DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines man is accused of taking his neighbors’ child without permission. Deng Kodok, 21, is charged with child stealing, intoxication and interference with official acts. Court documents show Kodok was likely drunk when he took the child to Jordan Creek Mall Saturday without the permission of the child’s parents. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Davenport police are investigating after a 35-year-old Davenport man was shot and killed Sunday morning at a strip club. Davenport officers responded just before 3 a.m. to Déjà Vu Showgirls for a disturbance and heard gunshots. Officers found a man who had been shot. About 10,000 John Deere workers are on strike. LINN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A family from Arizona is counting their blessings this weekend after escaping a car fire Saturday afternoon. First responders were called to Highway 30 near the Cedar River in Linn County shortly after noon. When they arrived the car was engulfed in flames. No one was injured.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Bullets ripped through downtown Des Moines Sunday morning injuring three people. Police say the shooting happened around 2 a.m. at 3rd Street and Court Avenue. Three people were shot and taken to the hospital. One person was shot in the abdomen, another in the shoulder, and the third in the elbow. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Two days after the United Auto Workers overwhelmingly rejected a new contract agreement with John Deere, CEO and Chairman John May reported selling $72,473 of company stock. About 10,000 John Deere workers are on strike. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Unranked Purdue continued its recent mastery over No. 2 Iowa with a 24-7 upset Saturday. The Boilermakers (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) have won four of their last five games against the Hawkeyes (6-1, 3-1). The loss ended Iowa’s 12-game winning streak. MANHATTAN, KS (IRN) – Iowa State downed Kansas State 33-20 Saturday night. The Wildcats had won 15 of the last 16 games in Manhattan. The last time the Cyclones defeated Kansas in Manhattan was 2004.

POWESHIEK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Poweshiek County Sheriff Office confirmed the remains found north of Montezuma belong to Xavior Harrelson. On May 27, 10-year-old Xavior Harrelson was reported missing by a family friend. He was last seen riding a bike in Montezuma, where he lived with his mother. Authorities located his remains on Sept. 30, about 3 miles north of Montezuma. The cause of death has not been released at this time. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police in Des Moines have arrested a woman accused of randomly firing several shots from a gun that wasn’t hers out of a car window on Friday. The shooting happened around 2 a.m. Friday, after 23-year old Sophia Garcia left a downtown Des Moines bar with a man she met that night. The man told police he showed her a handgun he keeps in his car and that he was driving when Garcia unexpectedly grabbed the gun and began firing out her window. RIVERDALE, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s Teacher of the Year will be represented by a long-time Pleasant Valley High School social studies teacher. 19-year teacher Sara Russell was named Iowa Department of Education’s 2022 Teacher of the Year, as announced by Governor Kim Reynolds during a surprise ceremony at Pleasant Valley High School in Riverdale on Friday. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – It’s a huge weekend in Iowa City, as number 2 Iowa hosts Purdue on Homecoming. This game comes following the Hawkeyes huge win against Penn State, which vaulted Iowa to its highest ranking since 1985, back when they reached number 1 in the country.

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Iowa state Trooper Ted Benda was assisting the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office when he was involved in a single vehicle crash on Highway 51 approximately 6 miles north of Postville. He was airlifted to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he remains in critical condition. The accident is under investigation. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – One teacher in the Des Moines Public School District has been fired for refusing to wear a mask. The district did not identify the teacher or where they worked. The mask mandate started last month. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police say a teen admitted to stabbing and killing his parents at their home early Thursday morning. 17-year-old Ethan Alexander Orton stabbed his parents, Misty Scott-Slade and Casey Orton at about 2:10 a.m. When police arrived, they found Ethan sitting outside the home, covered in blood. He admitted to killing his parents by stabbing them and using an axe to kill his mother when she appeared to have survived the initial stabbing. The teen said he did it to “take charge of his life.” He has been arrested and faces two counts of first-degree murder. OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – The Ottumwa Police Department said an 81-year-old woman reported missing Tuesday night has been found dead. 81-year-old Connie Turner didn’t come home after going on a walk. She was found near the edge of a lagoon in a densely wooded area. Turner suffered from dementia, and police don’t suspect foul play. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A retired admiral for the U.S. Navy and Sioux City resident has announced his intention to run as a Democrat to unseat Sen. Chuck Grassley. Mike Franken says leadership has been replaced with blatant party politics, and that Republican politicians have moved too far to the right. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – With three more home football games to go and Kinnick Stadium facing severe staffing shortages, the University of Iowa has sent out a call for “game day volunteers” willing to work at stadium gates, in sections for disabled spectators and in premium club areas beginning Saturday, when Iowa takes on Purdue. They’re short about 200 workers.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Police are investigating after a teen admitted to killing his parents at a home in Cedar Rapids on Thursday morning. When police arrived on scene, they found a 17-year-old male sitting outside the home, covered in blood. The teen told police he had killed his parents. Officers found two people dead in the home. COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (IRN) – A 33-year-old man faces multiple charges after Council Bluffs police said he rear-ended a car and stole it while a woman was inside. Zachary White allegedly hit the car on Wednesday. When the victim got out to check on the damage, White jumped into the victim’s car and drove away. The victim’s wife was in the passenger seat at the time. She was seriously injured when she fell out of the vehicle. White then drove toward Omaha, causing several more crashes along the way. Authorities were able to stop him, and he was taken to an Omaha hospital where he faces multiple charges. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A police officer in eastern Iowa shot a wanted suspect Wednesday. Davenport police were called to the scene of a wanted subject with a weapon. Police pursued the individual on foot and attempted to take the subject into custody. The subject did not comply, and an officer discharged a firearm. Police were able to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was taken to the hospital, and the officer is on leave. MIDWEST, U.S.A. (IRN) – United Auto Workers chapters across the Midwest are now on strike after contract negotiations failed. That includes John Deere plants in Waterloo, Ottumwa, Ankeny, and nearby Moline, Illinois. It’s the first strike in 35 years at John Deere. ​​EPWORTH, IA (IRN) – Western Dubuque School District officials in Epworth announced yesterday that all staff and students would be required to wear masks because eight percent of the high school student body is out due to COVID-19. The district says the mask policy will stay in place until COVID-19 infections are lower than three percent of the total school population. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Hawkeye Athletic Department has issued a warning about fraudulent tickets for Hawkeye football games. Fans packed Kinnick during the Hawks win against Penn State last week. Some tickets were being sold for as much as $2,000 online. University officials say 50 fraudulent tickets were presented to them last week.
