SIOUX COUNTY – A case of the bird flu has been found in another diary herd, this time in Sioux County. The Iowa Department of Agriculture and USDA announced Friday that a case of  Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza was detected two days after it was found in O’Brien County, according to KCAU. The state department is starting to use extra measures as it prepares for a possible outbreak and impacts on cattle-related industries. DES MOINES – A woman shot in a Des Moines park this past Sunday has died. WHO-13 reports that Courtany Mundy-Gonzalez was found suffering from a gunshot wound following a reported shooting in Ashworth Park. Police say she died from her injuries on Friday. No details about potential suspects have been released. CEDAR RAPIDS – The man found responsible for the stabbing death of a woman outside of a Cedar Rapids apartment building was sentenced Friday. KCRG-TV reports Shane Teslik received 10 years of prison time after he was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in 2023. Police say Teslik stabbed Devonna Walker after a conflict had escalated in Cedar Rapids. Attorneys for Teslik claimed the act was in self defense, but prosecutors believed he provoked Walker by using racial slurs.

MARION – An Iowa man admitted to police that he killed three people Wednesday in Linn County. KCCI-TV reports deputies responded to a call this week where they found three people dead from blunt force injuries, with a fourth person in critical condition. Thirty-four year old Luke Truesdell of Marion was found on the property and admitted to police he was responsible for the incidents and had used a metal pipe. He’s charged with three counts of First Degree Murder and one count of attempted murder. Romondus Lamar Cooper of Cedar Rapids, Keonna Victoria Ryan of Cedar Rapids, and Amanda Sue Parker of Vinton died in the attack. IOWA – An examination by State Auditor Rob Sand found issues with the bookkeeping in three Iowa towns over a two-year span. The Des Moines Register reports Doris Loy was the city clerk in Lorimor, Woodburn, and Patterson, someone who resident complained had been let go from several jobs but never charged. Sand made a recommendation to Union County attorneys to explore charges, as his team found Loy was overpaid overtime, vacation, and sick leave. IOWA – Some residents and businesses have been without phone and internet services for a week after a water pipe burst in a downtown Des Moines building. WHO-13 reports some residents in the metro are still struggling to have needed infrastructure fixed by Lumen. The company claims they are still working to resolve a small number of issues that arose from the damage suffered last week.

NEOLA – A toddler was killed at a Kum and Go parking lot in Neola on Wednesday afternoon. The Iowa State Patrol reports the child from Omaha ran in front of a Chevy Equinox driven by Rebecca Wood of Walnut. Police say Wood was driving slowly past the fuel pumps and could not see the 2-year-old, who was pronounced dead from injuries at a nearby hospital. CRAWFORD COUNTY – One person died and four others were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 30 in Crawford County Tuesday evening. The Iowa State Patrol reports a Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 23-year-old Brent Robert Dale Stephan of Oklahoma was traveling eastbound and lost control, striking a 2016 Chevy Suburban in the westbound lane. Thirty-five-year old Cory Robert Bear was a passenger in the Pontiac and died from his injuries. The other four occupants of both vehicles were seriously injured — three of whom were transported by Life Flight. WASHINGTON D.C. –  Iowa Workforce Development Executive Director Beth Townsend testified yesterday in front of the U.S. House Committee on Ways and Means, Subcommittee on Work and Welfare, focusing on Iowa’s approach to reemployment. The topic of Director Townsend’s testimony was Iowa’s Reemployment Case Management program, which Governor Kim Reynolds directed the department to create in response to a severe worker shortage that was intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic.

ANAMOSA – The man who shot and killed a grocery store worker in Monticello was sentenced Tuesday. KCRG-TV reports Nathan Russell will spend his life in prison after pleading guilty to first degree murder, against the advice of attorneys. On November 7th, 2023, Russell shot and killed 48-year-old Aaron McAtee outside of the Fareway where he worked. The hearing on Tuesday was a combined plea and sentencing. WATERLOO – Another round of layoffs is impacting John Deere. Earlier this week, KWWL-TV reported the farm manufacturer was set to potentially lay off several workers from its Dubuque plant; instead, 123 jobs were cut in Urbandale, Waterloo, and Ankeny. There have been more than 500 layoffs reported in 2024 at the Waterloo site alone. DES MOINES – Several days after a water pipe knocked out communications statewide, some residents and Des Moines business owners remain without service. WHO-13 reports city leaders have received multiple complaints over a lack of communication from internet and phone providers connected to damage done at the Lumen building last week. CenturyLink leadership claims they are still working to finish connecting remaining customers impacted, but did not disclose how many remained without phone or internet.

MARSHALLTOWN – Marshalltown police are searching for a suspect they believe is responsible for the death of a 41-year-old over the weekend. Officers are seeking the whereabouts of 18-year-old Victor Antonio Delgadillo, who is accused of first degree murder and harassment. He is believed to be armed and dangerous. Police say Delgadillo killed Ramon Alexis Feliciano Nieves early Saturday morning. IOWA – John Deere has laid off more than 600 workers this year, and more are likely, according to a KWWL report. The manufacturer is purchasing land in Mexico for a new production plant, moving some of their current operations from Dubuque across the southern border. The company claims the move is best for efficiency and workforce. The move is expected in 2026. CEDAR RAPIDS – A Cedar Rapids man will spend 50 years in prison for the murder of his mother. KCRG-TV reports a Linn County Judge ruled George Deason was guilty for 2nd degree murder earlier this year for the 2020 death of Elsie Deason, as investigators believe George severely beat the woman and caused the injuries that led to her death. Deason will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
