OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – The Wapello County Attorney said the officer involved shooting in Ottumwa was justified and no charges will be filed against the officers involved. A 911 call stated that someone had been shot in Ottumwa. Police learned three males in dark clothing, wearing masks, and armed with rifles shot the male victim. In capturing the men, one of them was shot. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Ohio man has been arrested after he stole credit cards and used them at a Des Moines Target. KCCI-TV reports Abdimalik Farah, 21, of Columbus, Ohio, and four other men stole credit cards from eight people in locker rooms of three metro-area Planet Fitness locations and then bought nearly $12,000 worth of merchandise–mostly gift cards–at the Merle Hay Target. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A former University of Iowa football player is facing multiple charges stemming from an incident in downtown Iowa City in April. KGAN-TV reports 31-year-old Lance Tillison was seen yelling at and threatening someone outside of a bar on April 27. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct. While searching him, police found 60 tabs of LSD packaged in separate baggies and other drugs. FOREST CITY, IA (IRN) – A Minnesota woman who sent 696 text messages to a Forest City man in April violated a no-contact order. KIMT-TV reports 34-year-old Katie Christian of Emmons, Minnesota, is charged with stalking and other crimes. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Politicians with presidential ambitions often find their way to the Iowa State Fair to mingle with potential supporters. That wasn’t the case Friday with former U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, a Republican from Ohio. WHO-TV reports Boehner, who retired in 2015, stopped by the fair to visit longtime friend, former Iowa Congressman Tom Latham.

DRAKESVILLE, IA (IRN) – The southeast Iowa driver accused of striking and killing an Amish boy with a pickup truck near Drakesville in June is now facing additional charges. KTVO-TV reports Terry Petary, 41, of Drakesville is now charged with Causing Serious Injury by Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Leaving the Scene of an Accident That Causes Death and Failure to Report an Accident. He was already charged with Vehicular Homicide. Petary killed nine-year-old Merlin Beechy when he struck the boy and his 12-year-old brother, Nathan. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A woman is in critical condition following a shooting early this morning in Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports the woman arrived at Mercy Medical Center in a private vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A 19-year-old woman was rescued from a crash off of the side of a Cedar Rapids bridge. KWWL-TV reports Jonisa Williams was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Cruze when she lost control and went over the side of the bridge. Rescue crews pulled her to safety with the use of a basket and a rope. She’s in the hospital with serious injuries. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A woman was arrested early Thursday morning after police say she was drunk when she intentionally rammed her SUV into several vehicles and tried to run people over outside an east side Des Moines bar. Police were called to the 14th Street Tavern around 1:00 a.m. The caller said a woman was in the parking lot, ramming her blue Ford Expedition into other cars and trying to run people over. Officers took 31-year-old Teri Watson into custody. CARTER LAKE, IA (IRN) – An attempted murder charge against a Carter Lake woman has been dismissed at the request of her alleged victim. The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports that the charge against 51-year-old Tammy Oberg was dropped Wednesday. Oberg had been charged in May after being accused of trying to run over another woman on a bicycle. She told officers she did it because she believed the victim was riding a stolen bike. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Michael Avenatti, the lawyer for adult film star Stormy Daniels whom President Trump allegedly had an affair with and paid hush money to, says he’s considering running for president. KCCI-TV reports the 47-year-old California native was at the Iowa State Fair yesterday to test the waters. Avenatti says Democrats need a fighter to take down President Trump in 2020, and he thinks he might be their man.

ACKLEY, IA (IRN) – A trial has been scheduled for a woman accused of helping her boyfriend torture his 8-year-old son by locking him in a basement enclosure, withholding food and making him endure dog bites. KWWL-TV reports 39-year-old Traci Tyler has entered a written plea of not guilty to a kidnapping charge. Her trial is set to begin Sept. 11. The boy’s father, 30-year-old Alex Shadlow, is scheduled to enter a plea Monday. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after he was dragged under an SUV for 250 feet after a collision Wednesday. The Des Moines Register reports both vehicles were trying to maneuver their way past a Des Moines Water Works vehicle that was watering flowers in the median on Fleur Drive. The 44-year old motorcyclist was struck from behind and eventually pulled underneath the SUV driven by a 70-year-old woman. The motorcyclist wasn’t wearing a helmet. He’s expected to survive. JOHNSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after a semi and two motorcycles collided in Johnson County last night. The two motorcycles were traveling together on I-80 when they started to slow down for stopped traffic ahead for a previous accident. The semi was traveling behind the motorcycles and didn’t stop in time, hitting both. BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – Tuesday afternoon’s commute did not go well in Bettendorf according to KWQC-TV. On a short span of I-74 police responded to seven accidents in the two-hour period from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Police say the accidents were attributed to excessive speeds, following too closely, and failure to adjust to wet roadways. Many were chain-reaction incidents. WARREN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Indianola couple is recovering after an early morning fire last week destroyed their home. WHO-TV reports Kevin and Missy Barr’s lives may have been saved by a neighbor. Gary Webster was on his way to the gym when he saw flames shooting from the roof of the home. He stopped, and pounded on the door to wake up the Barrs who were sleeping. The Barrs say Webster is a hero who saved their lives.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State University has paid $125,000 to settle two lawsuits brought by a former university administrator who accused the school of blocking her efforts to investigate sexual assault reports. WHO-TV reports the State Appeal Board approved the settlement with Robinette Kelley on Monday. Kelley was the university’s equal opportunity and Title IX director who was fired in October 2015. She now works for North Carolina State University. SALIX, IA (IRN) – A body was found Tuesday in a lake near the northwest Iowa town of Salix. KCAU-TV reports authorities believe it is that of a missing kayaker. The body is that of an older male. Police were searching the area because someone had found an unattended kayak in the lake. AUDUBON, IA (IRN) – Sen. Chuck Grassley told Audubon residents Tuesday that he and other Iowa leaders have President Donald Trump’s ear on trade, though he said it remains to be seen whether they can affect policy outcomes. The Des Moines Register reports Grassley said, ““If (Trump’s) successful, then it’s better for all of us…but if he’s not successful, it could be a catastrophe. And if you’re getting, like at New Hartford, $3.25 for your corn, it’s a catastrophe already, considering you got $3.75 before the tariffs went on.” WARREN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Warren County voters have said “yes” to a $30 million plan to build a new courthouse and jail. According to unofficial election results from the Warren County Auditor’s Office, 69.6 percent of voters voted yes. The current courthouse will be bulldozed, with a new one built in its place on the town square. The building closed in February due to code violations. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines City Council is moving forward with plans for an underpass between Gray’s Lake and Water Works Park. The city council approved design plans Monday night. Construction of the walkway is expected to cost $3.5 million.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Transportation Security Administration at the Des Moines International Airport discovered a loaded firearm Monday morning, the 10th found this year. KCCI-TV reports TSA security found a Glock 43 loaded with six rounds during an X-ray screening of a passenger’s carry-on bag. Des Moines police took the weapon and cited the passenger with a local charge. The passenger booked a later flight. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The U.S. General Services Administration confirmed Tuesday that its preferred site for a new federal courthouse in Des Moines is the site of the former Riverfront YMCA. The land currently belongs to Hubbell Realty, who planned to build a $75 million condo at the same site. LEE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A 28-year-old man has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death in the case of a body found in Lee County early Sunday. The Des Moines Register reports Damian Hamann of Morning Sun turned himself in after the body of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Sadie Alvarado, was found in a ditch. Hamann told police Alvarado jumped out of his car while they were arguing. MAHASKA COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Oskaloosa man drowned Sunday after a boat capsized on the Des Moines River northwest of Eddyville. WHO-TV reports emergency crews were called to the location on a report that a boat that had overturned, and several people were in the water. Forty-six-year-old Martin Almond was found unconscious and later pronounced dead. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City Police are investigating a shooting involving two vehicles. KCRG-TV reports Monday night people in the vehicles shot multiple times at each other. Officers found one of the vehicles involved with a bullet hole through a window. Police haven’t said if there were any arrests or if anyone was injured. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – The Sioux City council approved a $7.5 million settlement for a man critically injured in an accident with a city bus two years ago. Chad Plante was critically injured when a city transit bus ran a stoplight. Plante’s wife Rosanne said that although she and her husband have to live with the consequences for the rest of their lives, she’s pleased to see the issue come to a rest.
