written plea last week. Flipping is charged with leaving the scene of the deadly crash that killed 14-year-old Ema Cardenas. Flipping turned herself in to the police the morning after the crash. WEBSTER CITY, IA (IRN) – The trial for the Grundy Center man accused of killing a 27-year veteran of the Iowa State Patrol begins Monday. Michael Lang, 42, will be in court in Webster City standing trial for the murder of Sgt. Jim Smith. Lang is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Sgt. Smith during a standoff in Grundy Center. WILLIAMSON, IA (IRN) – A Lucas County 17-year-old was pulled over and given a breathalyzer test on Feb. 10, in the Lucas County town of Williamson. Kylea Parker and her family don’t deny she had alcohol in her system when she was pulled over that night. However, they say she shouldn’t have been forced to change her pants on the side of the road. Parker had wet pants on during the time of the traffic stop, due to circumstances not related to the traffic stop. She says she was forced to change them, while on the side of the road, with a Lucas County Deputy parked behind her. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Kylie McCaughey has wanted to be a police officer for as long as she can remember. Now the Marion Police Department believes she may be the youngest officer they’ve ever hired. Officer McCaughey joined the Department in 2021 at 18-years-old. She has since turned 19. The Linn-Mar High School graduate is now wearing the same uniform as her school resource officer Tom Daubs.

AMES, IA (IRN) – A man was found shot to death outside of an apartment complex in Ames early Monday morning. Upon arrival, officers found the body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the man is around 40 years of age. They aren’t certain if he lived at the apartment complex or in the neighborhood. MARION COUNTY IOWA (IRN) – A boat capsized in the Des Moines River Saturday afternoon southeast of Runnells. Of the three on board, two made it to safety, and 34-year-old Dustin Lee Dittmer of Colfax is still missing. The search began Saturday afternoon, continued all day Sunday, and will resume Monday morning. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Three Iowa teens were shot during a Roosevelt High School prom after-party early Sunday morning. A 17-year-old girl and two 18-year-old men were shot. Police say there were 200 people at the house; most of them teenagers. A group who was not invited to the party showed up and a fight broke out. That’s when shots were fired. All of the victims are expected to be okay. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN – An investigation is underway following a report of a shooting near Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City on Sunday. One person was hospitalized for a gunshot wound. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A lightning strike caused a fire at the Brownstone Apartments in Des Moines Sunday morning. Brownstone residents said a flash of light woke them up around 7:30 a.m. While no one was hurt, about 20 residents are now displaced due to the fire.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (KRN) – Nearly two dozen workers were taken to local hospitals after elevated levels of carbon monoxide were found inside the offices and warehouse of NFI Interactive Logistics in Cedar Rapids. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Protesters gathered Friday night in downtown Des Moines to rally over abortion rights and the treatment of historically oppressed communities in the U.S. The organizers said they wanted to speak out in the wake of the leaked Supreme Court draft indicating an end to Roe v. Wade. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Hy-Vee laid off an additional 57 people from the company’s West Des Moines-based corporate offices on Friday. Since March, the company has steadily cut positions across several marketing, communications and technology departments including from its “Helpful Smiles Technology” center in Grimes. In the last several weeks the company reduced more than 415 positions from its corporate offices. LOUISVILLE, KY (IRN) – A racehorse with an Iowa tie is a favorite to win the Kentucky Derby today. Mo Donegal is owned by Jerry Crawford, CEO of Donegal Racing. FanDuel reports Mo Donegal currently has 10-1 odds to win the Kentucky Derby today.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – A Redfield man who faced the most serious charges of any Iowan in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the United States Capitol has pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer that day. Kyle Young pleaded guilty to assaulting police officer Michael Fanone on the steps of the Capitol on Jan. 6. He will be sentenced in August and faces up to eight years in jail. ADEL (IRN) – An eighth Iowan was arrested this week for allegedly ALSO participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. Chad Heathcote, 41, of Adel was charged Tuesday in D.C. District Court with two offenses: entering and remaining in a restricted building with intent to impede or disrupt an official proceeding and disorderly or disruptive conduct. More than 750 people in 48 states have been charged with participating in the Jan. 6 riot that left five people dead. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Police have made an arrest in relation to a fatal vehicle accident that occurred Thursday afternoon. Cedar Rapids Police and Firefighters were dispatched to I-380 and Highway 30 for a report of a black SUV that had collided with a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle and died. The driver of the SUV was uninjured. 39-year-old Carlos Garcia has been charged with Vehicular Homicide and OWI. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – About 100 students at Northview Middle School in Ankeny walked out of class Thursday. They say they want to speak out about human rights that could be in danger because of the possible decision to overturn Roe v Wade by the Supreme Court. EARTH (IRN) – After six months in orbit, Iowa astronaut Raja Chari is home. Chari is commander of the SpaceX Crew-3 mission and he and three other astronauts left the International Space Station yesterday. He’s a Cedar Falls native.
