HAMPTON, IA (IRN) – An eight year old was killed and five people were injured in an accident on Interstate 35 Saturday morning. The Iowa State Patrol reports the crash happened east of the Wright County community of Dows and southwest of Hampton. A 2003 Cadillac was struck from behind by a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner. The Cadillac was driving slow because of mechanical problems. Names are being withheld pending notification of family. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – One man has been shot dead, another is in police custody after a family feud apparently went wrong in Waterloo. KWWL-TV reports Steve Fordyce, 37, has been charged with first degree murder. The victim’s name not been released. The heated dispute between two families has been going on for almost two years. What was the argument about this time? Trash. DES MOINES (IRN) – Des Moines police are looking for two suspects following a stabbing near a McDonalds on the city’s east side, according to WHO-TV. Police say the victim told them a white man stabbed him in the back Friday night, before running away from the scene with another suspect. Officers found a large kitchen knife near the McDonalds. DES MOINES (IRN) – A group of organ transplant recipients are celebrating a milestone at the Iowa State Fair this weekend. KCCI-TV reports the University of Iowa Organ Transplant Center has marked its 5,000th organ transplant. Recipients shared their stories, and scars, from a booth at the fair. There’s still work left to be done. Hospital officials said there are still more than 600 patients in Iowa on transplant waiting lists.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A minivan driver died in a head-on-crash with a semi on Interstate 280 in Davenport on Friday. WQAD-TV reports the eastbound minivan crossed the center lane and struck a semi heading westbound. The minivan driver died in the crash and the semi driver was treated for non life-threatening injuries. Names have not been released. TAMA COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A crash in Tama County has taken the lives of four people. The Iowa State Patrol reports a 2014 Kenworth semi driven by Max Gauch, 54, of Baxter entered a controlled intersection just north of Belle Plaine without stopping, t-boning a 2004 Chevy Impala. A couple from Memphis, Missouri, and a couple from San Antonio, Texas in the Impala were killed. DES MOINES (IRN) – A man died in a car accident in Des Moines Friday morning.  WHO-TV reports the accident happened near Broadlawns Hospital when the driver of a van was trying to make a turn, while the other vehicle was trying to merge into traffic. 46-year-old Thomas Heckinger of Des Moines died as a result of his injuries. The other driver, 48-year-old Teresa Sagastume, was treated and released from a local hospital. DENISON, IA (IRN) – 400 employees arriving at the Tyson Fresh Meats beef slaughter plant in Denison on Friday learned the factory was closing for good that day, leaving them unemployed. The Sioux City Journal reports Tyson, the largest U.S. producer of beef, blamed the shutdown on too few cattle and too much slaughter capacity in the region. The plant opened in 1961. DES MOINES (IRN) – MidAmerican Energy has announced it will convert more than 100,000 street lights in Iowa to LED lights. MidAmerican hopes to increase energy efficiency while saving costs. KCCI-TV reports crews started replacing streetlights with LED lights last month, and full replacement will take 10 years. LED lights use 50% less energy.

COLWELL, IA (IRN) – A young boy was flown to the hospital after a farm accident near the northeastern Iowa town of Colwell.  The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports a Mennonite family was bailing hay Thursday when a load on a wagon shifted, knocking the boy off. He was also run over by the wagon. His name and condition have not been released. AUSTIN, TX (IRN) – The suspect wanted in connection with a vehicle arson at the Texas State Capitol on August 7 was arrested Wednesday in Iowa. KTVT Dallas reports Michael Patrick Wagner, a 38-year-old resident of Iowa, was arrested by the Marion Police Department for an unrelated charge. Texas Rangers are on their way to pick up Wagner. DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A Davenport man woke up to the sound of a vehicle crashing into his home early Friday morning.  KWQC-TV reports a vehicle slammed into the house about 3 a.m. The homeowner says it’s the fourth time his house has been hit. He says the vehicle drove away in a hurry, leaving behind the front grill. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A nursing home chain that operates facilities in Northwest Iowa has agreed to pay more than $415,000 to resolve allegations of inaccurate reports for Medicaid payments. The Sioux City Journal reports Signature Care Centers of Johnston reached the agreement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The company admitted no liability or wrongdoing. The government did not allege any patient harm or jeopardy to patients’ conditions. KENSETT, IA (IRN) – A driver was killed in a rollover crash after having a tire blow out Thursday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.  The 1999 Mazda was southbound on Highway  65 north of Mason City when it had a tire blowout and the driver lost control. Teresa Brevig, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kenneth Brevig, 57, was transported by helicopter. INDIANOLA, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a 20-year-old man Thursday in connection to a sexual assault at a church youth camp in rural Indianola. Asa Bruss has been charged with four counts of third-degree sexual abuse. An 18-year-old female counselor at Wesley Woods Camp and Retreat Center told investigators that a fellow counselor sexually abused her at the camp. DES MOINES (IRN) – Iowa received a $3 million federal grant to help up to 650 laid-off John Deere workers retrain for new jobs. The Des Moines Register reports Iowa Workforce Development will open a transition center for laid-off Deere workers at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Since last year, John Deere has laid off 1,300 workers because of slumping farm equipment demand, given declining corn and soybean prices. HIAWATHA, IA (IRN) – GoDaddy.com is eyeing a $6 million expansion and renovation of its Hiawatha facility, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. GoDaddy Iowa offers customer care, small business consulting, engineering, development and marketing. GoDaddy employs 700 people in Hiawatha. The company said the expansion could create another 130 jobs over the next three years.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA (IRN) – Vandals caused $13,000 in damage to a golf course in Council Bluffs, and one of the them got caught after trying to return the pins. KETV reports 4 teens took four-wheelers on the course at Bent Tree Golf Club. They are charged with criminal mischief. DES MOINES (IRN) – A Des Moines homeowner reported a burglar took thousands of dollars in appliances and items from her home while she was gone on vacation. The entire home was ransacked, and nearly everything of value in the home was taken–including the security system. The loss is estimated at more than $23,000. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – A former manager at a Cedar Falls hotel has been arrested for allegedly stealing from the business. The Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports Autumn Joy Wildebour, 33, of Reinbeck has been charged with second-degree theft. Wildebour was general manager at the Super 8 Hotel, when corporate officials noticed problems with the hotel’s books. Wildebour admitted to keeping cash transactions estimated to be over $4,000. SAC CITY, IA (IRN) – A pilot who crash-landed his crop duster in a corn field walked away without any injuries. KCAU-TV reports Randall Lloyd 50, of Alta took off from the Sac City airport on Wednesday. Shortly after takeoff, Lloyd began experiencing engine troubles. He turned his plane around to head back to the airport, but ended up having to crash-land. INDIANOLA, IA (IRN) – A woman and a child were killed in a crash involving a motorhome and an SUV Wednesday morning south of Indianola. The Iowa State Patrol reports the motorhome pulling a trailer ran a stop sign and hit the SUV.  SUV occupants killed in the crash were Eric Fuller, 9, from the southern Iowa town of Kellerton, and Karla Handy, 72, of Indianola. Three others were injured. CEDAR FALLS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Falls Police have arrested a Waterloo man who is accused of sending obscene photographs to a 14-year-old girl.  KWWL-TV reports Michael Verlyn Bohle, 22, of Waterloo was arrested on Friday. Bohle allegedly met the girl through a mutual friend on social media. Knowing she was 14, he still corresponded with her and sent her obscene photos. The girl’s parents contacted the Cedar Falls Police Department. FREDERICKSBURG, IA (IRN) – A man from the northern Iowa town of Fredericksburg has been charged with kidnapping.  KIMT-TV reports law enforcement responded to an emergency call at a home in Fredericksburg, and when they arrived, they found that a domestic dispute was taking place between Landon and Mindy Riley, both 35 years old.  A short standoff happened with Landon, and he was eventually arrested.  He is being held in the Chickasaw County Jail. LE CLAIRE, IA (IRN) – The former president of the eastern Iowa town of Le Claire’s Firefighter’s Association has been charged with second degree theft. Shawn Ream of Le Claire has been arrested after an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Le Claire Police Department into a string of suspicious financial transactions.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque man pled guilty Tuesday to a federal charge for allegedly threatening his girlfriend and her son with a gun. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that Robert Drafahl, 46, faces up to 10 years in prison. Drafahl was previously convicted of a felony in 1988. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – Layoffs have begun at the Kraft Foods plant in Mason City. KIMT-TV reports Kraft employees have been receiving emails saying they are losing their jobs.  A Kraft spokesperson says they are in the process of eliminating 2,500 positions across the U.S. and Canada.   SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A man has been placed on three years probation and ordered to spend 15 weekends in jail for helping his son avoid arrest after shooting a Sioux City police officer. KCCI-TV reports Levon Dean Sr., 55, and several others were sentenced for their roles in aiding Jamal Dean to avoid arrest. Jamal Dean shot a Sioux City police officer during a traffic stop in 2013. He’s serving 25 years in prison for attempted murder. DES MOINES (IRN) – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says it completed several raids in the Des Moines area early Wednesday morning and say they were successful.  WHO-TV reports a months-long investigation led to half a dozen raids in Des Moines and the surrounding metro. The ATF says they were executing search warrants related to guns and drugs. FARGO, N.D. (IRN) – An Iowa man accused of robbing a downtown Fargo, N.D. motel at gunpoint has pled not guilty in federal court. KCCI-TV reports Eric Webb, 30, of Cedar Rapids, is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Webb was shot by a Fargo police officer shortly after the June 4 holdup. CRESCO, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has cited Donald Burnikel, a Howard County supervisor, for allegedly shooting a red-tailed hawk. Burnikel is accused of killing a protected non-game species. According to witnesses, Burnikel shot the bird with a handgun in the backyard of a home in Cresco. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The city of Cedar Rapids has announced a microloan program for small businesses, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. City officials say microloans as small as $1,000 can help turn an idea into a business. A total of $75,000 has been made available for the program. Recipients will pay 4 percent interest and must repay the loan in three years. DES MOINES (IRN) – One of the headlining acts at the Iowa State Fair’s grandstand has cancelled her tour because of vocal health issues. WHO-TV reports Meghan Trainor called off her remaining tour dates because of a hemorrhaged vocal cord. The ‘All About That Bass’ singer was set to perform at the grandstand on the final Saturday of the fair.
