ANKENY, IA (IRN) – A fatal Monday crash occurred while a woman was learning to drive a stick shift in Polk County north of Ankeny. Tracy Gugger, 55, of Ankeny, was killed while riding in a Mustang with a 38-year-old Des Moines woman who was learning how to drive a manual transmission. Officials didn’t say whether the stick shift was directly correlated with the crash.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man is behind bars on multiple charges after police say he kidnapped a baby and threatened to kill her. WHO-TV reports a woman told police Monday night that Cato Gephart, 22, took her 18-month-old daughter and threatened to kill the child, dump her body in a corn field and kill himself. Gephart eventually returned with the child and was taken into custody.

AMES, IA (IRN) – An Iowa State University student faces charges after Ames police said he threatened his roommate and said he wanted to “kill every Asian.” KCCI-TV reports police charged Kyle Haney with harassment and criminal mischief. Haney allegedly kicked his roommate’s door repeatedly Sunday while screaming that he wanted to kill him. Police say Haney was highly intoxicated.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A stolen car was pulled out of the Mississippi River near Davenport after police say it was detected by sonar. WQAD-TV reports the car was detected in mid-November, just downstream from a boat ramp. Police said it took a lot of work to locate and pull the Pontiac Bonneville out of the water.

WYOMING, IA (IRN) – Homeowners in the Jones County town of Wyoming woke up to a car that drove through a building on their property Monday morning. But this isn’t the first time it has happened. KCRG-TV reports it’s a T-intersection, and homeowners say it’s the sixth time a car has crashed into the building. The car was able to go through a barricade set to protect the structure. The driver had a seizure and will be OK.

MILLS COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Mills County sheriff’s deputies took a man into custody following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle early Tuesday. KETV reports law enforcement had tried to pull over the vehicle for a traffic stop before 1:30 a.m. The vehicle took off and deputies followed. The driver eventually stopped in a field where he jumped out and tried to run. Officers followed, and he surrendered. Investigators said they found methamphetamine and a gun on the man. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Omaha.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place early Monday morning in Cedar Rapids. Officers were dispatched to a report of a person down in the alley. Officers found a 20-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The injury is considered serious.

BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – A man was stabbed during a fight with another man in Bettendorf Saturday. WQAD-TV reports he was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities say the two men involved knew each other and there is no threat to the public.

MANCHESTER, IA (IRN) – A judge has ordered that bears, mountain lions, a camel, and other exotic animals be removed from an eastern Iowa roadside zoo. KCRG-TV reports a district court judge found the Cricket Hollow Zoo near Manchester to be a nuisance and that the exotic animals at the site must be placed at accredited sanctuaries or zoos.

LUCAS, IA (IRN) – Farmers gathered at the Kendall Brammer farm northwest of Lucas on Monday to help finish harvest. WHO-TV reports Brammer couldn’t finish the harvest, as he is battling cancer. Brammer has Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and has been hospitalized since the first of November.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A 23-year-old Sioux City man has been charged with murder 15 months after the death of his girlfriend’s child. KWWL-TV reports Tayvon Davis is charged with first-degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death and multiple acts of child endangerment. An autopsy showed the girl had several blunt force injuries to her head and a kidney and had suffered fractures to her vertebrae and ribs.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – One person was injured during a home invasion Sunday night, according to KCRG-TV. Five men, some armed with handguns, broke into a woman’s home. One of the males was wearing a black and green camouflage hooded sweatshirt and another was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a red bandanna around his face. The victim was struck and injured during the incident, before the males left in a dark SUV. She was treated for a laceration.

MONTICELLO, IA (IRN) – The body of a missing Monticello man, Jay Hanken, was found Sunday morning in a stretch of Kitty Creek. KGAN-TV reports the location is a remote section of Monticello, not far from Hanken’s residence. A cause of death has not been determined, and no foul play is suspected.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – One person was seriously hurt after being ejected from a vehicle during a car crash on Des Moines’ south side yesterday, according WHO-TV. An adult man was ejected in the crash. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

AMES, IA (IRN) – The second-ranked University of Iowa Wrestling team defeated No. 11 Iowa State, 29-6, on Sunday in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. Iowa won eight-of-10 bouts, and its win was its 16th straight in the series as the Hawkeyes retain possession of the Dan Gable Traveling Trophy for the 10th straight year.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – One man is dead following a crash in Cedar Rapids Saturday night. KWWL-TV reports police attempted to stop a BMW that was driving recklessly. Authorities say the car took off at a high rate of speed, the driver lost control, hit a pole, and was killed.

ANKENY, IA (IRN) – An Ankeny man is in the Polk County Jail on Saturday after police say he sexually abused a relative. KCCI-TV reports Andrew Jon Fisher, 39, was arrested by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of second-degree sex abuse, third-degree sex abuse and incest. The victim is a minor.

HUMBOLDT, IA (IRN) – The Humboldt-Dakota City Chamber of Commerce sent out a letter this week saying the organization would dissolve at the end of the year. The reason is declining membership was making it hard for the organization to function.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Former Iowa Governor and US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and former first lady Christie Vilsack endorsed former Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden at an event in Des Moines yesterday. Biden said it’s Iowa’s “most important” endorsement.
