DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Polk County district judge has ruled Democrat Abby Finkenauer cannot appear on the Iowa primary election ballot for U.S. Senate because she doesn’t have enough valid signatures. Unless Finkenauer can successfully appeal the decision, voters will choose between Democrats Admiral Michael Franken, and Dr. Glenn Hurst to challenge Republican Sen. Charles Grassley. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a shooting at a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, nightclub early Sunday morning. The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. at the Taboo Nightclub and Lounge. The club was hosting a 90s-themed party, and nearly 150 people were inside the nightclub. WASHINGTON, D.C. (IRN) – U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has tested positive for COVID-19. Vilsack is fully vaccinated and boosted. He is only experiencing mild symptoms. AMES, IA (IRN) – Ongoing supply chain issues are impacting the Iowa Department of Transportation. Every spring, the DOT re-paints the lines on the road. Typically the six districts across the state order paint as they need it, but now they have a limited supply. Crews are focusing on critical areas first such as interstates, high-traffic areas, and center lines. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – President Biden will visit Iowa tomorrow. The president is visiting Menlo Tuesday. He’s expected to speak about his economic agenda, focusing on his infrastructure law. The law will bring millions to Iowa for roads, bridges and broadband. This is the president’s first trip to Iowa since before the 2020 election.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines Police Department have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting that took place Sunday. Tyrone Scott Cameron, 28, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder. Cameron attempted to evade officers on Friday. Police said he jumped from a residential rooftop. A police K9 was used to apprehend him. Jeffrey Dwayne Gillom, 59, of Des Moines, was killed in the shooting. A female victim was seriously injured. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man serving a 25-year prison sentence for rigging computers to win lottery jackpots has had his parole revoked after he got into trouble in prison just before his scheduled release. Eddie Tipton was approved for release by the Iowa Board of Parole on Jan. 20 because of good behavior. He had served nearly five years of his 25-year sentence. Authorities haven’t said what he did to have his parole revoked. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – President Joe Biden will make his first trip to Iowa since he was elected next week. Biden will join US Representative Cindy Axne in Des Moines on Tuesday, April 12th. Details of the event, including the time and location, haven’t been released. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – State Republicans and Democrats will battle it out on Principal Park’s baseball field. The Inaugural Legislative Slow-Pitch Softball Game will be May 1st. Proceeds from the bi-partisan softball game will go to charity.

CHICAGO, IL (IRN) – Six human skulls bound for Iowa were intercepted by U.S. Customs in Chicago. They were coming from the Netherlands. After the discovery, the skulls were then given to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but it’s unknown why they were on their way to Iowa. GLENWOOD, IA (IRN) – Gov. Kim Reynolds on Thursday announced a troubled state facility will close in 2024. The Glenwood Resource Center was the center of a federal investigation over the way it treated people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Accusations of abuse and experimentation on vulnerable Iowans led to the investigation. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Two masked suspects, one armed with a gun, robbed the Gas and Electric Credit Union in Rock Island on Thursday afternoon. Police located and arrested the suspects in Davenport. CLAYTON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A Clayton county man assaulted his wife and tipped his son’s car over with a skid loader. When officers arrived, they found 44-year-old Chad Harbaugh, who smelled strongly of alcohol, had watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and poor balance. He refused to take a sobriety test. Witnesses say Harbaugh flipped his son’s car over after he came to his mother’s defense during the assault. WASHINGTON, D.C (IRN) – An Iowa sailor killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor is finally coming home. On Thursday, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced that the remains of 21-year-old Navy Storekeeper 3rd Class Harry Nichols of Sioux City have been identified. Nichols was one of 429 crewmen who lost their lives at Pearl Harbor when the USS Oklahoma was attacked and sank on Dec. 7, 1941.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police said a man found with gunshot wounds Thursday morning has died from his injuries. Police said the victim is a 36-year-old Des Moines man. His identity has not yet been released pending family notification. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines man who faked his own death and fled the state to avoid a trial on child pornography charges is back in custody. After nearly six years on the run, U.S. Marshals arrested Jacob Greer, 28, in Spanaway, Washington on Monday. In April 2016, officers arrested Greer on charges of receipt and possession of child pornography. He was released on bond the next day with an ankle monitor. Police later found his ankle monitor in his car along with a suicide note, but no body. Greer was living with his grandmother in Des Moines at the time. JOHNSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Johnson County Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity on Tuesday, and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, 43-year-old Francisco Nunez of Muscatine, drove away. After a short chase, Nunez drove his vehicle down a boat ramp into the Iowa River. Police were able to rescue him. He faces multiple charges, including an OWI. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Three mental health bills face an uphill battle in the state Legislature. They passed the Iowa House with sweeping bipartisan support, but they’ve stalled in the Republican led Senate. Iowa currently ranks as one of the worst states in the country when it comes to psychiatric care. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa State Fair has made its final Grandstand announcement of 2022. ZZ Top will perform with special guest Ann Wilson from Heart. The rock legends will perform at 8 p.m. on August 16th. Tickets will cost $40-$60 and go on sale tomorrow.

OSCEOLA, IA (IRN) – Fire crews spent hours battling a blaze on the downtown square in Osceola yesterday morning. The building was vacant, but there is an apartment building next to the fire. People living there were safely evacuated. The fire chief says the firewall stopped the flames from spreading. INDIANAPOLIS, IN (IRN) – The Indiana State Police said Tuesday that they used genealogical data and crime scene evidence to link an Iowa man who died in 2013 to the killings of three female motel clerks and the sexual assault of a fourth in Indiana and Kentucky from 1987 through 1990. Harry Edward Greenwell, who died at age 68 in New Albin, Iowa was the so-called “I-65 killer.” The killings earned that name because they happened at motels near Interstate 65. POLK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Polk County Board of Supervisors committed over $15 million to affordable housing projects on Tuesday. A majority of that money will be used to support the acquisition, conversion and construction of permanent housing that supervisors said will be geared toward supportive housing for underserved populations. The units will be for single people making less than $19,000 a year, and $27,000 a year for a family of four. Rent would range from $480 to $685 a month. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – In a bill passed by the Iowa Senate on Tuesday, the State of Iowa would spend $1,000,000 on nonprofit pregnancy support groups that oppose abortion. The bill is now eligible for consideration by the Iowa House. IOWA (IRN) – The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa has sent letters to four cities stating that their panhandling ordinances violate free speech and must be repealed. The four cities that received letters are Bettendorf, Davenport, Coralville, and Dubuque. Staff with the ACLU say cities are restricting free speech and criminalizing poverty.
