DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two people are dead and another injured after an early morning shooting in the Merle Hay neighborhood in Des Moines shortly before 3:00 this morning. First responders found two people, both with gunshot injuries, dead in a home. A third person, also with a gunshot injury, was located nearby at Riley Park. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Racist and vulgar graffiti was spray painted all over a Des Moines park over the weekend. Picnic tables, the playground, sidewalks, and the parking lot.at Woodlawn Park are covered with gay and racial slurs and words of antisemitism. OXFORD, IA (IRN) – There were travel troubles along Interstate 80 in eastern Iowa Sunday night after a tractor-trailer caught fire near the Oxford Exit. Oxford and Williamsburg crews arrived in minutes. Upon arrival, they found the trailer in flames. They managed to save the tractor. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Ross Wilburn, Chair of the Iowa Democrats, announced that he would not seek re-election Saturday. Iowa Democrats are coming off a rough midterm election in the state and losing their first-in-the-nation status for caucusing. IOWA – A one-two punch of weather systems this week will bring disruptions to travel, as well as significantly increase the chances for a white Christmas. The first storm system will likely arrive on Monday afternoon and give much Iowa a chance for a round of light snow. Blizzard conditions are likely Thursday.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A judge has sentenced Dimione Walker to life in prison. A jury found Walker guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting at Taboo Nightclub in April. Surveillance video from the nightclub shows him firing at Michael Valentine eight times and hitting him seven. Valentine later died. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The family of an Iowa State University student killed in a rowing accident last spring will two million dollars from the state in a wrongful death lawsuit. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – Eight people from Burlington are facing federal drug charges The announcement was made Friday by the FBI and the Burlington Police Department. The charges result from a joint federal and state investigation of a drug trafficking organization that operated out of Burlington. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A West Des Moines police officer was injured after he was involved in a crash on Interstate 35 northbound. Officers had been dispatched to a vehicle that went into the ditch. When the officer exited his vehicle to assist that driver, another vehicle hit the back of his cruiser, propelling it into the officer. The officer and the two drivers of the other vehicles suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The weather may have played a role.

WASHINGTON, D. C. (IRN) – Doug Jensen, the Des Moines man convicted in the January 6th Capitol riots and insurrection, has been sentenced to five years in prison. The federal judge slammed Jensen for his “lack of remorse and for emboldening attack on Officer Eugene Goodman” on the day of the riots. Jensen was found guilty on all counts in September. WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – A federal judge ruled that Salvador Sandoval of Ankeny was guilty of all 12 counts for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and insurrection. Sandoval was found guilty of six misdemeanors and six felonies, including assaulting, resisting or impeding four police officers while inside the Capitol that day. He faces over 20 years in prison. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly crash on Fleur Drive on Tuesday. Thirty-five-year-old Robert Miller III has been arrested on multiple charges, including homicide by vehicle, reckless driving, drag racing and excessive speed. A four-year-old was killed. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An arrest has been made in relation to a house fire in September that injured a firefighter and a man who lived at the home. Jesse James of Iowa City has been charged with second-degree arson for the fire. At the scene, emergency responders found a man found in the front yard, suffering from burns and wounds sustained in the fire. In the process of fighting the fire, one firefighter was injured when ceiling materials gave way and fell on him. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A 39-year-old woman was killed by a car Tuesday in Davenport. She is one of at least 44 Scott County pedestrians hit by cars this year. Three pedestrians have died in Scott County in 2022. Another seven have been seriously injured. All others suffered minor injuries. Overall, pedestrian fatalities are up across the nation, accounting for 17% of all traffic deaths.

MARENGO, IA (IRN) – Details have been released about the efforts that were needed to fight the biofuels facility fire at C6-Zero in Marengo a week ago. Iowa County Emergency Management reports at least 78 agencies responded to the explosion. That includes more than two dozen fire departments, and up to $80,000 in costs for the Marengo Fire Department alone. Crews used more than two million gallons of water and 3,500 gallons of foam during the 17-hour fight. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – One child has died after a three-vehicle crash that may have been caused by a street race in Des Moines on Tuesday. Police say a Genesis sedan driven by a 35-year-old man appears to have crossed over the median and entered the southbound traffic lanes. The sedan first crashed into a Honda Accord driven by a 38-year-old woman. The Accord had two passengers, an 8-year-old boy, and a 4-year-old boy. Next, the sedan crashed into a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 40-year-old woman. The 4-year-old was killed. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man died after a head-on crash in Cedar Rapids Wednesday morning. A utility truck collided head-on with an SUV. The driver of the SUV was killed. WASHINGTON, D.C (IRN) – As mother and son Deborah Sandoval and Salvador Sandoval were set to start a bench trial in a Washington courtroom for their involvement in the Jan. 6 riot and insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, Deborah Sandoval pleaded guilty to a single count. That single charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, supervised release of no more than a year, and up to a $100,000 fine and restitution. Her son, Salvador, continued on to trial Wednesday. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – The city of Dubuque plans to help address food deserts by putting in an indoor hydroponics system. That’s where produce can be grown in water instead of soil, making it accessible year-round.

CHICKASAW COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Minnesota man died Monday while trying to load a construction vehicle onto a flatbed truck in northeast Iowa. The accident happened just before noon in Chickasaw County. Joseph Gathje, 21, was working to load the vehicle when it rolled off the trailer into the ditch and pinned him. Gathje was pronounced dead at the scene. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Governor Kim Reynolds is banning TikTok from all state-owned devices effective immediately. The ban also prohibits state agencies from subscribing to or owning a TikTok account. Reynolds says the app’s ties to the Chinese government are a national security threat. WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – U.S. Senator Joni Ernst, a Republican from Red Oak, said that she stands behind her vote to support the federal Respect for Marriage Act, despite censures for her actions by seven Iowa GOP county parties. Eleven other Republican senators supported the bipartisan legislation. Iowa’s other U.S. senator, Republican Chuck Grassley of New Hartford, voted against it. Those county parties included Des Moines, Guthrie, Ida, Mahaska, Pocahontas, Van Buren, and Wright. COLESBURG, IA (IRN) – A 14-year-old from Colesburg is set to receive one of the 2022 Governor’s Lifesaving Awards for his quick action after a UTV accident in Delaware County earlier this year. Brody Oberbroeckling was outside in his yard when he saw three girls go by on a UTV. A few minutes later, he heard screaming. He ran to where the UTV had crashed, pinning one of the girls underneath. Brody was able to hold up the side of the UTV while others rescued the girl.
