DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa motorists will soon have the option of keeping their driver’s license on their phones. State officials have begun a pilot project to make digital driver’s licenses, or “mobile IDs,” available for download via smartphone apps sometime in 2022. ALGONA, IA (IRN) – Police Officers responded to a disturbance at a Super 8 Motel in Algona Thursday morning at approximately 12:15 am. One officer discharged his firearm as a result of circumstances upon arrival. A high-speed pursuit emerged until the driver lost control of the vehicle. The suspect is under custody. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A western Iowa farmer and former county supervisor will end his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Chuck Grassley. Dave Muhlbauer announced Tuesday he would no longer seek the Democratic nomination for Senate. In his announcement, Muhlbauer noted the recent death of a nephew and the “devastating effect” on his family. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The number of passengers traveling through the Des Moines International Airport during the long holiday weekend may surpass the pre-pandemic total from 2019, officials said. The airport projected more than 21,000 passengers between Wednesday and Sunday. The total over the same period in 2019 was 20,000. LINCOLN, NE (IRN) – Milton Andrew Munson’s obituary recalled his life as an Air Force veteran, a pharmacist, husband and father, and as a Nebraska football fan. That was evident in one line in the obit: “In lieu of flowers, please place an irresponsibly large wager on Nebraska beating Iowa.” Munson, 73, died Nov. 16.

URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – MercyOne confirms that children that got their COVID-19 vaccine shots at a mass vaccination clinic held Saturday got the wrong dose. It says 20 micrograms of the Pfizer vaccine was given to children under the age of 12 at an Urbandale clinic. That is double the correct dose, but less than an adult dose. The side effects are still minor, including sore arm, mild fever, headache, and fatigue, but may be more pronounced. IOWA (IRN) – There were 10,346 new COVID-19 cases from Wednesday, November 17 to Wednesday, November 24, according to the state’s dashboard, bringing the state’s total number of cases to 518,859. That’s an average of 1,478 new cases per day over the last 7 days. The number of new cases is up 12% from new cases reported last week. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Wells Fargo & Co. employees must prove they are vaccinated against COVID-19 or agree to submit to regular testing, the company announced Tuesday. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Police have noticed a rising trend in car thefts and car break-ins around the Cedar Valley. In Cedar Falls, Investigations Captain Jeff Sitzmann says 20 would be a high number for the city. So far, in 2021 there have been 40. He warns people to not only lock their car doors but to make sure there aren’t any valuables in the car, including car keys.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police are looking for the people who crashed a vehicle that had been stolen earlier in the day on Tuesday. Officials said the crash happened just after 8 p.m. in the area of the northbound ramp from I-380. Police said the vehicle was speeding while exiting the interstate. That’s when it crashed, rolled and stopped at the railroad tracks. Multiple people were inside the vehicle at the time, but they ran away by the time officers arrived. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two southeast Iowa teenagers charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of their high school Spanish teacher asked a state court judge Tuesday to lower their bond so they could be released from jail. Willard Noble Chaiden Miller and Jeremy Everett Goodale, both 16, are accused of killing their high school Spanish teacher Nohema Graber in Fairfield. MARION, IA (IRN) – First responders answered a “shots fired” 911 call near Indian Creek Elementary School in Marion on Tuesday. They located an adult male who had pulled into the school parking lot after his vehicle had been struck by gunfire. The school went into a temporary “lock-out” and police are investigating. WAUKEE, IA (IRN) – The Waukee Police Department recovered a gun from a student’s backpack Tuesday. Waukee Timberline School staff told authorities that there was a possible gun in a student’s backpack. When police searched the student’s bag, they found a handgun. There were no threats made, and the student claimed they had the gun for “self-protection regarding a non-school related matter.” Authorities took the gun and transported the student to a juvenile detention facility. IOWA (IRN) – The Iowa State Patrol is reminding drivers to follow the rules of the road over the Thanksgiving holiday, and to use a designated driver if alcohol is consumed.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A judge today sentenced an Illinois man, who pleaded guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend in Dubuque this year, to 50 years in prison. Prosecutors initially charged Richard Forsythe with first degree murder. He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second-degree murder. Forsythe admitted to stabbing and killing Jennifer Lopez. Police found her body at the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on Feb. 1. CENTERVILLE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a deadly shooting in Appanoose County that involved police officers and a deputy. 45-year-old Kevin Arbogast was shot and killed. What led to the officers firing is unclear. GOWRIE, IA (IRN) – A former teacher in Webster County has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee. Brandon Louis, 29, is the former choir director at Southeast Valley High School in Gowrie. ​​DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A judge ruled Monday an Iowa law that prohibits Medicaid coverage for sex reassignment surgeries for transgender residents violates state law and the state constitution. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Approximately 300 students in Linn-Mar High School walked out of class on Friday for dueling rallies after Transgender Awareness Week were vandalized. LGBTQ+ students say they fear for their safety. Students and parents say chants of “White Power” occur in the school often, and they’ve seen posts on social media about people bringing weapons to school. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – For the University of Iowa football team to have a shot at the Big Ten title, the team has to beat the University of Nebraska on Friday in Lincoln. Beating the Huskers will no longer require stopping star quarterback Adrian Martinez. He’s out with a shoulder injury. Martinez is the heart and soul of the team. He leads Nebraska in rushing yards and is fourth in the Big Ten in passing.

APPANOOSE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after being shot by law enforcement officials just outside of Centerville Sunday. Two Centerville officers and an Appanoose County sheriff’s deputy responded to the scene on a report of a domestic assault. While they were investigating the incident, the law enforcement officers became engaged in a shooting that resulted in the death of another person. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Falls Police were dispatched to the Days Inn after a victim walked in and said he had been assaulted. The victim said he had been at a residence meeting with an acquaintance where he was held by force and restrained to a chair. The victim reported being burned, struck with blunt objects and gagged while being restrained by two subjects who were armed with a handgun. A man and a woman are in custody. BOONE, IA (IRN) – The Boone Police Department says Officer Mario Gonzalez died in a traffic accident on Saturday. Gonzalez was off duty at the time. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. WOODWARD, IA (IRN) – A massive warehouse development on the edge of Woodward — often rumored to be but never confirmed as Amazon — has been halted. The warehouse and distribution facility was intended to have more than 1,000,000 square feet of space and potentially employ 1,000 people. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – UNI has made the FCS playoffs and will face Eastern Washington in the opening round on Saturday. Northern Iowa (6-5) will play at Eastern Washington (9-2) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The winner of the Northern Iowa-Eastern Washington game will face No. 6 Montana (9-2) on Friday, Dec. 3 at 8 p.m. The first and second rounds will be streamed on ESPN+.
