IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa police announced Monday that the body recovered from the Iowa River on Saturday is that of 20-year-old Cristian Martinez. Martinez was reported missing on April 15. He was last seen around 1:00 a.m. outside an Iowa City bar. His body was found in the Iowa River. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Student organizers, protesters and Democratic lawmakers marched around the Capitol rotunda Monday, chanting: “No more silence, end gun violence,” and “Protect kids, not guns.” Speakers urged Republican lawmakers to reject House File 654, a bill that would allow Iowans to keep guns in their locked cars in the parking lots of schools, city and county buildings, state universities and prisons. TRURO, IA (IRN) – Some people in the Interstate 35 Community School District are calling for their superintendent to be fired. Parents attended Monday night’s school board meeting to address the board with concerns over how Superintendent Sharon Dentlinger handled a threat of a shooting at the high school that occurred on April 3. EASTERN IOWA (IRN) – On Monday, Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for flooding along the Mississippi River. Currently, the river levels are threatening Iowa communities. The river is expected to reach major flood stage this week. The declaration is for all ten counties along the Mississippi River.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City police have discovered a body believed to be 20-year-old Cristian Martinez. Martinez was reported missing on April 15. He was last seen just after midnight outside an Iowa City bar. The body was found in the Iowa River. CLEAR LAKE, IA (IRN) – One woman is dead and two others are critically hurt after a crash in northern Iowa on Friday. Troopers say a vehicle crossed the center line near Clear Lake and hit two oncoming vehicles. The driver, 65-year-old Diane Schmidt of Garner, Iowa, died. The two other drivers were taken to the hospital in critical condition. EASTERN IOWA (IRN) – From Marquette and McGregor, all the way down to Davenport, preparations are in full swing for whatever the Mississippi River brings downstream. The heavy snow melt in Minnesota, coupled with persistent heavy rain events in recent days has swelled the flood forecast in some areas near records not seen in northeast Iowa in nearly 60 years. Current projections put the crest later this week above the level seen in 2001 and just below the all-time record in 1965. IOWA (IRN) – The northern lights made their latest appearance in Iowa Sunday night. They had a purple and greenish hue in the northern sky. November through to February offer the darkest skies and longer evenings for maximum sky-gazing. The strongest lights tend to appear between 9pm and 2am, though the best sightings often occur between 11pm and midnight.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – An Eldora woman died in a crash in Waterloo Wednesday night. Police say the driver, Kelly Good, 49, was ejected from a side window as the car rolled. First responders took her to the hospital, where she died. ​​DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – TSA officers stopped this year’s third handgun from being brought onto a plane at the Des Moines International Airport Thursday. Last year TSA officers stopped 15 firearms from making it onto an airplane. The firearm was loaded with seven rounds, none in the chamber, and the safety was engaged. The fine may be up to $15,000. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The construction company under investigation for allegations of using child labor at a Cedar Rapids job site has violated child labor laws in Indiana. TWG Construction was given a warning for employing a 16-year-old boy in 2018. Authorities are investigating the developer, based in Indianapolis, for using child labor on an apartment complex in Cedar Rapids on Friday. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Kum & Go, a widely recognized convenience store brand in Iowa, has been sold. And that means its 5,000 employees will have a new owner in the next few months. Utah-based Maverik has purchased the family-owned Kum & Go chain, which has 400 locations across 13 states. The price of the sale has not been announced.

BOONE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Several children were taken to the hospital after a bus crash Thursday morning in Boone County. A United Community School District bus went off a gravel road and tipped onto its side around 7:30 a.m.Fifteen children between the ages of 5 and 15 were on board. One child was hurt and taken by ambulance to a local hospital; 10 others were taken to the hospital as a precaution. NEWTON, IA (IRN) – A teenager from Illinois wanted on murder charges was arrested on Wednesday in Jasper County. Illinois officials received a tip this week that Napoleon Jackson, 16, was staying in Newton. On Wednesday, authorities stormed a home and arrested Jackson. He is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection to the April 14 slaying of Daniel Taylor, a 17-year-old high school senior, in Milan, Illinois. He is charged as an adult. SPENCER, IA (IRN) – Taco Bell will need to pay a dozen former Iowa employees thousands of dollars in back wages. A federal investigation found the manager of the Spencer restaurant illegally deducted more than $22,000 from 12 workers’ checks. EASTERN IOWA/WESTERN ILLINOIS – The Mississippi River is rising and threatening some homes and businesses in eastern Iowa and western Illinois. River levels cleared 18 and a half feet yesterday; that’s moderate flood stage. It’s predicted to be at a major flood stage next week.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids man charged in the stabbing death of Devonna Walker in Cedar Rapids pleaded not guilty on Thursday. Shane Teslik faces charges of Voluntary Manslaughter and Disorderly Conduct. On January 2nd, police responded to a report of a stabbing. A video shows several people shouting at each other before a scuffle ensues and Walker is stabbed. PLEASANT HILL, IA (IRN) – A 16-month investigation between local and federal law enforcement led to the arrest of a man in California in the death of an 18-month-old in Pleasant Hill. Jeremy White is charged with child endangerment causing death. He was arrested in Roseville, California, on April 7 and is being held without bond. The child’s head had been struck against a blunt object. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Senators passed the governor’s education bill, 34-16, for a second time this session. This follows disagreements with the House on how exactly the bill should look. GOP Senators introduced and passed an amendment which took out many of the changes House Republicans added. CRAWFORD COUNTY, IA (IRN) – There are widespread damage reports in Ricketts, Kiron, Schleswig, and Charter Oak in Crawford County after Wednesday’s severe storms. Crawford County EMA said people have reported golf ball to baseball-sized hail. No injuries have been reported. Many homes in the county have roof and window damage, as well as many vehicles. Damage reports are coming in from other areas as well. NEVADA (IRN) – A Mega Millions ticket worth a $1 million prize was sold at a central Iowa convenience store. The Iowa Lottery says the ticket sold at a Casey’s in Nevada matched the first five numbers in Tuesday’s drawing but not the Mega Ball.
