NEWTON, IA (IRN) – Two Newton men face multiple charges of second-degree sexual abuse. KCCI-TV reports Brothers Shawn and Dustin Cooper are accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl over the course of several months. If convicted, they face more than 25 years in prison.

KOSSUTH COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Algona man is facing numerous charges after authorities say he fired a shotgun in the direction of a peace officer. According KIMT-TV, 32-year-old Allen Larsen is being held in the Kossuth County Jail.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Bettendorf doctor pled guilty in federal court Tuesday to multiple charges. 45-year-old Dr. Paul Bolger prescribed medication to patients he did not know, based solely on internet requests, authorizing nearly 1,400 prescriptions in 16 states where he was not licensed to practice medicine, for a $2.9 million dollar payout.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police have arrested a peeping Tom. WHO-TV reports overnight, an officer responded to a call of suspicious person peeping into windows at a mobile home park. 23-year-old Raudel Alvarez was taken into custody after he was found looking into the windows of a mobile home at two women. He ran but the officer caught him.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (IRN) – The former executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs has pled guilty to identity theft, according to KETV. The FBI says Gina Malloy forged a signature to apply for a $30,000 loan. The loan application was made in the name of Habitat for Humanity. The application required a second signature, and Malloy signed the name of a former board member, and used his Social Security Number and a copy of his driver’s license in the application.

DES MOINES, IA (IA) – State and local leaders agreed to approve $208 million in tax incentives for tech giant Apple to build two Waukee data storage centers, according to KCCI-TV. The data centers will eventually employ about 50 people, which means over $4,000,000 in state and local funds will be used to create each job. Critics say it’s a huge corporate giveaway. Supporters say the taxes eventually generated will be well worth it.

OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Police are investigating the death of a man at an Ottumwa boat ramp Tuesday, according to KTVO-TV. Police found the body of the man, in his mid-50s, inside a vehicle. Officials do not suspect foul play.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police responded to the City Services Center Wednesday after a man entered the Public Works Department building with a shotgun. KGAN-TV reports the suspect, who is a city employee, is in custody. No one was hurt. Police believed he was a danger to himself, but not employees.

LINN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A 37-year-old man died after losing control and crashing his motorcycle Wednesday night in Linn County. KCRG-TV reports the driver lost control, went into a ditch, and rolled the motorcycle. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – The growing number of teens stealing cars and committing more violent crimes in Davenport has Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane asking Iowa legislators to open more beds for teens at the State Training School in Eldora. WQAD-TV reports Lane says the teens are “committing violent crimes, they are shooting at people, they’re killing people.” Lane says what the criminal justice system is doing now isn’t working. He believes more rehabilitation is needed.

LOGAN, IA (IRN) – A former student at Logan-Magnolia High School was arrested Tuesday night for allegedly making terroristic threats during an open house. KETV reports 18-year-old Barret Fields was arrested after making a direct threat against the school in writing. He’s in jail.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and his wife, Mary, will donate $1 million to the University of Iowa’s Children’s Hospital to help researchers working to improve survival rates for premature babies. The donation will fund the Ferentz Program in Neonatal Research. The Ferentz’s are donating the money in honor of their granddaughter, who was born at just 21 weeks old in 2014.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A former Des Moines police officer has been criminally charged in relation to allegations that he planted evidence in a narcotics case in 2015. The Des Moines Register reports 30-year-old Tyson Teut was charged with felonious misconduct in office and perjury. A second officer, Joshua Judge, who was also accused in this case, has not been charged. Teut and Judge resigned from the Des Moines Police Department in December. Both were senior police officers assigned to patrol.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa Republican Party leader who is running for state treasurer has been ordered to stay away from his ex-fiance after tracking her whereabouts using the “Find iPhone” app and allegedly threatening her. KWWL-TV reports a judge has granted a temporary restraining order against former U.S. Army captain John Thompson, a member of the Iowa GOP’s state central committee and currently the only candidate challenging Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald in 2018. Thompson denied wrongdoing, saying the allegations were meant to embarrass him.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Authorities in Des Moines are investigating the city’s 22nd homicide this year after a man was shot at a convenience store last night. When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque woman was killed Tuesday after she was pinned between her lawnmower and air conditioner, according to the Telegraph Herald. Officers say the woman, who was in her 60’s, was mowing when she became trapped.

ELDORA, IA (IRN) – An investigation is underway after Eldora EMS discovered that the group’s supply of Dilaudid, an opioid pain medication, had been partially removed with a syringe and replaced with another substance prior to being given to patients. KCCI-TV reports officials say it is likely someone replaced the stolen pain medication with saline. A federal investigation is underway.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The man who orchestrated one of the biggest lottery fraud cases in U.S. history will spend up to a quarter century in prison. WHO-TV reports Eddie Tipton was handed a 25-year prison sentence Tuesday. Tipton admitted to using his job at the Multi-State Lottery Association to “fix” the Hot Lotto drawings. He and a group of family and friends fraudulently won millions of dollars in drawings across the Midwest.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo convicted sex offender, who was wanted for failing to register, was arrested after he was spotted in Cedar Rapids Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. Investigators say 26-year-old Ladarius Martez Blue was spotted after he stepped outside to view the solar eclipse.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Officials fear hundreds of Iowa students will be barred from classes on the first day of school because the students lack the newly required meningitis vaccination. The Des Moines Register reports that districts have been notifying families for months, and some even set up vaccination clinics to meet rules passed by lawmakers in 2016. Polk County health officials say nearly 1,000 students still lacked the vaccination as of Monday afternoon.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Two teens have been taken into custody in connection with a shots-fired incident Monday in Davenport. Both teens have been identified as street gang members involved in a feud with a rival gang, and both have been charged with criminal gang participation. One girl has been tied to several other shots-fired incidents. She had a 12-gauge shotgun with a shortened barrel in her possession when she was apprehended.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Police have arrested a man for making threats on Twitter saying he would kill Senator Joni Ernst. The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports 33-year-old Joseph Dierks of Waterloo, faces a federal charge of transmitting a threat through interstate commerce. Dierks sent several tweets including one that said, “I just want you to know I’d put a bullet in your head if you were my wife.” He told police he was just joking around.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A commercial building fire turned into an apartment fire on Des Moines’ east side Monday. WHO-TV reports the fire started in a single-story building on East Grand, but spread next door to another commercial building that had two floors of apartments. No one was injured.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The numbers are in and it’s official: the 2017 edition of the Iowa State Fair was the biggest ever in terms of attendance. This year, 1,130,071 made it to the event, breaking the record set in 2015 by approximately 12,000 people. The reason for the increase? Officials say the “great weather.”
