OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Ottumwa murder suspect Kashenna Tucker has asked to be temporarily released from jail, according to KTVO-TV. Tucker is being held on a $500,000 cash bond after being charged with the death of three-year-old Wysdom Evans. Tucker says she is desperate to get out of jail to take care of her two children. She says they aren’t in a safe situation and she needs to be released for 30 to 60 days to find suitable day care. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A woman at the center of a deadly officer-involved shooting in Cedar Rapids is recovering. KCRG-TV reports RaeLynn Finn says she was stabbed a number of times, and suffered a broken jaw and a ruptured eardrum. She says that police had no choice but to kill 25-year-old Markell Bivins, and that they saved her life. Bivins kept stabbing her even after police had put two bullets into him. They then tased him into submission, and he died. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A mobile home was destroyed by fire in Waterloo Friday night, according to KWWL-TV. Neighbors say a woman was able to get out on her own, and two men helped rescue her dog. The dog received oxygen on site and was then taken to a vet. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be related to smoking. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – After a long battle with cancer, 69-year-old Iowa Senator Dr. Joe Seng from Davenport has passed away, according to the Des Moines Register. He represented Davenport and southern Scott County. Seng was known to bring music into sessions to amuse his colleagues. He played the accordion. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The 12th Annual World Food & Music Festival continues on the Court Avenue Bridge in Downtown Des Moines this weekend. Food vendors representing more than 20 countries and culinary regions will be there. Organizers say this is the perfect event for a family on a budget. Each food stand offers a sampling item for $1 and all plates will be $5 or less.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – One of the youngest teenage killers ever sentenced to life in prison for murder in Iowa will someday get a chance at parole. The Iowa Supreme Court overturned Romeo Hardin’s life-without-parole sentence today and ordered a new sentencing hearing. The maximum sentence he will now face is life with the possibility of parole. Hardin was 15 in 1996 when he was charged with fatally shooting 21-year-old Augustas Nance in Davenport. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A survey of Iowa farmland says values have dropped close to 9 percent from where they were a year ago, which experts attribute to declining commodities prices. The surveys were issued by the Iowa Chapter of Realtors Land Institute, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors organized by realtors specializing in farmland sales and appraisal. LEHIGH, IA (IRN) – The mayor and city clerk of the small Webster County city of Lehigh have quit, and another City Council member says she may resign. Former Mayor Paula Martin told the Fort Dodge Messenger she resigned because of issues discussed at a Monday council meeting. She declined to give details, and minutes of the meeting weren’t available. City Clerk Kathy Gambill declined to say why she had given her two-week notice. JASPER COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Search crews have located the body of a Newton man who had been missing since Sunday night. WHO-TV reports 67-year-old Mike McDaniels told family members he was going fishing along the South Skunk River. The body of McDaniels was pulled from the Skunk River near the location of his truck and gear Thursday. The medical examiner is working to determining the cause of death. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A new casino may be in the future for Cedar Rapids. KWWL-TV reports the President of Wild Rose Casinos was in town yesterday speaking with city leaders. This comes after a 2014 proposal for a Cedar Rapids casino was denied by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The commission felt the market was too saturated and imposed a three-year moratorium, which will expire next year. BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – A pair of fast-moving thieves raced through three gyms in Bettendorf and Davenport last week, but not to exercise. WQAD-TV reports the two women cut their way into lockers, stole cash, credit cards, cell phones and car keys. One of them paused to smile at a security camera before fleeing. Authorities believe they are not from the area. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Kirkwood Community College is on the lookout for five cows that escaped from its agricultural facility in Cedar Rapids. KCRG-TV reports the cows got through a broken fence on college property. Kirkwood has hired a ranch hand with hopes of rounding up the cows and herding them home.

UNION COUNTY, SD (IRN) – The body believed to be that of a missing Iowa college student has been recovered from the Missouri River. WHO-TV reports twenty-three-year-old Tom Patterson was out for a swim near Elk Point in South Dakota on September 4th when he went missing. Over a week later, investigators now believe they’ve recovered his body. Patterson was a college student at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – The Sioux City Diocese says five more people have made allegations of years-ago sexual abuse by a now deceased priest. The Sioux City Journal reports that the diocese also confirmed Wednesday that it has reached a settlement with the man who first came forward with allegations against the Rev. Peter Murphy, who served in several northwest Iowa parishes from the 1950s through the 1970s. OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – An online petition is calling for an Iowa judge’s removal after a 19-year-old man was spared jail time after pleading guilty to a child molestation charge. KTVO-TV reports Kraigen Grooms pled guilty to a count of engaging in a lascivious act with a child. He received a 10-year suspended sentence and five years of supervised release. The petition seeks Judge Randy DeGeest’s removal from office. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – One person is dead after a shooting in Davenport last night. WQAD-TV reports police were called to the scene of the shooting, and found a victim with life threatening injuries from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital, where they died. The name of the victim has not been released. WAUKON, IA (IRN) – Waukon police have arrested a suspect after a series of break-ins and vending machine thefts. Police caught 29-year-old Mitchell Halverson of Waukon trying to break into a pop machine on Sunday. They then raided his trailer home, finding other stolen items and drug paraphernalia. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments Wednesday on whether Gov. Terry Branstad had the authority to veto funding for two mental health facilities, according to WHO-TV. Two of the state’s four mental health facilities, the Mount Pleasant and Clarinda locations, were forced to close in 2015 as a result. Some believe a ruling against Branstad could mean the state would be forced to reopen the two facilities. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A new $800,000 plan will update 25 intersections in Des Moines with more modern stoplights that can “see” traffic. KCCI-TV reports the city will use a combination of pavement sensors, cameras and radar to detect traffic. The lights won’t change unless there is cross traffic waiting. The city is also planning to conduct a traffic study to get an idea of how Des Moines will handle self-driving cars in the future.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Two Iowa City men face a number of drug possession charges for selling drugs out of their apartment, according to KCRG-TV. One of the men tried to flush the drugs down the toilet as officers tried to enter the apartment. Lucas Froeschner and Jared Kuddes were arrested after a raid by the Iowa City Police Street Crimes Unit and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement. FRANKFURT, GERMANY (IRN) – German drug and farm chemical company Bayer AG says it has signed a deal to acquire seed and weed-killer company Monsanto for $66 billion in cash. The deal is subject to approval by Monsanto shareholders and anti-trust regulators. Monsanto lists 21 offices in the state of Iowa. OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Wapello County has become the third Iowa county to approve a higher minimum wage. KGAN-TV reports under the plan, on January 1 the county’s minimum wage will rise to $8.20 an hour from the current national minimum of $7.25. Two more incremental increases will bring it to $10.10 on January 1, 2019. BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – A man tried to get a little girl into his truck in Bettendorf. WQAD-TV reports a 12-year-old girl was walking down a sidewalk when a man between 50 and 55 years old pulled up in a purple or plum-colored Ford pickup, pushed open the passenger-side door and said “get in the truck.” She didn’t. She called police instead. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A woman accused of stealing money from a Mason City dental office has pled guilty. 58-year-old Pamela Harris was the office manager of the dental practice and had been employed there for 21 years. She stole nearly $500,000 from the practice by using the dentist’s rubber stamp on checks and by using office credit cards for personal use. She faces up to 20 years in jail. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The number of State Troopers working Iowa’s roadways has fallen dramatically. KCRG-TV reports just 267 troopers are working Iowa’s roads, which is a historic low. In 1998 there were 369 troopers working Iowa’s roadways–over 100 more than now. The dip in troopers comes at a time when fatal crashes in Iowa are surging. Deaths are up 19% from this time last year. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Planning is underway for a new $500 million terminal at the Des Moines International Airport, according to KCCI-TV. Airport general manager Kevin Foley says the airport, which was built in 1948, currently has too many passengers and not enough space. The new terminal would overlap the existing terminal and curve to the northeast. The plan includes 14 gates and a new parking garage.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court won’t take up the appeal of an Oskaloosa mother convicted of killing her daughter, according to KTVO-TV. Alicia Ritenour was convicted of First-Degree Murder in the January 2014 death of Ava Ritenour. Ava was just over a year old when she died from multiple fractures of the skull. The Supreme Court’s refusal to hear the case likely means the end of the appeals process for Ritenour. She is serving a life sentence. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A motorcycle rider has died after a crash Monday afternoon in Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports a southbound passenger car driven by 18-year-old Sergio Ancona III attempted to make an eastbound turn when a northbound motorcycle ridden by 52-year-old Michael Murrell crashed into the side of Ancona’s car. Murrell died as a result of the crash. He wasn’t wearing a helmet. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump narrowly leads Democrat Hillary Clinton in Iowa, according to a new poll by Simpson College. This statewide poll shows if the election were held today only among Trump and Clinton, 43 percent of Iowans would vote for Trump and 42 percent would vote for Clinton. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An officer-involved shooting in Cedar Rapids has left a suspect dead, according to KCRG-TV. Police were called to Valley High Apartments last night for a domestic disturbance. A 25-year-old man was shot and killed by police. Names of those involved have not been released. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A Mason City mother has been arrested for allegedly forcing her children to sleep in a room that had human feces on the walls and floor, according to KIMT-TV. Alexis Martinez is accused of making the children, all four years old or younger, sleep in the room for approximately one week. The children were placed in the room and the door was locked from the outside. CARROLL, IA (IRN) – The Carroll High School football team is under investigation after some players used gay slurs against another student. KCCI-TV reports the players were in a group chat and were upset that the gay student was voted to the homecoming court. One player’s text said the gay student should kill himself. Another said he would drop out if the gay student stayed on the homecoming court. The superintendent says the players regret what he calls a stupid mistake. The gay student says it’s a teachable moment. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Funding has been secured to finish work on a huge piece of stalled construction in downtown Des Moines. WHO-TV reports construction will start soon on the long-stalled aquatic center at the Wellmark YMCA. It will have an Olympic-size pool, and the total cost of the project comes in at roughly $10 million.
