MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – Marshalltown schools are having trouble filling positions. The board just approved pay increases and sign-on bonuses. The new high school French, Math and Industrial Arts teachers will get an extra $5,000 if they commit to staying for three years. The district offers $175 per day for licensed teachers and $135 per day for substitutes. BOZEMAN, MT (IRN) – An Iowa snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche west of Yellowstone National Park over the weekend in Montana. Bradie Harold Becker, 30, of Algona, died of asphyxiation after being buried in avalanche debris. WAUKEE, IA (IRN) – Apple is currently finalizing plans to build a billion-dollar data center in Waukee. The project was announced in 2017, but had lost traction until recently. If the project is approved by Waukee City Council, construction on the data center will begin as soon as this spring. DALLAS COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa DNR has confirmed a mountain lion sighting Monday night in rural Dallas County. The big cat was captured by a trail camera, owned by a man who uses it to look for deer on his property. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A woman from west Africa had her dream of owning a restaurant come true in Cedar Rapids. Tee’s Liberian Dish opened across from Coe College in July. Teepeu Pewu says she went from cooking for baby showers and birthday parties, to owning the only African restaurant in the city. Everything is made from scratch.

MARION, IA (IRN) – A Marion man has been arrested and faces a possible murder charge after authorities ruled his infant son’s death was a homicide. Samuel Goodwin, 22, was arrested Monday on possible charges of first-degree murder and child endangerment causing death. An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, caused by multiple head injuries. Goodwin said he was caring for his son alone when he became “flustered and irritated” because the baby would not stop crying or take a bottle. MILFORD, IA (IRN) – An Iowa man accused of shooting a woman he had previously been in a relationship with in a Milford parking lot is now charged with first-degree murder after the woman died. On Feb. 3, Christian William Goyne-Yarns approached Shelby Woizeschke in a parking lot and shot her multiple times. He was arrested a short time later after the victim called 911 and told dispatchers who shot her. They have two children. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police responded to a report of a dog attack Saturday. The dog was outside its yard and attacking a group of individuals when an officer arrived. Three people were bitten by the dog before the officer used a taser multiple times to try to subdue the dog. The taser proved unsuccessful, and the officer fired four shots, injuring it. The dog was euthanized. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Athletics Department has denounced racist remarks made by a fan toward one of Wisconsin’s wrestlers during a Saturday dual at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The department has reached out to Wisconsin and the student-athlete to apologize. The fan faces a possible ban from the arena. ​​IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – West Des Moines native Caitlin Clark is becoming a household name. The Iowa sophomore earned the Big Ten Player of the Week award on Monday after putting up incredible numbers last week. Clark averaged 38.7 points, 9.3 assists and 6.3 rebounds in three games. She scored 40+ points in two of those games, including 43 points against No. 23 Ohio State and a career-high 46 points against No. 6 Michigan. Clark became the first Division I player in the last 20 seasons to record 45 points and 10 assists in the game against Michigan.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) -The National Weather Service has continued to confirm additional tornadoes in the December 15, 2021 outbreak, upping the total of tornadoes for the year to 114. That date holds the record for the largest single-day outbreak in Iowa with 63 tornadoes. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A shooting early Sunday morning in the College Hill area of Cedar Falls sent three people to the hospital. Two of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, and one has died. Two Mason City men have been arrested in the killing. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – One person is in the hospital and another is behind bars after an attempted car robbery which damaged a south Des Moines gas station. The suspect attempted to steal a Chevy Malibu from the parking lot, and beat up the driver of the car in the process. The car violently backed into a support beam during the attempted carjacking, which destroyed the rear half of the Malibu. The suspect was arrested at the scene. CEDAR RAPIDS, (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police were notified on Monday of a suspect using someone else’s identity to receive medical services at a local hospital. Police say 34-year-old Kaycee Stickley had been using another person’s identity at a minimum of two medical facilities in Cedar Rapids. She faces multiple charges. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Republicans have released three plans to cut taxes in Iowa and all share the common themes of phasing in a flat personal income tax and eliminating taxes on retirement income at a cost of billions of dollars to state revenue. Democrats argue the changes would primarily help high-income residents and risk future budget problems.

CEDAR RAPIDS, (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police were notified on Monday of a suspect using someone else’s identity to receive medical services at a local hospital. Police say 34-year-old Kaycee Stickley had been using another person’s identity at a minimum of two medical facilities in Cedar Rapids. She faces multiple charges. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Republicans have released three plans to cut taxes in Iowa and all share the common themes of phasing in a flat personal income tax and eliminating taxes on retirement income at a cost of billions of dollars to state revenue. Democrats argue the changes would primarily help high-income residents and risk future budget problems. AMES, IA (IRN) – The Tenth-ranked Iowa State women’s basketball team matched the best start in school history with a 76-58 victory over Oklahoma State at Hilton Coliseum Saturday. The Cyclones improved to 20-3 on the season and 9-2 in Big 12 Conference play. It’s only the second time in program history that Iowa State has reached 20 wins in its first 23 games and it’s the first time since the 2000-01 season.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The body of a man has been found in a tent on a bike trail along the Des Moines River. Other residents of the homeless camp say he was experiencing medical problems. Central Iowa Shelter & Services say they offered shelter to the man, but he declined. There is no evidence of foul play. IOWA (IRM) – Two-hundred-fifty soldiers with the Iowa National Guard have been called to active duty and will deploy to Poland later this year on a support and deterrence mission. The Iowa soldiers come from the 1133rd Transportation Company in Mason City and the 209th Medical Company Area Support in Iowa City. The deployment comes as Russia threatens Ukraine. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court on Friday rejected a Black man’s argument that he was denied his right to an impartial jury because of a flawed process that excluded Black people and resulted in only white jurors. Kenneth Lee Lilly was convicted for helping a relative rob a southeast Iowa bank in 2016. Lilly alleged that his right to an impartial jury under both the U.S. and Iowa constitutions was violated because neither his jury nor the group from which his jury was selected contained any Black people. IOWA (IRN) – The structural condition of nearly 1,800 Iowa bridges is “basically intolerable,” including more than 140 in the Des Moines metro, according to data from federal highway officials. In the last two decades, Iowa has had three bridges collapse.
