IOWA (IRN) – University of Iowa Hawkeyes’ legend Dan Gable will receive a Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Trump. Gable will be the first athlete and coach from the sport of wrestling to receive the medal. The Presidential Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made meritorious contributions to the country’s national interests or culture. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The latest numbers from the Iowa Department of Public health show hospitalizations from COVID-19 continue to rise, reaching another daily record. Eleven more Iowans have also died from COVID-19 and 1,180 new cases have been reported. DES MOINES, IA (IRA) – A teenager is fighting for his life in a Des Moines hospital after being injured in an early morning shooting yesterday. Two other teens were also shot, but are recovering from non-life threatening injuries. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Donald Trump Jr. spoke to about 150 supporters of President Donald Trump on the steps of the Statehouse Tuesday in advance of his father’s upcoming Des Moines rally this evening. Trump Jr. spoke to supporters about the pre-pandemic economy and his father’s appointment of conservative judges. He also urged his father’s supporters to get out and vote. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A group of Iowa Republicans met virtually Tuesday to pledge their support for Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden. The meeting was part of an event called “Republicans for Biden.” Among the attendees were former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and former Iowa Congressman Jim Leach. Both criticized President Donald Trump for what they called a lack of leadership and explained why they will be voting against their party this year. IOWA (IRN) – Swarms of small black Pirate bugs are driving Iowans back into their homes. The bugs don’t spread disease or draw blood like other insects, but their bite is much more painful. The bugs spend all summer as a helpful predator in fields and gardens eating the eggs of annoying insects. But, when the fall harvest hits, they come out in swarms looking for more food, and we are on the menu. Experts say they will go into hibernation as the weather cools.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa has set another new record for coronavirus hospitalizations as the state reported 17 additional deaths Tuesday. There have been 1,464 total deaths. Health department data shows a record number of Iowans are hospitalized with the virus. There are currently 463 hospitalized, up from 449 the previous day and higher than the previous record of 461 set on October 8. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa reached a grim milestone on Monday, surpassing 100,000 coronavirus cases. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, there were 432 new cases reported in Iowa. That brings the total number of cases in the state to 100,027. State Epidemiologist Dr. Caitlin Pedati said the increase in cases correlates with the increase in community activity. Dr. Pedati urges Iowans to limit social gatherings. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie is concerned a rally planned by President Donald Trump at the Des Moines International Airport tomorrow could be a super-spreader event. The campaign is encouraging attendees to wear masks and socially distance. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The University of Iowa athletics department reported 10 more positive COVID-19 test results among coaches, staff, and athletes between October 5 and October 11. Individuals who tested positive are undergoing isolation procedures and staff will conduct contract tracing to identify any other potential exposures. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Four days after the tragic accident that took his life, University of Northern Iowa freshman Isaac Roerig was honored by his classmates. Roerig was outside his car when he was hit by a semi. Over 100 people gathered, playing music and sharing memories. The Panther marching band performed as friends of Roerig’s wept and hugged one another.

IOWA (IRN) – Iowa has surpassed 100,000 people testing positive for COVID-19. As of Monday morning, Iowa Department of Public Health data showed 100,027 people testing positive since the pandemic began. A total of 1,462 Iowans have died. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new CBS poll released Sunday shows President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden tied in Iowa. Both are currently at 49% with a 3.5 point margin of error. The poll showed Democratic candidate Theresa Greenfield in the lead over Republican Sen. Joni Ernst. Greenfield polled at 47% and Ernst polled with 43%. WASHINGTON, DC (IRN) – The Trump Campaign has announced that President Trump will hold a campaign event in Des Moines on Wednesday. The Make America Great Again Rally is set for 6:00 pm at the Des Moines International Airport. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State has moved up in the AP Top 25 after a convincing win against Texas Tech on Saturday. The Cyclones moved up from No. 24 to No. 20 in the latest AP Top 25 Poll released Sunday. Iowa State and Kansas State both sit atop the Big 12 standings at 3-0 in the conference.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Public Health reports an additional 1,315 additional COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. There have been 21 additional COVID-19 deaths for a statewide death toll of 1,454. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Fresh off surviving the coronavirus, President Trump is back on the campaign trail and heading for Iowa. The President is scheduled to speak at a Make America Great Again rally on October 14 at the Des Moines International Airport. IOWA (IRN) – Alex Thomsen, an Iowa native and Nebraska wrestler, is a Senior Greco National Champion. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State took down Texas Tech 31-15. Sophomore running back Breece Hall scored two touchdowns in the first half and led the way for Iowa State in their third straight win this season. Coach Matt Campbell is now 5-0 against Texas Tech. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – COVID-19 hospitalization rates are rising around the country and in Iowa. Health professionals are now preparing for a potential second surge in COVID-19 cases. Officials in Iowa fear a shortage of ICU beds over the coming fall and winter seasons. DUBUQUE COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Dubuque County has started reporting COVID-19 data by zip code. That data shows higher percentages of the population in smaller towns have contracted the virus when compared to urban areas. SAC COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Sac County authorities are searching for two inmates who escaped from jail Friday. The men overpowered a jailer, and were last seen running from the Sac County Courthouse in Sac City. The men are considered dangerous. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced on Friday the state has now reached a record in the number of absentee ballots requested, surpassing the last record set in 2016. According to Pate, more than 700,000 Iowans have requested an absentee ballot. In 2016, 693,000 absentee ballots were requested.
