GOLDFIELD – A Huxley woman died in a crash involving a gator near the Boone River over the weekend. The Iowa State Patrol reports 20-year-old McKenna Mae Woodbeck was the passenger on the UTV operated by 21-year-old Levi Edward Rasmussen. He misjudged how close they were to the Boone River, and entered the water from a “significant” drop from the bank. Woodbeck was trapped underneath the gator. Rasmussen was injured. GREENE COUNTY – One person is dead following an officer involved shooting in Greene County. WHO-13 reports the Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisting the Boone Police Department with a pursuit on Saturday evening. The alleged suspect died following a shooting. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the review of the incident. AMES – For the second year in a row, Iowa State Cyclone kicker Kyle Konrardy found the game winning points late in the 4th quarter to give the home team a win in the Cy-Hawk Series over the Hawkeyes. Konrardy kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1:52 remaining to lift No. 16 Iowa State to a 16-13 victory over Iowa. It’s the first time since 2011 that the Cyclones have won the rivalry game in the confines of Jack Trice Stadium — they’ve now won three of the last four matchups after six wins in a row for the Hawks.

WINNESHIEK COUNTY – A Georgia man has been found guilty for the killing of an Iowa teen that has been missing for eight years. WHO-13 reports 15-year-old Jade Marie Colvin arrived at a Winneshiek County farm in 2017. She has not been found. Police arrested James David Bachmuski and charged him with second-degree murder. A jury found him guilty of that charge. MARSHALLTOWN – A Lennox plant in Marshalltown will be laying off additional workers. The Des Moines Register reports 49 employees will be let go on September 28th. The company announced in July that 62 workers were being let go on August 1st. An additional update on the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification site showed an amendment that that layoff was down to 22 workers. DES MOINES – The Powerball jackpot is up to $1.8 billion after no matches for the main prize on Wednesday. KCCI-TV reports Iowans won just over 68,000 prizes totaling $343,000. A ticket purchased in Indianola had a $50,000 prize — one number away from the jackpot, according to the Iowa Lottery.

MARSHALLTOWN – The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is investigating a cluster of Legionnaires’ disease cases among individuals living in north central Marshalltown. Since the beginning of the investigation, 21 individuals have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease and an older adult with underlying health conditions has died. Iowa HHS shares our condolences to the family and friends of this individual. Legionnaires’ disease is caused by Legionella bacteria and thrives in warm water environments and is typically spread through the inhalation of aerosolized water droplets, such as mist from cooling towers, hot tubs, and decorative fountains. DAVENPORT – A Clinton man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for receipt of child pornography and attempted production of child pornography. According to public court documents , the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received CyberTips that an account, later determined to be associated with 37-year-old Eric Jensen Salter, received files containing child sexual abuse material. Law enforcement seized electronic devices during a search of Salter’s Clinton residence. The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office further received records from Salter’s email account that revealed an email exchange with a sixteen-year-old female between May and October 2018. AMES – This Saturday is the Cy-Hawk showdown on the gridiron between the Iowa Hawkeyes and #16 ranked Iowa State Cyclones. Jack Trice Stadium will be packed as the two teams clash for the 72nd time. ISU has won two of the last three matchups, but Iowa is the last school that has won at its home field, and owns the all-time series 47-24. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

FORT DODGE – An arrest has been made in connection to a Tuesday morning shooting in Fort Dodge. WHO-13 reports 38-year-old Rolman H. Recinos has been charged with first degree murder. The department responded to shots fired early Tuesday morning. Recinos also faces a count of trafficking stolen weapons.BREMER COUNTY – The motorcyclist involved in a fatal crash in northeastern Iowa has been identified. KCRG-TV reports 44-year-old Robert Detmering III of Osage was traveling on Highway 218 and crossed the median, striking a jeep in the other lane. Determing died at the scene, according to the Iowa State Patrol.DES MOINES – A longtime member of the Polk County Board of Supervisors announced her retirement. The Des Moines Register reports Angela Connolly will not run for re-election following 25 years serving on the state’s largest county board. Connolly represents the fifth district of Polk County, which largely covers the northern and eastern portions of Des Moines. SIOUX CITY – One game in, an Iowa High School football team has seen its season end. KCCI-TV reports Siouxland Christian in eight-player football has cancelled the remainder of its varsity games over safety concerns. The school opened last week against Coon Rapids-Bayard in a 60-0 loss and forfeited the game at halftime.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Senator Joni Ernst officially announced her decision not to run for a third term in the U.S. Senate. The Des Moines Register reports Ernst had considered a run, but ultimately decided against it, opening the seat to a contested primary for both parties. Current U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson announced her intention to run for the soon-to-be vacant seat. This opens a primary challenge for the U.S. House second district, which Hinson has held since 2020. OSKALOOSA – The former Keokuk County Sheriff’s Office deputy accused child endangerment has been found guilty on all counts. KCCI-TV reports David Heady was charged 13 times with child endangerment, as he was the adult passenger on a hayrack ride that crashed in October 2023. Both Heady and Daniel Brubaker were both charged in the incident, as investigators testified both were intoxicated prior to the crash. Several children were injured and broke bones in the incident. Heady will be sentenced on October 17th at the Keokuk County Courthouse. WINTERSET – Independent Michele Brant was sworn as the Madison County Auditor following a victory in a special election last week. WHO-13 reports Brant took her oath Tuesday night at a special session of the Board of Supervisors. She takes control of an office that had multiple people in the role this year due to the resignation of Teri Kaczinski. She was under investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation for potential misconduct in office, but no charges were filed. This led to the appointment of Matthew Schwartz, which was challenged by citizens and turned into a special election.
