URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – Urbandale police say a man left his 74-year-old partner lying on a bedroom floor for days before her death. Court documents show Gregory Quick called 911 four days after the woman fell. He gave her no food or water, according to police. Quick admitted he was the victim’s caretaker. She died days later at the hospital. He’s charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The number of people hospitalized due to the coronavirus and the number of confirmed infections have dropped in Iowa, but hundreds of people in the state remain seriously ill with the virus. While hospitalizations have dropped about 10% in a week, Iowa has 849 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 130 in intensive care. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have arrested a man who allegedly snuck into a hospital and bottle-fed a baby that wasn’t his. Adam Wedig, 36, is charged with two counts of criminal trespassing. He’s being held in the Polk County Jail. Detectives determined there was no intent to do the infant harm. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new report by State Auditor Rob Sand says there are no significant concerns regarding the integrity of the COVID-19 data reported by the Iowa Department of Public Health on its public website. Sand found any delays and late-recorded test results appear to be attributable entirely to private labs submitting results late, rather than any issues from the Iowa state government. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new, high-tech downtown Des Moines parking system will begin partial service in a few weeks. The traditional parking meters will soon be replaced with new parking kiosks. You can use the new Park Des Moines phone app and pay from your phone.

CARLISLE, IA (IRN) – Carlisle police are looking for a man who tried to rob a Dollar General in Carlisle Sunday night. Police say the man demanded money from the cashier while displaying a handgun and when the cashier refused, he fled the scene. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A man accused of killing a woman and then setting her body on fire is pleading not guilty. Dominick Daniel Degner, 28 of Mason City, is scheduled to stand trial on April 19 on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson. Court documents say Degner beat Tonette Wolfe, 24, to death and then used gasoline to set fire to her body. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Closing time on Court Avenue in downtown Des Moines was met with flying bottles and gunshots Sunday morning. Des Moines police say several fights happened as bars closed. Items were thrown including bottles. Luis Manriquez, 25, was arrested after police say he pulled a gun on a security guard at Voodoo Lounge Bar. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison after rigging a lottery game in his favor will be released from prison early. Eddie Tipton, 58, has been serving the sentence for a charge of ongoing criminal conduct. He pleaded guilty to the charge in 2017. Tipton was accused of rigging a computer program while employed at the Multi-State Lottery Association to enable him to pick winning numbers in several lottery games over six years. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Amazon plans to hire more than 200 people through full-time and contract positions for its new delivery station in Dubuque. The center opened this month with 30 employees. Officials say they hope to add 100 to 150 warehouse workers. The facility is expected to process approximately 25,000 packages per day.

MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A man accused of killing a woman and then setting her body on fire is pleading not guilty. Dominick Daniel Degner, 28 of Mason City, is now scheduled to stand trial beginning April 19 on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson. Court documents state Degner beat Tonette Wolfe, 24, to death and then used gasoline to set fire to Wolfe’s body. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison after rigging a lottery game in his favor will be released from prison early. Eddie Tipton, 58, has been serving the sentence for a charge of ongoing criminal conduct. He pleaded guilty to the charge in 2017. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines city leaders heard from community members about the city’s budget and how to spend millions of dollars in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) on Saturday morning. The city received $94.8 million in ARPA funding. City leaders plan to organize several public meetings at different locations to hear the community’s input on how to use the ARPA funding. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A woman has died from injuries she suffered in a crash near the Des Moines International Airport Tuesday night. A Chrysler Pacifica was speeding southbound on Fleur Drive when it rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade. The driver of the Escalade, 67-year-old Nancy Jean Horton, died from her injuries on Thursday. The Pacifica caught fire, and bystanders had to pull the unconscious 24-year-old driver from the vehicle. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The body of a 22-year-old man found Friday morning in a Cedar Rapids park marks the second homicide of the year in the city. Thursday was the first. A bus driver saw the body at Cedar Valley Park on Friday morning. 22-year-old Kavon Johnson had at least one gunshot wound. They believe whoever killed him knew and targeted the victim. IOWA (IRN) – The eight overnight RAGBRAI stops for 2022 have been announced. From west to east they are: Sergeant Bluff, Ida Grove, Pocahontas, Emmetsburg, Mason City, Charles CiTY, West Union, and Lansing. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The latest installment of the Penn State-Iowa wrestling rivalry went to the Nittany Lions, as top-ranked Penn State beat No. 2 Iowa 19-13 Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

POLK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Jester Park Nature Center in Polk County is considering hiring security after several tense confrontations over masks. County officials at Jester Park do require visitors to wear masks inside the nature center — compliant with Polk County’s decision to require masks in their buildings. They say most people don’t cause any issues, but recently, a handful of visitors have argued with staff and volunteers. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – A man who was shot in the face in Ankeny Tuesday has died. Police say 21-year-old Eli Reed passed away Wednesday. Reed was injured in a shooting at the Ankeny apartment he shared with friend 24-year-old John Peak. Peak was drunk and handling a loaded gun when the shooting happened. Reed was struck in the face by the bullet. Peak will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after a shooting in Cedar Rapids on Thursday. Police responded to reports of a shooting, and found the dead man lying in the street. Investigators say it appears it was a targeted incident. LINN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids and Swisher Firefighters rescued a man trapped in a corn silo at a farm in rural Linn County on Wednesday. They successfully freed the man using specialized panels to isolate him and then remove the grain that was trapping him. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – After months of planning, a USL Championship pro soccer team will kick off in central Iowa starting in 2024. Krause Group and USL made the announcement on Thursday night at the Greater Des Moines Partnership Dinner. The team’s name will be chosen with help from the community.
