DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Dubuque Police responded to a shots fired call last night and found a home had been shot at numerous times. KCRG-TV reports three adults were at home at the time of the shooting, but no one was injured. Shell casings and bullet damage was reported on two sides of the house, and a fence. The shooting is not believed to be a random act. BLOOMFIELD, IA (IRN) – Davis County deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash just south of Bloomfield Tuesday night. KTVO-TV reports a minivan ran a stop sign and collided with a car, sending it into a ditch. Multiple people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. LUANA, IA (IRN) – A northeastern Iowa man has died after being trapped in a grain bin Monday. The Telegraph Herald reports that 88-year-old Duane Walter, of McGregor, died after entering the bin near Luana to break up some corn. Officials say Walter was completely covered by the corn in the incident. It took rescue crews about an hour to find and remove him from the bin. IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Students planted hundreds of flags outside the Old Capitol Museum at the University of Iowa yesterday, according to KCRG-TV. It was done to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Students wrote messages on the flags to remember friends and family lost to suicide. One student said if the display helps save one life, it’s all worth it. CLIVE, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Lottery says the Social Security numbers of nearly 3,000 Iowa Lottery winners were inadvertently posted to a website this month. The information was in data spreadsheets listing winners of $600 or more in 2011. Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich apologized and said the lottery will offer credit monitoring to those whose data was released. WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A West Des Moines man is in critical condition after his car overturned and crashed into a house and entered the dining room Monday night about 8:00 p.m. KCCI-TV reports the homeowners say they are lucky that no one in the family was injured. Mom Emily Lyons says normally they all sit around the dining room table about that time playing Legos. But not Monday night. Lyons says, “I had my angels. I definitely had my angels.”

BLUE GRASS, IA (IRN) – An Iowa police chief was injured when his squad car collided with a stolen garbage truck he was chasing near the eastern Iowa city of Blue Grass. Buffalo Police Chief Terry Behning was laying stop-sticks on the road when he was hit by the suspect in the truck. He was flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. The driver of the stolen garbage truck, 20-year-old Logan Shoemaker, was also hurt, but not seriously. WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle this morning in Waterloo. KCRG-TV reports the 65-year-old woman was hit by a van and has serious injuries. The van was a school district vehicle, but no students were inside. DUBUQUE, (IRN) – A record $10 million dollar verdict has been reached in a medical malpractice lawsuit in Dubuque, according to KWWL-TV. 80-year-old Richard Pellock sought cancer treatment at Finley Hospital. During surgery, Pellock died because his stomach hadn’t been emptied–he drowned on his own stomach contents. JOHNSTON, IA (IRN) – The Johnston Police Department has launched an investigation into an assault involving several minors. KCCI-TV reports four suspects were involved in the assault of a male juvenile at a Johnston home. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Nurses at Linn County Public Health say they’re already seeing flu patients, according to KCRG-TV. Nurses expect flu season to pick up sometime next month, and carry through to at least February. Anyone 6 months and older is encouraged to get the flu vaccine. AMES, IA (IRN) – Iowa State football coach Matt Campbell supports wide receiver Allen Lazard after he criticized President Trump this weekend. The Des Moines Register reports Lazard tweeted he was upset by Trump’s position on NFL players not standing during the national anthem. Lazard tweeted, “Never have I ever been ashamed to be American. It’s disgusting to have the leader of the free world like this, #TakeAKnee.” Campbell says he will support the players if they decide to make a statement, saying, “Whatever our guys do, you hope it’s unified, you hope it’s powerful.”

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Members of the Iowa National Guard are being sent to Puerto Rico to provide assistance in the wake of Hurricane Maria. Twenty-four airmen that are part of the Security Forces are leaving Des Moines Tuesday morning. The forces are based in Sioux City and Des Moines. The airmen will assist the civilian security forces. HUMBOLDT COUNTY, IA (IRN) – A 12-year-old boy was killed and two other people suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash in Humboldt County Sunday night. The Iowa State Patrol reports a Ford Edge driven by 40-year-old Trisha Luthro of Badger was traveling east in the westbound lane and struck a westbound Buick LaCrosse driven by 39-year-old Kevin Ahlstrom of Humboldt.The passenger in Ahlstrom’s vehicle, 12-year-old Brady Ahlstrom, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two vehicles hit head-on at the crest of a hill. FORT MADISON, IA (IRN) – An arrest has been made in the killing of a man whose body was discovered in a park in Lee County in February. KTVO-TV reports 35-year-old Joseph Mayorga has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 47-year-old James Nelson. An autopsy showed Nelson had been killed by a gunshot to the head. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A gunman is still on the loose after shooting another man early Sunday and crashing his car into a Burger King in Des Moines. KCCI-TV reports the victim was shot in the arm just after 3 a.m. After the crash, the gunman fled. Two women were also in his car. They were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of their injuries. One witness said, “I don’t know what this world’s coming to anymore. It’s scary for everybody.” VAN BUREN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa teen is recovering after a crash sent his truck airborne. The Iowa State Patrol reports 19-year-old Trent Richards of Danville lost control of his vehicle, entered a ditch and then ‘ramped’ up a driveway, which caused the truck to go airborne and land on a fence. The truck then rolled and came to rest on its wheels. SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – The Winnebago Tribe is hoping to reclaim land in Iowa that was once part of its reservation, but local hunters are concerned they might lose access. The Sioux City Journal reports the nearly 1,700 acres of land is owned by the federal government and attracts hundreds of hunters each year.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa’s top elections official says there were “attempted outside intrusions” on the state’s elections system last year, but no breaches. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says the federal government contacted his office Friday to confirm the attempt. Pate says nothing was compromised or hacked. ELKADER, IA (IRN) – Iowa prosecutors have charged two nurses, accusing them of abusing a resident at an Elkader nursing home. Nichole Buckley and Heidi Mueller are each charged with dependent adult abuse, wanton neglect of a resident of a health care facility and tampering with records. Documents say the nurses denied food, necessary medical care and medications to the patient, then falsified records to cover their actions. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Investigators are looking into whether a fire at a Des Moines tree trimming business Thursday night was set intentionally. Firefighters responded to a fire on the city’s east side and found a garage, a box trailer from a semi, and a tree-trimming truck all on fire. CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The Cedar Rapids Rotary Club is working on bringing art to some Cedar Rapids parks. KCRG-TV reports on September 30, the Downtown Cedar Rapids Rotary Club will add four sculptures in Bever, Cherry Hill, Jones and Noelridge Parks. The rotary bought the artwork from local artist Tom Newport.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The owner of a West Des Moines record store was arrested Friday after he recorded video of a young female employee using the restroom. KCCI-TV reports the girl spotted the camera, found the video of her on it, and called her parents. The SD card on the camera also contained thousands of files of what appears to be juveniles performing sex acts. Robert Kuhn, who owns Wayback Records, was arrested. IOWA COUTY, IA (IRN) – Three young people died and one was seriously injured in a crash on a rural road in Iowa County that wasn’t discovered for several hours. The driver lost control, went into a ditch, and overturned into a creek. MASON CITY, IA (IRN) – A juvenile led authorities on a high-speed chase Friday night near Mason City, according to the Iowa State Patrol. A trooper attempted to stop a vehicle for failure to dim their headlights, but rather than stopping, a pursuit began. Speeds reached more than 100 mph before troopers were able to stop the vehicle and take the juvenile into custody. DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Just 11 days after groundbreaking, the reconstruction of the Ronald McDonald house in Des Moines is complete. WHO-TV reports workers started on September 11 and were putting on finishing touches Friday, September 22. There were anywhere from 75 to over 150 workers on the construction site 24/7. Out of town families rely on the Ronald McDonald House during treatment of their children at the hospital so they don’t have to pay hotel bills.
