MARTELLE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released new information on a structure fire and fatal police shooting that happened Tuesday night. DPS officials said the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was called to a structure fire near Martelle. Arriving officers found a large structure fire and a person armed with a knife. Initial reports indicate the armed person did not comply with orders to drop the knife. The subject received multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting Tuesday after a woman was dropped off at a metro hospital with a gunshot wound. Police arrested the man who dropped her off. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – Fire crews battled a massive fire at a large apartment building in Ankeny Tuesday. No one was injured, but the building looks to be a total loss. It had no sprinkler system. CANTRIL, IA (IRN) – A southeast Iowa company will pay a $75,000 penalty for installing “defeat devices” in vehicles that disable emission controls designed to reduce harmful air pollution. The EPA said Midwest Truck Products, a diesel repair shop in Cantril, tampered with vehicle engines or installed or sold devices to disable emissions controls for hundreds of customers.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) -A homicide investigation is underway in Des Moines after the body of a man was found in a wooded area near a bike trail Monday night. Police said the man has been identified as a 43-year-old Des Moines resident. Police said the man sustained a gunshot injury prior to his death. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Several people were brought ashore from the swollen Cedar River on Sunday evening after their boats became disabled. The Black Hawk County dispatch center received a report of a person in a disabled boat that had become stuck in a tree after losing engine power. A second boat had attempted to tow the first boat to safety, but that boat also became disabled after losing power and was also stuck in the tree. CHICKASAW COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Another Iowa county has approved a second amendment sanctuary resolution. Chickasaw County is now the 11th Iowa county to take action against any laws hindering gun rights at the local level. IOWA (IRN) – The U.S. Department of Education is investigating the Iowa Department of Education over the state’s ban on mask mandates. The department says the state’s law could amount to discrimination against students with disabilities or health conditions. Four other Republican-led states received the same letter.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An immense amount of rain fell in northern Iowa and that water is now traveling through the river systems. Between Friday and Saturday approximately a foot of rain fell in some parts of northern Iowa. That water fell on the watersheds of many of eastern Iowa’s rivers and is leading to big rises. The Turkey and Wapsipinicon Rivers will be cresting through the week. MONTEZUMA, IA (IRN) – Cristhian Bahena Rivera was sentenced today for the murder of Mollie Tibbetts. Bahena was convicted May 28 for killing Tibbetts in 2018, and faces a mandatory life sentence for first-degree murder. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Twelve Iowans are headed to the Gulf Coast with the American Red Cross to help those hit hard by Hurricane Ida. The dangerous Category 4 hurricane made landfall Sunday near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, with winds of 150 mph. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A security guard fired a warning shot into the air just before closing time at The Firm, a bar in the Court Avenue Entertainment Zone in Des Moines early Sunday morning. Police say a fight broke out in which a person tackled an armed security guard and may have reached for that guard’s gun. A second security guard fired a warning shot in the air to stop the situation. No one was injured. SMITHLAND, IA (IRN) – Nearly 80 years after he was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Wesley Brown has been laid to rest in the Woodbury County town of Smithland. His final resting place is a site near the graves of his mother and sister who both died long before his remains could be identified through DNA testing. Brown died at age 25 aboard the USS Oklahoma during the Dec. 7, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

WEST LIBERTY, IA (IRN) – One person is dead and two others injured after a train collided with a vehicle in West Liberty Saturday. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries when multiple vehicles crashed on the northeast side of Des Moines on Saturday. A vehicle headed northbound on Hubbell Avenue swerved into the southbound lane and collided with a southbound vehicle. That vehicle was then rear-ended by another southbound vehicle. AMES, IA (IRN) – The City of Ames said residents near Munn Woods and Emma McCarthy Lee Park had intense wind early Saturday morning. Several people in the area lost power and there were many downed tree limbs. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Multiple rounds of very heavy rainfall in parts of northern Iowa caused flooding issues on Saturday morning, including fast rises on area rivers. Officials reported flooding in the area after 3 to 8 inches of rainfall occurred Friday night into Saturday morning.

IOWA (IRN) – Iowa law enforcement agencies on Thursday and Friday participated in a multi-state operation that resulted in 102 arrests and identified 47 victims of human trafficking. Agencies from Iowa executed 10 search warrants, identified five businesses involved in human trafficking, made 11 arrests and seized a large quantity of U.S. currency. MARBLE ROCK, IA (IRN) – Officials in Floyd County say that a tornado caused significant damage in and around the community of Marble Rock Friday evening. Emergency management officials said the tornado touched down around 6 p.m. Power lines and trees were knocked over in the community of about 300 people. There was serious damage to several buildings. The fire department said that “large above-ground propane tanks were knocked over by a tornado.” DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Polk County Health Department on Friday announced visitor restrictions will be in place once again due to COVID-19. Effective Tuesday, only one support person will be allowed per day for each patient at Broadlawns Medical Center, MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center and UnityPoint Health. IOWA (IRN) – On Friday, the Iowa Supreme Court issued a supervisory order requiring face coverings for all people entering court-controlled areas in all 99 counties regardless of a person’s vaccination status or a county or area’s positivity rate or transmission status.
