COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KWWL)– An Iowa man has been convicted of the murdering death of his roommate and co-worker. Prosecutors say Dubol Koat killed William Dut. Investigators found Dut’s body wrapped in a sheet near the city’s downtown October 28th. It’s unclear what Koat’s exact motive was for murdering Dut. MADISON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Earlham resident is dead from a motorcycle crash in Madison County. At approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, Kim Ferry, 68, was driving south of Winterset when a pickup truck turned out in front of him causing Ferry to crash. The pickup truck driver wasn’t hurt. WINDSOR HEIGHTS, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a man who allegedly broke into a home in Windsor Heights and fired a gun. WHO-TV reports Des Moines resident Matthew Anderson, 31, is charged with first-degree burglary, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, and reckless use of a firearm. Police say no one was injured during the incident and it wasn’t a random act. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Multiple people ice fishing had to be rescued after falling through ice in Cedar Falls Sunday. KGAN-TV reports four people had to be rescued shortly after noon, and two had to be rescued later that afternoon. Both incidents were at Big Woods Lake. Everyone will be OK. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Every 11 seconds an older adult is treated in the emergency room for a fall, and every 19 minutes, an older person dies from falling. KCRG-TV reports a University of Iowa professor wants to see what the chances of falling are for older people who smoke medical marijuana. The active ingredient, THC, can hurt a person’s cognitive skills which include memory, concentration and focus, and may increase the risk of falling. The university is looking for people between the ages of 50 and 80 to take part in the study.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A man charged with killing two Waterloo women February 10th has arrived at the Black Hawk County Jail, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office. Matthew Buford III is being held on $1 million bond. On Wednesday Buford III was taken into custody by Peoria, Illinois Police. GUTHRIE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Guthrie County sheriff is asking county residents to vote in favor of a new jail. Sheriff Marty Arganbright said his jail is overcrowded, due in part to the county’s serious meth problem. Arganbright said not much has changed since the jail was built in 1963. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A fire at an apartment building in Iowa City on Friday night caused significant damage to the structure, according to KCRG-TV. No one was injured. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Wells Fargo was hit with a $3 billion fine Friday by federal authorities outraged by the millions of fake accounts created at the troubled bank over many years. CNN reports the settlement with the Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission, years in the making, resolves Wells Fargo’s criminal and civil liabilities for the fake-accounts scandal that erupted nearly four years ago. Wells Fargo Headquarters are in West Des Moines.

CLAYTON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One man is dead after a shooting in Clayton County Thursday afternoon. KCRG-TV reports deputies from the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a gunshot victim. They determined that Lawerence E. Tuner, 51, of Guttenberg died in the home after being shot. An investigation continues into circumstances around the death. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A suspect in a Des Moines triple homicide appeared in court Friday. KCCI-TV reports Emmanuel Totaye Jr. is one of two men charged with murder in the case of the three Des Moines teenagers found dead in a closet. The victims were executed, and their bodies piled on top of each other in the closet. ADAIR COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Two minors died in a crash in Adair County, according to the Iowa State Patrol. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Friday, a Dodge Durango and Ford Escort collided head-on. The two juveniles, 15-years-old and 16-years-old, in the Ford Escort were declared dead at the scene. An adult was driving the Dodge Durango with a 3-year-old in the vehicle. The 26-year-old adult was taken by a private vehicle to a local hospital while the 3-year-old was flown by air ambulance with serious injuries. DECORAH, IA (IRN) – Decorah has delivered a sign spring isn’t too far away. One of the Decorah eagles, DNF, laid her first egg of the 2020 season at 3:36 p.m. on Friday. The new egg, DN11, will be the first egg to hatch this year. It typically takes about 35 days before the egg will hatch. IOWA (IRN) – Weather this weekend will be the best we have had for months. Highs will be well into the 40s in the northern part of the state with the potential for lower 50s over southern Iowa where there’s no snowpack. This is about 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal averages.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapid Police are investigating a stabbing this morning, according to KGAN-TV. Officers located a 27-year-old man at a home who was suffering from serious stab wounds to his legs. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two Des Moines residents were killed and one was injured in a crash yesterday on the city’s south side. KCCI-TV reports the driver of one vehicle is facing two counts of vehicular homicide by reckless driving. CHARITON, IA (IRN) – A woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle while carrying a child across the street in Chariton yesterday. WHO-TV reports 62-year-old Bette Lawson and a child were crossing the street when the crash happened. Lawson was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries. The child is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. CEDAR COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Cedar County Sheriff’s Deputies took the rare step of accusing their County Attorney, Jeffrey Renander, of being too soft on sex crimes. KCRG-TV reports all 13 deputies signed the letter. WEBSTER CITY, IA (IRN) – A former Webster City Chamber of Commerce administrative assistant has been accused of stealing more than $149,000 from the organization. The Iowa Department of Public Safety reports 40-year-old Leah Mulholland is charged with ongoing criminal conduct, theft, forgery and unauthorized use of a credit card. A state audit last year discovered improper payments for hotels, restaurants, and a hair salon.

SIGOURNEY, IA (IRN) – A deer sent flying when it was hit by a car in southeast Iowa crashed through the window of a second car, killing its driver. The accident occurred a little after 7 p.m. Wednesday on Iowa Highway 92, just west of Sigourney. The Iowa State Patrol says the deer went onto the roadway from the north ditch and was struck by a westbound car. The deer was knocked into the air and then went through the windshield of an eastbound car. The driver who died was 45-year-old Donald Burdick, who lived in North English. CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A fight that occurred in the halls of a Cedar Rapids high school on Friday has led to one juvenile being charged. KCRG-TV reports the fight involved 10-20 juveniles, some of which were students from Cedar Rapids Washington, from other schools, and juveniles who are not attending school. Police say that Washington students may have arranged the altercation, and allowed the outsider juveniles into the building. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Republican lawmakers hope they can get a 72-hour waiting period for abortions approved by the Iowa legislature, even though the state’s high court struck down a similar law three years ago. Supporters say it’s a new Supreme Court. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Owners of a well-known business at the Iowa State Fair are facing charges of sales tax evasion and fraudulent practices. The two-story western saloon Diamond Jack’s is a prominent part of the Iowa State Fairgrounds, and the owners are pleading not guilty. JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – Two Iowa Army National Guard units are being deployed to Africa as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. About 90 soldiers from Troop C, 1st Squadron of the 113th Cavalry Regiment in Le Mars are training with 40 from the squadron’s Troop A, which is based at Camp Dodge in Johnston. Send-off ceremonies are scheduled for June, and then the soldiers will head to Fort Bliss in west Texas for six to eight weeks of training.
