MARTELLE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Safety has released new information on a structure fire and fatal police shooting that happened Tuesday night. DPS officials said the Jones County Sheriff’s Office was called to a structure fire near Martelle. Arriving officers found a large structure fire and a person armed with a knife. Initial reports indicate the armed person did not comply with orders to drop the knife. The subject received multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating a shooting Tuesday after a woman was dropped off at a metro hospital with a gunshot wound. Police arrested the man who dropped her off. ANKENY, IA (IRN) – Fire crews battled a massive fire at a large apartment building in Ankeny Tuesday. No one was injured, but the building looks to be a total loss. It had no sprinkler system. CANTRIL, IA (IRN) – A southeast Iowa company will pay a $75,000 penalty for installing “defeat devices” in vehicles that disable emission controls designed to reduce harmful air pollution. The EPA said Midwest Truck Products, a diesel repair shop in Cantril, tampered with vehicle engines or installed or sold devices to disable emissions controls for hundreds of customers.
