DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting on the city’s south side that injured a 14-year-old boy. The teen was shot in the face, but is expected to survive. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Police are investigating an early morning shots fired incident. Authorities responded to the call a little after 1:30 AM on September 4, at Rewind Bar. Police didn’t find any suspects at the scene, but found shell casings about a block away. Two vehicles were struck as well as a residence. Witnesses say two groups of people were arguing outside the bar before shooting at each other. IOWA CITY, (IRN) – No. 18 Iowa’s defense silenced No. 17 Indiana, 34-6. Riley Moss returned two first-half interceptions for touchdowns and No. 18 Iowa defeated No. 17 Indiana 34-6 on Saturday. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State defeated Northern Iowa 16-10 in the 2021 season opener Saturday afternoon.

TIFFIN, IA (IRN) – A 65-year-old Coralville man is dead after his car struck a tree in Tiffin Friday. He failed to stop at a stop sign, continued through the intersection and then crashed into a tree. His 64-year-old passenger was taken to a local hospital. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A petition with more than 2,000 signatures is circulating in support of a Dowling Catholic High School teacher forced to take down an LGBTQ Pride flag in his classroom. Dowling Catholic High School forced the teacher to take the flag down. The school said its standard policy says “political symbols” are not allowed to be displayed. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A group of parents of disabled students filed a lawsuit Friday seeking to strike down Iowa’s law banning schools from requiring masks, arguing it endangers their health and denies equal access to education. LeCLAIRE, IA (IRN) – Officials for LeClaire in eastern Iowa say the city was scammed out of more than $220,000 by thieves posing as vendors the city has worked with. City funds were sent to three fraudulent accounts that had been disguised to resemble those of legitimate city vendors.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Nebraska man has died in an Iowa hospital because the 57-year-old needed care beyond what the Nemaha County Hospital in Nebraska could provide. The hospital reached out to 23 other hospitals in Nebraska, but all the beds were full. After several hours, they found a hospital in Des Moines who could take him. He was flown to Des Moines, but died 18 hours later. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Protests continued for a third night in Iowa City Thursday, as police investigate allegations of a sexual assault at the University of Iowa’s Phi Gamma Delta chapter. Student protesters gathered outside The Pentacrest Thursday evening and later made their way to the FIJI house, which was vandalized during protests on Tuesday. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Doug Jensen, a Des Moines man charged in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol is back in jail. He was released in July after he promised he would abide by the rules the court set if a judge would allow him to go home until his trial. One condition of his release was that he not use the internet. After being caught on the internet by his probation officer, Jensen admitted he spent two days streaming a Cyber Symposium held by pillow magnate and leading Stop the Steal advocate Mike Lindell. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan from Ohio drew cheers from a group of Dallas County Republicans Thursday when he praised former President Donald Trump. Jordan said he believes Trump will run for president in 2024, and suggested that Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds should be part of the ticket. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Mask mandates remain illegal for Iowa schools, but the state’s largest school district is still heavily promoting mask use on campus. Des Moines Public Schools launched its “Wearing is Caring” campaign as the 2021-2022 school year started.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have arrested a teenager in connection with Monday night’s triple shooting. Police have charged 17-year-old Danil James Deng with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and one charge of carrying weapons. Investigators said the teen killed 40-year-old Frederick McCuller in what they are calling a “targeted ambush.” OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – A body was found in the water near Beach Ottumwa. There were no signs of foul play. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Sixty Iowa Republican legislators are asking the Iowa Supreme Court to overturn a 2018 ruling that declared abortion a fundamental right under the state Constitution. This comes after Texas has effectively banned most abortions in the state. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Hundreds of employees with Wright Tree Service, a company headquartered in West Des Moines, are helping out with the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. Ida made landfall in Louisiana on Sunday. Wright Tree Service received a call the Thursday before landfall, asking for crews to head out if possible, which isn’t an uncommon request the company receives during hurricanes. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Saturday’s home football game will be the first time Hawkeye fans will be able to purchase beer and wine products inside the stadium. The University of Iowa is the 8th Big Ten school to allow the sales of alcohol inside athletic venues. Budweiser and Busch products will be sold, and the university will also feature a few local vendors: Backpocket, Singlespeed, and Big Grove.

MARTELLE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released new information on a structure fire and fatal police shooting that happened Tuesday night. DPS officials said the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was called to a structure fire near Martelle. Arriving officers found a large structure fire and a person armed with a knife. Initial reports indicate the armed person did not comply with orders to drop the knife. The subject received multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting Tuesday after a woman was dropped off at a metro hospital with a gunshot wound. Police arrested the man who dropped her off. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – Fire crews battled a massive fire at a large apartment building in Ankeny Tuesday. No one was injured, but the building looks to be a total loss. It had no sprinkler system. CANTRIL, IA (IRN) – A southeast Iowa company will pay a $75,000 penalty for installing “defeat devices” in vehicles that disable emission controls designed to reduce harmful air pollution. The EPA said Midwest Truck Products, a diesel repair shop in Cantril, tampered with vehicle engines or installed or sold devices to disable emissions controls for hundreds of customers.
