IOWA – Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for four counties in response to severe weather that occurred on May 6. The governor’s proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program for the following counties: Clarke, Marion, O’Brien, and Pottawattamie. The Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program provides grants of up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Grants are available for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. Original receipts are required for those seeking reimbursement for actual expenses related to storm recovery. The grant application and instructions are available on the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website. COUNCIL BLUFFS – Police are investigating skeletal remains found Wednesday morning. KETV reports officers responded to a scene in Council Bluffs where the discovery occurred. The Council Bluffs Police Department says what they found was so far decayed it was impossible to identify anything by eye. The remains will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, but results could take weeks. GLENWOOD – Remaining residents living in the Glenwood Resource Center will be moved out by the end of June. The Des Moines Register reports more than 200 employees still working at the facility will be laid off. The space is one of two state-run institutions for those with severe intellectual disabilities. Iowa’s Department of Health and Human Services claims they have placement set up for the 28 residents left in the space. The announcement comes after a series of scandals at the facility led to the departure of state officials.
