MILFORD, IA (IRN) – An Iowa man faces attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot a woman multiple times in a parking lot Thursday morning. Officers arrested 25-year-old Christian Goyne-Yarns, of Spirit Lake, without incident. He has been charged with attempted murder and is being held in the Dickinson County Jail. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The pandemic is officially over in Iowa. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that she has signed the final extension of Iowa’s Public Health Disaster Emergency Proclamation and announced it will expire at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15. The state’s websites that track virus data and provide vaccination information will be decommissioned the next day. LOGAN, IA (IRN) – A fatal hit-and-run that stemmed from a fight between friends over mayonnaise has ended with a western Iowa man being sentenced to life in prison. Kristofer Erlbacher, 29, of Woodbine, was sentenced Monday to a mandatory life sentence in the 2020 killing of 30-year-old Caleb Solberg. The men were eating and drinking at a Moorhead bar when Erlbacher put mayonnaise on Solberg’s food. A fist fight between the two men ensued, and later Erlbacher ran over Solberg with his truck. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Democrats unveiled their plan to cut taxes for Iowans yesterday. They propose cutting taxes for the middle class, not for big corporations. To do that, they recommend expanding the child and dependent care tax credit for anyone earning less than $90,000 a year. Current Republican proposals would impose a flat tax rate on individuals. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa has announced the first person to commit in the history of the Iowa women’s wrestling program. Head coach Clarissa Chun announced Kylie Welker, from Franksville, Wisconsin, has signed a letter of intent. Welker is a 2021 Junior World Champion. She won a gold medal at the 2021 Junior World Championships, and led Team USA to its first Junior world team title. She’s considered the top recruit in the country.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Two West Des Moines residents are in jail after a young boy suffered second-degree burns. West Des Moines police said 26-year-old Teta Barley and 25-year-old Kuley Karlar were supposed to be caring for the 3-year-old child. According to police, the boy had burns on his genital area, buttocks, thighs and feet. He is now recovering in a hospital in stable condition. The suspects are each charged with felony neglect and are being held in the Polk County Jail. Police did not release details about their relationship to the child. U.S.A (IRN) – Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley says he supports President Biden sending more troops to Europe to bolster our NATO allies. Grassley says the U.S. should help strengthen Ukraine with more defensive weapons as Russian troops amass at their shared border. ​​ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man has been charged with robbery after he allegedly tried to rob a Kum & Go. A clerk at the store said he refused to sell alcohol to a man who didn’t have an ID. A few minutes later, the man returned to the store holding an item the clerk knew wasn’t a firearm and demanded money from the cash register. The clerk refused to give up any money and the suspect left. 33-year-old Eric Storm was arrested on Wednesday. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An arrest warrant has been issued for a Cedar Rapids man after he failed to appear in court last week on a charge accusing him of harassing a Linn County prosecutor. 34-year-old Marcus Alan DeVore allegedly contacted Assistant Linn County Attorney Monica Slaughter with the intent to threaten or intimidate her. Although he was warned not to contact her again, he continued to send her Facebook messages that included “vulgar, threatening, alarming and intimidating language and emojis.” AMES, IA (IRN) – Emily Ryan and Lexi Donarski scored 15 points apiece, Ashley Joens had a double-double and No. 11 Iowa State used a dominant third quarter to defeat No. 25 Kansas State 70-55 last night. ISU held K-State scoring sensation Ayoka Lee to 12 points, 13 below her average of 25. ISU improves to 19-3, 8-2 in the Big 12. They ended the night tied for first place with Oklahoma.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – At the Iowa Statehouse, a Senate file on hiring workers not authorized to work in the U.S. was approved. A similar bill was introduced in the Iowa House. The bill prohibits employers from knowingly hiring those they know aren’t allowed to work here and requires the use of the E-verify program and for the employer to keep records. Both the House and Senate have passed different versions of the bill in previous years, but it has never made it to the governor’s desk. ALLAMAKEE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person has died and another was injured in a crash involving a UTV and an SUV in northeastern Iowa Monday. Both vehicles were driving east on Highway 9 north of Waukon in Allamakee County. The UTV was driving on the shoulder when it turned in front of the SUV. The driver of the UTV was killed. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police arrested and charged two teens in connection with a shooting near the Polk County Courthouse on Monday. Witnesses saw a group of juveniles shooting at a car. Police were able to identify the two shooters using surveillance video. A 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were both charged with reckless use of a firearm. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – The Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office is facing a lawsuit claiming a deputy used excessive force during a mental health crisis at the county jail. Cory Conway was arrested and later pleaded guilty to charges stemming from an arson for an apartment fire last February. Conway’s suit alleges he has PTSD, and was having flashbacks to his military service when a deputy performed a body throw to get him on the floor, during which his wrist snapped. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – State Republicans are moving to shorten the length of time Iowans can receive unemployment benefits by two and a half months. If the measure becomes law, Iowa would go from offering 26 weeks of unemployment benefits to 16 weeks. Workers would also be required to take lower-paying jobs sooner, or risk losing their benefits. The bill would also cap damages in medical malpractice and truck-driving lawsuits.

URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – Urbandale police say a man left his 74-year-old partner lying on a bedroom floor for days before her death. Court documents show Gregory Quick called 911 four days after the woman fell. He gave her no food or water, according to police. Quick admitted he was the victim’s caretaker. She died days later at the hospital. He’s charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The number of people hospitalized due to the coronavirus and the number of confirmed infections have dropped in Iowa, but hundreds of people in the state remain seriously ill with the virus. While hospitalizations have dropped about 10% in a week, Iowa has 849 people hospitalized with COVID-19 and 130 in intensive care. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have arrested a man who allegedly snuck into a hospital and bottle-fed a baby that wasn’t his. Adam Wedig, 36, is charged with two counts of criminal trespassing. He’s being held in the Polk County Jail. Detectives determined there was no intent to do the infant harm. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new report by State Auditor Rob Sand says there are no significant concerns regarding the integrity of the COVID-19 data reported by the Iowa Department of Public Health on its public website. Sand found any delays and late-recorded test results appear to be attributable entirely to private labs submitting results late, rather than any issues from the Iowa state government. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new, high-tech downtown Des Moines parking system will begin partial service in a few weeks. The traditional parking meters will soon be replaced with new parking kiosks. CARLISLE, IA (IRN) – Carlisle police are looking for a man who tried to rob a Dollar General in Carlisle Sunday night. Police say the man demanded money from the cashier while displaying a handgun and when the cashier refused, he fled the scene. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A man accused of killing a woman and then setting her body on fire is pleading not guilty. Dominick Daniel Degner, 28 of Mason City, is scheduled to stand trial on April 19 on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree arson. Court documents say Degner beat Tonette Wolfe, 24, to death and then used gasoline to set fire to her body. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Closing time on Court Avenue in downtown Des Moines was met with flying bottles and gunshots Sunday morning. Des Moines police say several fights happened as bars closed. Items were thrown including bottles. Luis Manriquez, 25, was arrested after police say he pulled a gun on a security guard at Voodoo Lounge Bar. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A man who was sentenced to 25 years in prison after rigging a lottery game in his favor will be released from prison early. Eddie Tipton, 58, has been serving the sentence for a charge of ongoing criminal conduct. He pleaded guilty to the charge in 2017. Tipton was accused of rigging a computer program while employed at the Multi-State Lottery Association to enable him to pick winning numbers in several lottery games over six years. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Amazon plans to hire more than 200 people through full-time and contract positions for its new delivery station in Dubuque. The center opened this month with 30 employees. Officials say they hope to add 100 to 150 warehouse workers. The facility is expected to process approximately 25,000 packages per day.
