FOREST CITY, IA (IRN) – An Albert Lea man has pled not guilty to accusations he had sex with a 13-year-old girl in Lake Mills, according to KIMT-TV. 27-year-old Jamie John Kujak is charged with three counts of 3rd degree sex abuse and one count of lascivious acts with a child. He says he’s not guilty. LANSING, IA (IRN) – A northeast Iowa town will lose dozens of jobs with the closing of a button factory, according to KCCI-TV. Workers were told Wednesday that the Blumenthal Lansing Company facility in Lansing would be closing in phases that will be completed by mid-July. Lansing Mayor Mike Brennan says the company employs about 70 people. He says he was told the company was closing because better access to major highways was needed. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – The parents of a 3-year-old Dubuque boy who shot himself in the face have pled guilty in federal court, according to KWWL-TV. Twenty-five-year-old Raven Harris and 29-year-old Willie Horsley Sr. each were charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. The little boy, Jeremiah Horsley, was playing with the .45-caliber handgun when it went off. His parents have pled not guilty to charges of child endangerment and other charges. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Sentencing has been scheduled for June 7 for a 19-year-old convicted in the slaying of an Illinois man in Des Moines. The Des Moines Register reports that Keith Collins was found guilty of first-degree murder. He was convicted in the 2014 shooting death of 24-year-old Aaron McHenry, of Rockford, Illinois. Police say the shooting likely involved a drug deal. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The man who committed the double murder at the Drake Diner in 1992 could be released from prison on parole, according to WHO-TV. Joseph “Jo-Jo” White gunned down two people in the diner in front of dozens of patrons. White was 17-years-old when he was sentenced to life behind bars, but a 2012 Supreme Court ruling banned mandatory life-without-parole sentences for anyone under the age of 18. White’s re-sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 17. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State University police are searching for five men who burglarized an Ames apartment Thursday afternoon. KCCI–TV reports five men entered the apartment, held a gun on the occupants, and told them to get on the ground. The thieves then stole cash and a phone before fleeing. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Davenport police are looking for a white Mercedes Benz after a bicyclist was hurt in a hit and run crash, according to WQAD-TV. Police say a 56-year-old man was riding a bike and was hurt in the hit and run. He was taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to Iowa City where he was treated for serious injuries. Police say the vehicle will have passenger side damage. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – An eastern Iowa man is worried about his job, his freedom and his future. KWWL-TV reports T.J. Cassidy was shot in the neck and spine when he was 18, and it left him mostly paralyzed from the neck down. He lives on his own in Iowa City and has a job, but he recently received an email from his former in-home care agency saying they will no longer be able to continue caring for him because the privatization of Medicaid in Iowa has lowered reimbursement rates and led to a shortage of staff.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – A Clinton man accused of trying to kill his girlfriend has been arrested in Iowa City, according to KWWL-TV. Clinton Police say Edgar Gonzalez Peralta faces charges for Attempted Murder. Police were called to a home in Clinton for a bleeding woman in a backyard. The victim had stab wounds to her chest and throat. After Peralta attacked her, he drove to the Highway 30 Bridge and jumped into the water. BOONE, IA (IRN) – Boone police say they’ve arrested five people in connection with a forgery case that stretches across three states. KCCI-TV reports the investigation started Feb. 1 with a forgery complaint. U.S. Postal inspectors got involved with the case, and the arrests began Tuesday. This is a multi-state case, with connections to Nebraska and Colorado. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo man has been arrested after neighbors say they saw him beating a dog with a belt, according to KWWL-TV. Animal control says the dog may now lose her eye. Race Byrd Jr. is facing animal torture charges, after neighbors say they heard the pitbull mix yelping from inside his home. Court documents say there was blood on the wall next to the dog’s kennel. Byrd is in jail. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating an early morning stabbing where a man allegedly stabbed his brother. WHO-TV reports 22-year-old Paul Palmer was arrested in connection with the stabbing. His brother is expected to survive. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A brief pursuit ended in two arrests and the confiscation of handguns in Davenport Wednesday, according to WQAD-TV. Police say they received a call of a man pointing a gun at someone. The man got into a car and fled from police. The chase ended when two people got out of the car and fled on foot before being arrested. The two men face charges of being felons in possession of firearms and assaulting an officer among other charges. One policeman suffered a shoulder injury during the arrest. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Linn County correctional center inmate who failed to return to the center Tuesday is back in jail Wednesday. KCRG-TV reports Joshua Jason Smith failed to return after being released on a court ordered furlough. Deputies arrested him Wednesday morning in Cedar Rapids. Smith was serving time for revocation of pretrial release. He now faces an escape charge. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Republican-controlled Iowa House has passed a health and human services bill for the next budget that would remove state funding for Planned Parenthood. KCCI-TV reports the legislation is expected to hit roadblocks in the Democratic-majority Senate over a proposal to remove Medicaid funding for family planning facilities that provide abortions. Medicaid funding isn’t used for abortions in Iowa. AMES, IA (IRN) – An employee at a Hy-Vee store in Ames, Carie Hasselman was told by her boss to help a “customer” in the back of the store, according to WHO-TV. When she walked around the corner, she realized the customer was her own daughter, Antonia Koenigsdorf, who had just come home early from a military deployment in Jordan. Later in the morning, Koenigsdorf surprised her daughter at Ballard’s West Elementary School.

TAMA, IA (IRN) – A 22-year-old Iowa man was killed in a work accident at a beef processing plant in Tama Wednesday, according to KCRG-TV. Tama police say they were called to the Iowa Premium Beef plant, and when officers and firefighters arrived, they found the man caught in machinery. He died before rescuers arrived. Police have not yet released the man’s identity pending notification of his family. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – Two armed robberies within a week of each other led to the arrest of a Burlington woman, according to WQAD-TV. Police say 28-year-old Emiley Kristina Devore has been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree robbery. She allegedly showed a knife and demanded cash at a gas station, and implied she had a gun during a robbery at a convenience store. Both robberies were earlier this month. PITTSBURGH, PA (IRN) – Trial opens next month for a man charged in the western Pennsylvania robbery and murder of two sisters of an Iowa state lawmaker two years ago. KGAN-TV reports jury selection was completed Monday for the trial of 45-year-old Allen Wade. Authorities allege that Wade, who lived next door, killed Sarah Wolfe after she returned home to find Susan Wolfe already slain. The women were the sisters of Democratic Iowa state Rep. Mary Wolfe. COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA – A motorcyclist died Tuesday night after attempting to flee a traffic stop in Council Bluffs, according to KETV. The accident happened after an officer attempted to stop two motorcycles. Both motorcycles sped away and the driver of a 2006 Yamaha lost control, struck a fence, and was killed. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle while the second motorcycle escaped. Police say the dead motorcyclist had no identification and was driving a stolen motorcycle. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A man was killed in a mobile home fire in Davenport on Monday, according to WQAD-TV. The mobile home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, and firefighters were told someone might be inside the home. The body of 50-year-old Anthony Shelton was found inside after the fire was extinguished. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Three good Samaritans helped pull an elderly man with disabilities out of a apartment unit moments after an explosion in Cedar Rapids Tuesday. KCRG-TV reports first responders took the man to the University of Iowa hospitals with serious injuries. Broken glass and charred walls are all that’s left of the apartment, and one wall was blown out. Authorities are investigating. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Polk County Board of Supervisors is considering raising the minimum wage, according to KCCI-TV. Iowa’s minimum wage is $7.25, and has not increased in over eight years. Polk County officials says that is too long. John Barnett, owner of I Work & Play, a uniforms shop in West Des Moines pays his employees more than the minimum wage. Barnett believes better wages help retain employees and award good work ethics. He says if he can do it, so can national chain stores. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A high speed chase ended Tuesday in Waterloo with a driver in jail and a car stuck into the side of a house. KWWL-TV reports two young brothers were inside the house at the time playing games when the car entered their nine-year-old sister’s unoccupied bedroom. The driver has been identified as 24-year-old Montavis Keller. He suffered minor injuries and tried to run. However, his pants fell down around his ankles and he was easily captured by police. He’s in jail.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A semi carrying about 170 pigs tipped over Tuesday morning in Des Moines. The semi was southbound on I-35 when the driver tried to merge onto Highway 30 and lost control of his truck tipping it. Investigators say it may be due to the animals shifting in the trailer. Three pigs escaped. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police were called to robbery at Financial Plus Credit Union early Tuesday morning. KCCI-TV reports a teller reported the robbery before the business opened. According to police, an armed man wearing a Halloween mask confronted an employee and left the credit union with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police were at a second scene in a nearby neighborhood after tracking footprints with a K-9 unit. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids police arrested a man early Tuesday morning for throwing rocks and breaking windows at several buildings. KCRG-TV reports that includes the Cedar Rapids Public Library, Ground Transportation Center and the Veterans Assistance Outreach. Police arrested 43-year-old Michael Whitehorn shortly after the first calls started coming in. KOSSUTH COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Two Iowans died after their vehicle was involved in a crash in Kossuth County. The Iowa State Patrol says the vehicle was heading westbound on Highway 18 when the driver approached an intersection, crossed the centerline, and went into a ditch. The vehicle then went up an embankment and went airborne, hitting a power pole. The driver, 63-year-old Harry Fraker and a passenger, 65-year-old David Ludwig, both of Algona, died from their injuries. Both men were wearing seat belts. WILLIAMSBURG, IA (IRN) – Iowa farm equipment maker Kinze Manufacturing says it will lay off 121 workers as low grain prices have slowed farmer purchases. The Des Moines Register reports the Williamsburg-based company announced Monday that office and factory worker cuts will be effective June 18. Kinze also cut 215 workers last June citing slowed business and the farm downturn. The eastern Iowa company makes planters and grain carts. WINNESHIEK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One of Iowa’s smallest school districts will close its doors for good in just three years, according to KCRG-TV. The North Winneshiek Schools will consolidate with Decorah Schools after the spring of 2019. There are now only 126 students in the school system, down from more than 600 in the 1970’s. There will be only six students in next year’s kindergarten class. WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TN (IRN) – An Iowa Olympian has said “I do” to an NFL player. WHO-TV reports West Des Moines-native and Olympian Shawn Johnson tied the knot this weekend to Oakland Raiders player Andrew East. The two said “I do” Saturday in Williamson County in Tennessee, where East is from. The couple got engaged last July on Wrigley Field before a Cubs game. Johnson took home the gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The two now live in Nashville.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Former Iowa State basketball star Nikki Moody is suing coach Bill Fennelly, the university, and the state for racial discrimination and retaliation, according to KCCI-TV. A lawsuit in state district court says that Fennelly, who has been Iowa State’s coach since 1995, constantly demeaned, berated, harassed and discriminated against Moody, who is black. The University has no comment. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Police are investigating a shooting in southeast Cedar Rapids this afternoon that wounded at least one person. KCRG-TV reports that person was hospitalized. An investigation is underway. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A police chase ended in Cedar Falls when a motorcycle ran into the back of an Iowa State Patrol cruiser. KWWL-TV reports the incident happened Saturday when a motorcyclist didn’t stop as patrol officers tried to pull him over for an expired registration. The chase started in Waterloo and reached speeds of more than 100 mph. The man was taken to a hospital. Charges are pending. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Authorities are looking for a 42-year-old woman who didn’t return to a work release program in Waterloo after a furlough. KGAN-TV reports Shannon VanArsdale failed to return to the facility on Saturday. Since 2004, VanArsdale has been serving a 30-year sentence for burglary, assault on a police officer, possessing drugs and escape. She has been in the work release program since February. BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – A child is in the hospital after a dog attack near Burlington. WQAD-TV reports a four-year old was attacked by four dogs. The child was taken to a nearby hospital but later airlifted to Iowa City. The child is in critical but stable condition. Police are investigating. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A nurse at a Des Moines care facility is facing charges after being accused of having an intimate relationship with a mentally vulnerable patient. KCCI-TV reports 56-year-old Samuel Fristo was arrested and charged Friday with dependent adult abuse. The two met at Union Park Health Services, a senior living center. The 55-year-old victim told another caregiver about her relationship with Fristo, and that caregiver reported the crime. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police in Des Moines are investigating an armed robbery at a Hy-Vee store in the southern part of the city. WHO-TV reports the suspect approached a clerk at the customer service counter, displayed a gun and demanded money. The suspect escaped with the money in a black Chevy Avalanche. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Drake students walked over 30 miles from Drake University to ISU in Ames on Sunday. WOI-TV reports the walk was to raise money and awareness for Ethiopian refugees. Proceeds will be used to buy books for refugee children. 34 students started the walk and 17 were able to make it the full distance.
