BENTON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Mount Auburn couple was killed in a crash near Vinton yesterday. KGAN-TV reports 73-year-olds Terry and Evelyn Bradshaw lost their lives in the crash. Terry was driving their SUV when it crossed the center line hitting a pickup head-on. The 41-year-old female driver of the pickup suffered non-life threatening injures. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad is acting as an adviser to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on agricultural issues. The Des Moines Register reports Branstad was asked to advise Trump in an unofficial role on agricultural and rural issues. Branstad’s son, Eric Branstad, is the director of Trump’s campaign in Iowa. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An animal rights advocate tried to get Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s attention in Des Moines yesterday. KCCI-TV reports Secret Service agents were quick to act after Chicago resident Kelsey Atkinson tried rushing the stage during the rally. Atkinson is with the international animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere. She was charged with disorderly conduct. MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – A police pursuit of a man in a stolen vehicle ended with a collision involving four law enforcement vehicles Wednesday. WHO-TV reports law enforcement from several agencies engaged in the pursuit of the stolen vehicle out of Marshalltown. During the chase, 29-year-old Kirk Williams slammed on his brakes intentionally, causing a collision and damage to four law enforcement vehicles. He faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A house fire in Burlington caused an estimated $85,000 in damages to the home Wednesday, according to WQAD-TV. Six people escaped without injuries, but one dog died in the fire and several cats are missing. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa State Fair begins today. KCRG-TV reports the fair broke attendance records last year, when 1.1 million people attended. There will be plenty to see and do, with hundreds of performances, livestock shows, Iowa’s biggest art exhibition, the midway, more than 75 kinds of food on a stick and, of course, the butter cow.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 20-year-old woman has been given 15 years in prison for shooting a teenager at a Des Moines restaurant. The Des Moines Register reports that Maryann Hannam was with three other people at an IHOP when the girl came in and began yelling at Hannam. One of the women Hannam was with threw a coffee pot at the girl. The girl then challenged Hannam to shoot her. Hannam pulled a handgun from her waistband and while holding down the teen in a booth, shot her. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – Two people have sued Sioux City over its ordinance banning pit bulls.The Sioux City Journal reports the lawsuit was filed Friday in U.S. District Court. The lawsuit allegest the ordinance is inconsistent and bans animals that are not harmful. RUDD, IA (IRN) – A Charles City man died as the result of a crash near the northern Iowa town of Rudd. 23-year-old Trent Alan Smith of Charles City ran into the back of a parked semitrailer that had stopped on the highway. The driver of the semitrailer was not hurt. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines mother faces multiple charges for leaving her toddler alone. KCCI-TV reports 30-year-old Hallie Amick was charged with child endangerment bodily injury and possession of narcotics. Police found the 2-year-old boy in the backyard alone wearing only a T-shirt and a diaper that was “full and sagging.” The child was sucking on a frozen chicken breast while a small dog was jumping on the boy trying to get the chicken. Police also found a marijuana pipe, blunts, and stems in the house, in plain sight. AMES, IA (IRN) – Ames police are searching for a suspect after a man was shot several times and sent to the hospital Tuesday. WHO-TV reports two men got into an argument that escalated into a shooting. They used a K-9 unit to track the man, but he remains at large. CHARLES CITY, IA (IRN) – A freight train car that derailed in Charles City rolled into and damaged a trackside tavern called DeRailed. KCRG-TV reports Police Chief Hugh Anderson says says a patrol officer called him to say a train car had derailed into DeRailed, adding that “it’s not every day you get to say that.” No one was injured.

GRANDVIEW, IA (IRN) – Authorities have released the name of a missing swimmer whose body was recovered from the Mississippi River in southeast Iowa. KCRG-TV reports the man is 40-year-old Jason Fowler of Muscatine. His body was found Sunday in the Mississippi’s main channel. He was swimming with a small group of people when he ventured too far from shore and disappeared underwater. KEOKUK, IA (IRN) – A body has been found in a stolen vehicle pulled from the Des Moines River near Keokuk in Lee County. KCCI-TV reports officials began searching for the vehicle after a missing man had been seen in the area Saturday morning. They found tire tracks leading into the river and then the SUV in about 15 feet of water. The body was inside. MT PLEASANT, IA (IRN) – Three motorcycles were involved in a fatal wreck Sunday. KCII-radio reports the accident was north of Mt. Pleasant. The three motorcycles were operated by 63-year-old Kenneth Koch of Wayland, 41-year-old Lori Leffler of Washington and 45-year-old Dwayne Leffler of Washington. The Yamaha motorcycle operated by Koch ran into the back of the other two motorcycles and then ran off the roadway. Koch died of his injuries. HARDIN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A fatal crash was reported on Highway 20 in Hardin County Monday morning. The Iowa State Patrol reports a semi driven by Sosa Alberto of Melrose Park, Illinois, was traveling westbound when he lost control and tipped onto the passenger side, coming to rest partially in the roadway. Another semi driven by 34-year-old Lucas Lodermeier of Zearing, hit the first semi. Lodermeier was killed. His seatbelt was severed in the crash. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A driver pled guilty Monday in a fatal hit-and-run in April. KCCI-TV reports 21-year-old Ray Alexander Sangster pled guilty to leaving the scene of a crash causing death. 37-year-old Constantino Ayala passed away from injuries suffered in the crash. Ayala was hit while crossing a street on foot. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowans love Pokemon go. The Des Moines Register reports research shows that Iowa is the ninth most-engrossed state in the U.S. when it comes to hunting Pokemon. Maybe hunting Pokemon is good for us. Iowa is the 16th most obese state and the 26th least active. MINOCQUA, WI (IRN) – An Iowa City woman celebrated her 80th birthday this week but not like most people would imagine, according to KCRG-TV. Linda Watkins rang in her big day by zip-lining with family members in northern Wisconsin on Sunday. She invited all of her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids to meet her in Minocqua (min-OCK-wah), where her son lives. She says the experience was amazing but seeing her family was the icing on the cake.

MOUNT PLEASANT, IA (IRN) – A Mount Pleasant man has been charged for assaulting a female and leaving her in the road. KCRG-TV reports 35-year-old Robert Sinn has been charged with second-degree sexual abuse and possession of stolen property. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A former restaurant employee is accused of robbing the restaurant’s assistant manager in Des Moines. The Des Moines Register reports that 22-year-old Shaun Haltiner faces a robbery charge. Police say Haltiner was wearing a mask when he poked a handgun in the face of the assistant manager of a KFC on Saturday morning. He took about $900. NEVADA, IA (IRN) – A fire that started last night near Nevada is still burning, according to KCCI-TV.The fire broke out at Dupont’s cellulosic facility which collects bales of corn cobs, leaves, and stalks to be used to make ethanol. A lightning strike likely set the stover site on fire, and more than 10,000 bales are believed to have burned. GRANDVIEW, IA (IRN) – Rescue workers are still searching for a man who went swimming in the Mississippi River, but he’s now presumed dead. The Hawk Eye in Burlington reports the unidentified man went missing north of Port Louisa Friday night. The man was swimming with a small group of people around 6 p.m. when he ventured too far from shore and disappeared underwater. He was not wearing a life jacket. OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – A Friday afternoon crash in Ottumwa between a minivan and a pickup truck proved fatal, according to KTVO-TV. Dead is 92-year-old John Hunt of Ottumwa. Investigators say Hunt was a passenger in a minivan driven by 56-year-old Teresa Vanderpol, who failed to yield and turned into the path of an oncoming pickup drove by a 16-year old male. The impact forced the minivan into a traffic signal pole. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Hundreds of central Iowans took part in a march Sunday evening aimed at raising awareness about mental health. KCCI-TV reports the crowd gathered at Cowles Commons and walked toward the state Capitol building in an attempt to put pressure on Iowa legislators to make mental health a priority. Under Governor Branstad, Iowa has dropped to 49th in the nation for its quality of mental health services. AMES, IA (IRN) – Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames hoped to earn a place in the Guinness Book of World Records on Sunday but fell just short, according to WHO-TV. The hospital celebrated its 100th anniversary and organizers tried to set a record by gathering the most people in one place who were born at the same hospital. They needed 1,221 there, but fell 24 people short.

BUCHANAN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A child is dead after an accident involving a semi on a property in Buchanan County, according to KCRG-TV. The Sheriff’s office isn’t providing any details, and no names are being released pending the investigation and notification of family. JASPER COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Two adults and a child were injured Saturday when they were attacked by several dogs that were running loose in western Jasper County. KCCI-TV reports a woman was walking her dogs when several dogs attacked hers. The woman and a man who tried to help her suffered serious dog bites. A boy who also tried to help was injured, but not bitten. Two dogs died of injuries from the other dogs, and one was injured. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Police and a bomb squad were called to a home in Waterloo after a man found a 40 mm artillery round in the wall of his garage. KWWL-TV reports the man says he was working on his garage when he found the shell. No one was injured. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A West Des Moines chiropractor will be heading to Rio to be a chiropractor for the U.S.A. Olympic wrestling team. Kevin Miller owns E.P. True Chiropractic, and will be one of six chiropractors working for the team in Rio. Miller says he stumbled upon chiropractic care when he was injured as an All-American wrestler in college. He says, “A neck injury almost ended my career but chiropractic is what helped me and saved my career.”
