CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – One person was hurt in a shooting incident in Cedar Rapids on Saturday night. An adult male who had been shot was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of what officials described as non-life-threatening injuries. Police said they took a juvenile suspect into custody after gathering evidence at the scene. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Some pharmacies across Iowa are shortening their hours because they are short on staff. There is a lack of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians all around the state right now, according to Renae Chesnut, the dean of Drake University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. She cites burnout due to the pandemic as the source of the shortage. MOLINE, IL (IRN) – The United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers (UAW) announced Saturday it reached a tentative agreement with John Deere. UAW said the John Deere bargaining team reached a tentative agreement, but the strike will continue while they finish the process of verifying the agreement. IOWA (IRN) – West Virginia beat No. 22 Iowa State 38-31 in college football Saturday, and Wisconsin beat No. 9 Iowa 27-7.

URBANDALE, IA (IRN) – An Urbandale man was arrested after police said he tried to kill his girlfriend when she was breaking up with him. Nathan Aguirre, 30, was charged with attempted murder and willful injury causing serious injury. Aguirre admitted to pulling a knife and cutting his girlfriend multiple times during an argument Thursday night. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A 13-year-old girl in Dubuque was taken into custody Thursday after stabbing two other teens. Dubuque Police responded to a report of a large disturbance and found the two stabbed girls. JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – The Johnston school board race has attracted the attention of right-wing political action group 1776 Action. The group, which draws inspiration from former President Donald Trump’s 1776 Commission and lists correcting “anti-American indoctrination” among its goals, claims three Johnston School Board candidates signed their pledge of objectives. The 1776 Commission has been panned by historians as being inaccurate and biased. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Friday that the state has joined nine other states in a lawsuit that challenges President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for workers employed by federal contractors.

CHELSEA, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Safety says a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in the town of Chelsea in Tama County. Law enforcement agencies responded to a call and found 28-year-old Dewey Wilfong III walking with a handgun. A Tama County Deputy fired one shot, hitting him in the chest. Wilfong was taken to the hospital, where he died. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Marshalltown man was taken into custody Thursday after an hours-long standoff with authorities at a house in Nevada. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office had gotten a tip that an armed man had meth inside the home and was possibly distributing it. The Story County SWAT team in a heavily armored vehicle was able to take him into custody. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa lawmakers approved the new redistricting maps that will impact political boundaries for the next decade. On Thursday, Democrats and Republicans agreed that the second set of maps were fair, nonpartisan and met all constitutional requirements. Wapello County would fall in Iowa’s third district which would trigger a faceoff between the district’s current representatives: Democrat Rep. Cindy Axne and Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks. MARION, IA (IRN) – One day after the Iowa Legislature approved new redistricting maps, Congresswoman Ashley Hinson announced she will be running for re-election in Iowa’s new 2nd Congressional District in 2022. Hinson currently represents District 1, but under the new maps, Linn County, where she lives, will be in District 2. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – During the redistricting special session, Republicans introduced a bill that could make it possible for Iowans to opt out of vaccine mandates set by businesses. The House and Senate passed the measure.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 19-year-old Des Moines man was stabbed to death early Thursday morning. Police are investigating. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines woman has been accused of shooting at a group of people. Police said 27-year-old Kayla Thompson got into a physical fight with her family last week at a home. Police said she came back with a gun and shot at them several times. One person was grazed with a bullet. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Lawmakers will converge on the State Capitol today to look over the second non-partisan proposal for new local and congressional maps. The Legislative Services Agency’s first attempt at redistricting was voted down by Iowa lawmakers October 5. If lawmakers do not approve the second set of redistricting maps, the LSA will have to try again for a third non-partisan attempt which legislators can modify. PEOSTA, IA (IRN) – Peosta Mayor Jim Merten has resigned days away from the Nov. 2 election while he is the only name on Peosta’s mayoral ballot. Mayor Merten announced his resignation through a letter to city council members. Marten wrote, “There have been recent and unexpected changes in my life outside of the mayoral role that will impair my ability to serve for the foreseeable future.” IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa star basketball player Caitlin Clark is now the first collegiate athlete to sign a sponsorship deal with Hy-Vee. Clark and the grocery store chain announced the deal Wednesday. The NCAA changed its policy earlier this year to allow college athletes to make money off their name, image and likeness.

MILAN, IL (IRN) – A 56-year-old Deere & Co. employee on strike died in Milan, Illinois, on Wednesday morning after a car hit him. The worker was walking to a picket line when he was hit. He was a member of UAW Local 79, which represents workers at a Deere warehouse in Milan, part of the Quad Cities metro area of Iowa and Illinois. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A nine-year-old Des Moines cold case is now closed thanks to an inmate’s confession. Des Moines police say 35-year-old William Rulli, a current inmate at the Anamosa State Penitentiary, confessed to the 2012 murder of a 56-year-old homeless man in Des Moines named Stanley Golinsky. Golinsky’s body was found brutally beaten and burned underneath a railroad bridge. Rulli knew details that hadn’t been released to the public. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids Development Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Building and Construction Trades Council outlining the intention to enter a project labor agreement once plans are developed for a local casino. The memorandum is contingent upon a successful gaming referendum in Linn County on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Comedian Dave Chappelle plans to bring his jokes to Des Moines for a screening of his new documentary ‘Untitled’. Chappelle is expected to draw a massive crowd at Wells Fargo Arena on Nov. 9. The visit comes on the heels of Chappelle’s controversial comments about the LGBTQ community in his previous documentary ‘The Closer’, which is currently streaming on Netflix. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Caitlin Clark is the first Iowa women’s basketball player to be named an AP Preseason All-American. Clark was also named by Big Ten coaches as the league’s preseason player of the year and joined teammate Monika Czinano on the 10-player preseason all-Big Ten teams selected by Big Ten coaches and a media panel.
