DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police say an 11-year-old girl who went missing over the weekend has been found. Authorities said Maleyja Pender has been located and is “healthy and well.” DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Ames man has been arrested after he attacked a woman in Des Moines, and was found to have a warrant out for murder. When first responders arrived, a woman was found with multiple injuries to her face. A K-9 found Richard George Fleck hiding in a tree. Police took him into custody and found he was wanted for the murder of an Ames woman. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo man is recovering after a shooting at a nightclub early Sunday morning. Police responded to Club Legacy just before 1:00 after an officer in the area heard a gunshot. When police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. MARION, IA (IRN) – A Marion teen was rushed to a hospital after accidentally being shot Sunday morning. A man was cleaning a firearm when it discharged and struck a teenager. The teen has serious injuries. SAN ANTONIO, TX (IRN) – The University of Iowa women’s basketball team beat Central Michigan 87-72 on Sunday in the first round of the women’s NCAA Tournament. Iowa advances to play Kentucky on Tuesday.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – A former Sioux City councilman has pleaded guilty to illegally storing and transporting several tons of toxic leaded glass processed by his now-closed recycling company. Aaron Rochester faces up to five years in prison on each charge. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – Firefighters in Waterloo rescued a man trapped under a skid loader at a burial vault business. The hydraulics that operate the arms of the skid loader bucket failed, sending one of the arms crashing down on a mechanic and pinning him. INDIANAPOLIS, IA (IRN) – Iowa watched as higher seeds dropped out of the bracket in an opening day of upsets in the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes avoided joining the list with an impressive shooting night and another dominating performance from their All-American. Luka Garza scored 24 points and Iowa cruised into the next round with an 86-74 victory over Grand Canyon in the West Region on Saturday night. USC beat Drake 72-56. IOWA (IRN) – The Iowa Hawkeyes are the 2021 NCAA wrestling champions. Led by national champ Spencer Lee, the Hawks put seven athletes on the podium. ISU Cyclone David Carr took first place at 157.

ST. LOUIS, MO (IRN) – Hawkeye seniors Spencer Lee, Jaydin Eierman, and Michael Kemerer will all compete for individual national titles in wrestling this evening at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. The Hawkeyes lead the Nittany Lions in the team standings by 14.5 points. Iowa has not won a national title as a team since 2010. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa will receive nearly $775 million in relief to help with pandemic-related expenses in Pre-K-12 schools as part of the latest round of federal relief, the Iowa Department of Education announced on Friday. IOWA (IRN) – A Wartburg College student filed a class action lawsuit against the college over the cost of tuition after losing on-campus educational time and in-person resources amid the pandemic. The suit alleges the value of the remote learning provided by the college was less than the value of the on-campus experience promised by the college. A Mount Mercy University student has filed a similar lawsuit against the Cedar Rapids university. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is scheduled to be in Des Moines next week to speak on the new American Rescue Plan. Vice President Kamala Harris’ husband will join Secretary of Agriculture, and former Iowa governor, Tom Vilsack for an event on Monday. No details have been released on where the event will take place. SAINT CHARLES, IA (IRN) – The Hinterland Music festival sold out of all its festival passes in just 10 minutes. The festival will run from Aug. 6 through Aug. 8 in St. Charles. Tickets went on sale Friday morning.

INWOOD, IA (IRN) – The West Lyon Community School District confirmed one of its students died Friday morning. School officials said the third-grade student was killed in an accident between a school bus and a vehicle. The bus was stopped to pick up students when the vehicle driven by a 17-year-old girl struck it from behind. The 9-year-old was a passenger in her vehicle. The 17-year-old was hospitalized. No one was injured on the bus. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Biden administration may sue Iowa if Governor Reynolds signs a controversial housing bill sitting on her desk. The bill would prohibit cities and counties from banning landlords from discriminating against tenants based on their use of federal housing assistance. AMES, IA (IRN) – Sheriffs in two central Iowa counties say their offices are looking for the person or people who dumped slain cattle along gravel roads in their jurisdictions. Two cows and a calf were found dead in Boone and Greene counties on March 10. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Thursday that flags should be lowered to half-staff immediately. It comes after eight people were killed in the Atlanta area. Six of them were of Asian descent. The victims were shot and killed at three massage parlors. The governor’s orders are in conjunction with President Joe Biden’s proclamation to lower flags. WEST LAFAYETTE, IN (IRN) – Wichita State missed an open three at the buzzer and the Drake men’s basketball team held on for a thrilling 53-52 NCAA Tournament win Thursday. The game was the school’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2008. Drake came back from 12 down with a huge second half. ST. LOUIS, MO (IRN) – The 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships began Thursday at Enterprise Center in St. Louis. The Iowa Hawkeyes enter as the top-ranked team and favorites to claim their 24th national title and first since 2010, with qualifiers at all 10 weights, including four No. 1 seeds. Iowa advanced eight wrestlers to the quarterfinals and finished the first day 18-2 and in the team lead with 33.5 points.

AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State University officials announced today that T.J. Otzelberger will return “home” to Ames as the 21st head men’s basketball coach in Iowa State history. Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said Otzelberger will be introduced virtually Friday at 10:30 a.m. Otzelberger served as an assistant to Greg McDermott and Fred Hoiberg and remains close to Pollard. He is married to former ISU star Allison Lacey. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds announced Wednesday that all adult Iowans will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination starting April 5 if state allocations continue as planned. USA (IRN) – The Internal Revenue Service will delay the April 15 tax deadline until mid-May. This is the second consecutive year the IRS has delayed the deadline. Last February, the deadline was extended to July 15. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Drake University announced Wednesday that it agreed to an eight-year contract extension with head men’s basketball coach Darian DeVries. DeVries is in his third season with the Bulldogs and brought the team to its first at-large selection in the tournament. Drake faces Wichita State tonight in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Nine years ago, a boy with down syndrome named Matthew Kiernan walked into Springers Martial Arts Academy in Dubuque to start training. Almost a decade later, Matthew earned his black belt. He says it was “easy.”
