WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – The Waterloo Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide at George Wyth State Park. They were called to the park on Saturday morning for a report of a man’s body found by the lake. Shortly after they arrived, they found a woman’s body in a vehicle in the parking lot. It appears they were husband and wife.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Two men are okay after their truck slid off the road into the water near Ellis Harbor in Cedar Rapids. KGAN-TV reports the Chevy Silverado lost control and slid into Robbins Lake. Both men were able to escape without injury.

LINCOLN, NE (IRN) – An Iowa woman has died after being hit by a vehicle in southeast Nebraska. KCCI-TV reports 19-year-old Merzedes Hart of Council Bluffs was walking Friday night near Waverly, Nebraska when she was hit by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle left the scene after hitting Hart, but it and the driver were soon located.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – A man was killed when his vehicle was struck by a train Saturday night in Marshalltown. WHO-TV reports 63-year-old Kyle Quick was driving across the tracks when he was hit by the oncoming train.

JANESVILLE, IA (IRN) – A Janesville man is dead after colliding with a tractor about two miles south of Janesville Saturday. The Iowa State Patrol reports 56-year-old Gene Turner collided with a tractor which was backing into a residential drive. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.

THE AMERICAN MIDWEST (IRN) – The Midwest is taking the brunt of winter storm Jupiter, which has killed at least six people. States of emergency have been declared in Oklahoma and Missouri, where flights have been cancelled and thick ice is expected to last for days. Much of Iowa is covered with ice, and travel is not recommended.

NEVADA, IA (IRN) – A Nevada man already in the Story County Jail for impersonating a public official on three different occasions is piling up more charges as he sits behind bars. KCCI-TV reports during a traffic stop 27-year-old Richard Stinson told an officer he had blue lights on his vehicle because he was a firefighter. Other reports are surfacing where Stinson claimed to be an undercover officer, a firefighter, and an Army investigator.

DURANT, IA (IRN) – A man was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing a Casey’s General Store in Durant at gunpoint Saturday, according to WQAD-TV. No one was hurt.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo police officer charged in connection with a road rage incident has been acquitted of assault. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports a jury took less than four hours Friday to find 45-year-old Lt. Corbin Payne not guilty of roughing up a delivery driver while he was off-duty. At trial, Payne’s attorney painted a picture of the other man as a habitually aggressive driver who started the altercation by cursing at Payne.

IOWA (IRN) – Meteorologists continue to track a strong winter storm that is likely to impact much of Iowa beginning this afternoon. Light snow and a wintry mix is possible initially, but will transition over to mainly freezing rain across much of the state. The most impactful weather is likely late Sunday night into the morning hours Monday, where significant amounts of freezing rain are possible, resulting in a very difficult Monday morning commute.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An armed robbery took place shortly after midnight this morning in Iowa City, according to KCRG-TV. Authorities found the people matching the description, but they fled. After a foot chase, police were able to arrest a 16-year-old girl. She faces numerous charges. The other suspects were able to get away.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A West Des Moines man handling a gun in his basement accidentally discharged the weapon, and the bullet went through the ceiling wounding his mother who was lying in bed. KCCI-TV reports 21-year-old Gage Mauk has been charged with the reckless use of a firearm causing injury as well as several narcotics charges.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An audit of Des Moines Roosevelt High School’s basketball program has raised questions about the school’s fundraising methods. WHO-TV reports an investigation of the girls’ basketball program and the activities department determined that some financial transactions were not properly deposited. Two non-district bank accounts were administered by employees in violation of the district’s policy. The two accounts total more than $1.8 million.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police arrested two people protesting at Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley’s Des Moines office on Friday. The group Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement says police arrested its Executive Director, Hugh Espey. They also arrested Reddit Hudson, the regional Director of the NAACP. They were protesting the nomination of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The ACLU is calling on Iowa City to remove security cameras that record inside the bathrooms of its popular downtown public library. KCRG-TV reports the civil liberties organization says the cameras that record common areas of the restrooms raise serious privacy concerns. They say the library should use less intrusive methods to prevent theft.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A 66-year-old man is now recovering after crashing his car into a Cedar Rapids home. KCRG-TV reports the man’s 2015 Chevrolet Cruze left the roadway, went through a field, and then went airborne into the back of a manufactured home. A person inside the home wasn’t injured. The driver suffered from an apparent medical problem.

MUSCATINE, IA (IRN) – The Muscatine City Council has unanimously approved impeachment proceedings against the city’s mayor, accusing her of misconduct, neglect and making disparaging comments toward city employees. The Muscatine Journal reports Mayor Diana Broderson denies the allegations, as well as additional allegations regarding the mismanagement of cash.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The body of a missing Des Moines woman has been found. KCCI-TV reports 49-year-old Gloria Gary disappeared last Thursday, and her car was located in Utah yesterday. Police acted on a tip from Utah law enforcement and searched a Des Moines residence where they found a body. They have not made a positive identification yet, but believe it’s Gary. 22-year-old Kyle Jepson, of Des Moines, is facing charges.

CLINTON, IA (IRN) – The Clinton Walmart was locked down briefly yesterday while law enforcement pursued a man on the run. WQAD-TV reports a chase started at the Wild Rose Casino when DCI agents were trying to arrest 35-year-old Jacob Dau on felony warrants. He ran through a cemetery into the Walmart, where he was apprehended.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The state could soon require teachers to include Iowa history lessons in their classrooms, according to KCRG-TV. State leaders are considering adopting a proposal aimed at creating social studies standards in Iowa. The proposal is in a draft phase, and a recommendation is expected to go to the state board of education this spring.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Des Moines International Airport has a new addition geared towards new mothers, according to WHO-TV. The Nursing and Pumping Pod, located just past security in the terminal, is the product of a partnership between the airport and UnityPoint Health. While the airport is not officially keeping track of use of the pod, a spokesperson says it has already been used several times since its installation Tuesday.
