POWESHIEK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Several crashes were reported along Interstate 80 Monday morning. The crashes were reported near Malcom. Authorities report multiple injuries. The number of vehicles and injuries is not yet known. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man was arrested Saturday after threatening to blow up the Des Moines Public Library and Des Moines Police Station. Donnie Shuman, 32, made threats to blow up the Des Moines Public Library while inside of the building Saturday morning. Occupants inside of the library overheard Shuman make the threat and, fearing for their safety, called police. Shuman also allegedly said while at the library that he was going to “kill every cop in Des Moines” and “blow up the whole … police station.” OMAHA, NE (IRN) – Police are looking for the suspect who left one person dead and 12 others injured during an early Sunday morning shooting in Omaha, Nebraska. BONDURANT (IRN) – The jury trial for the woman charged with second-degree murder after someone died at a Bondurant assisted living facility has been pushed back. Catherine Forkpa was originally set to start her trial on Monday; now it won’t begin until March 6. A woman diagnosed with Alzheimer’s was under Forkpa’s care at Hawthorne Crossing when she got outside in below-freezing temperatures. She died from hypothermia. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two weeks after Des Moines’ farmers’ market closed for the season, the city’s Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market returned on Saturday. There’s some fresh produce available, and for the winter season there are also several holiday-based vendors as well as an ice sculptor and heating tent.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A judge sentenced a Dubuque man to 50 years in prison Thursday for a deadly car crash that happened last year. Branden Authement was convicted of homicide by vehicle OWI, serious injury by vehicle, and theft. He stole a vehicle from a gas station in Dubuque on December 5, 2021. He’s convicted of driving recklessly and speeding up to 83 miles per hour before crashing into another car. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Republican Todd Halbur says he plans to ask for a recount in the state auditor’s race. With 99 percent of the votes counted, Democrat incumbent Rob Sand currently has about 2,600 more votes than Halbur. Sand declared victory in the race, but the race has not been officially called, and Halbur has not conceded. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Iowa labor leaders and the head of the Iowa National Guard say Union Pacific Railroad may be violating a state law by denying Veterans Day holiday requests for veterans. Iowa law requires companies to grant holiday time off to veterans on Veterans Day. AMES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Board of Regents have agreed to Iowa State University’s plan to construct CYTown, approving more than $28 million on the development project. CYTown will be built between Jack Trice Stadium and Hilton Coliseum. Plans include a mix of retail, restaurants, office space, and a hotel.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Republicans have secured another trifecta, winning even more seats than they previously had in the Iowa house and senate. 2023 will mark the seventh year in a row the GOP will have total control. Unofficial results have them gaining four seats in the Iowa house which expands the Republican majority, something they’ve held onto since 2011. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The election results for auditor of the state of Iowa are finally in. State Auditor Rob Sand, a Democrat, was re-elected to another four year term, beating Republican Todd Halbur by a little over 2,600 votes. Sand is now the only Democrat to hold statewide office in Iowa. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Governor Kim Reynolds has decided to turn down $30 million in federal funds for childcare. Staff say she didn’t want to use $4 million of state money to match the $30 million. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – On Thursday, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship announced it is ordering the cancellation of all live bird exhibitions at fairs and the gathering of birds due to the continued threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The Department’s order begins immediately and is effective for a minimum of 30 days. The order also prohibits live birds from being sold or transferred at livestock auction markets, swap meets, and sales. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – When was the last time Iowa did what we did on election day 2022–elect Republicans as Governor, both U.S. Senators, and all members of the House? Peanut M&M’s just came out. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The election results for auditor of the state of Iowa are finally in. State Auditor Rob Sand, a Democrat, was re-elected to another four year term, beating Republican Todd Halbur by approximately 2600 votes. Sand is now the only Democrat to hold statewide office in Iowa. JONES COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A motorcyclist was killed after hitting a deer Tuesday night in Jones County. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police say the victim of a kidnapping and assault is also a suspect in a Des Moines murder case. Court documents say Malik Hawkins ordered the kidnapping of 20-year-old Capone Blake while he was incarcerated in the Polk County Jail. Five men are accused of attacking Blake on Monday at an apartment complex. Police say the five men then took Blake to another address in the city and assaulted him again. Investigators believe this was over a drug debt. ROLAND, IA (IRN) – A Roland-Story High School student has been charged in an assault case. 17-year-old Kade Blume faces one count of felony assault as an adult. Blume allegedly stripped the clothes off the victim and assaulted the victim with a pencil. IOWA (IRN) – Secretary of State Paul Pate announced on Wednesday that the unofficial voter turnout for the November 2022 election was the second highest for a midterm in Iowa’s history. The voter turnout trailed only the 2018 midterm election. More than 1,220,000 Iowans voted in the 2022 election. IOWA (IRN) – A cold front moves through Iowa midday today, bringing chances for showers and storms and much colder conditions for at least the next week. An approaching cold front will bring an end to the mild conditions by midday. The front moves in during the late morning to early afternoon hours. As it does so, showers and storms will develop along the front.

IOWA (IRN) – While it wasn’t a red wave across the nation, it was in Iowa. Incumbent Republicans Governor Kim Reynolds, Senator Chuck Grassley, and Representatives Miller-Meeks, Feenstra, and Hinson all won re-election. Republican Zach Nunn has defeated incumbent Democrat Cindy Axne. Incumbent Democratic Attorney General Tom Miller has conceded to challenger Republican Brenna Bird. Republican Roby Smith defeated Democrat Treasurer Mike Fitzgerald, and incumbent Secretary of State Paul Pate beat Democrat Joel Miller. State Auditor Democrat Rob Sand leads Republican challenger Todd Halbur, but the race is too close to call. The Iowa Gun Rights amendment passed. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines Police have arrested five people who they say were involved in a drug-related kidnapping. A resident was reported missing on Nov. 7 amid a rumor that the person had been kidnapped. Police say the victim had been held against their will and assaulted at an apartment then later moved to another apartment where he was again held against his will and assaulted. The victim was released and later located by police at a local hospital. The victim was treated for significant facial injuries and later released. Police believe the victim owed a drug debt. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – ABC-affiliated Iowa news station KCRG was reportedly blacklisted from the Iowa GOP’s election results party. According to KCRG, it was denied media credentials for the Iowa Republicans’ GOP Victory Party at a downtown Des Moines hotel where Gov. Reynolds, Sen. Grassley and other top candidates and leaders watched election results live. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa teenager charged with killing her accused rapist is back in custody. 18-year-old Pieper Lewis Lewis had been serving probation at Fresh Start Women’s Center in Des Moines, for the 2020 stabbing death of Zachary Brooks. She left the facility on Nov. 4, cut off her GPS tracker, and was on the run ever since. WRIGHT COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Bird flu has hit a second commercial egg-laying facility in north central Iowa’s Wright County, forcing producers to destroy 1 million hens to contain the highly contagious disease.
