RACINE, WI (IRN) – A former pastor from the Ainsworth Community Church in Washington County was arrested in Wisconsin after trying to meet with who he thought was a 15-year-old girl for sex, but was really a sheriff’s investigator. KCII-radio reports 48-year-old Scott Nesbitt made arrangements to meet the girl at a McDonald’s and drive to an undisclosed location. Instead, he was arrested.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – Authorities have accused a Dubuque woman of stealing from a disabled man while she worked for a service agency. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports that 24-year-old Jatika Williams is charged with dependent adult abuse-exploitation and theft. Williams allegedly stole nearly $1,100 from the man while working for Area Residential Care.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The Iowa Supreme Court has issued a statewide order prohibiting weapons in courthouses. The order does not affect peace officers. Currently, 72 counties prohibit weapons in courthouses but just nine have airport-like detectors at entrances. According to the court, the goal of the order is to uniformly protect all Iowans.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 67-year-old Des Moines woman has been sentenced to 16 months in federal prison for her role in a Nigerian email scam. Victoria Lovan was sentenced Tuesday for three counts of wire fraud. Lovan accepted money wires from victims all across the country, kept part of the money, and sent the rest to Nigeria.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett announced his bid for Iowa Governor yesterday. He promised to be a conservative Republican with an independent streak. He says the four areas that need changes most are state taxes, water quality, concern for citizens and K through 12 education. Corbett will challenge current Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds in next year’s Republican primary.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines woman believes a smartphone app saved her baby’s life, according to WHO-TV. Emily Eekhoff was 33 weeks pregnant when she noticed her baby’s kick count was down. She had been using the Count the Kicks app, which helps monitor a baby’s movements. She went to the hospital, where doctors found the baby’s umbilical cord had become wrapped around her neck three times, which can be fatal. Doctors performed an emergency C-section, and baby Ruby spent 20 days in intensive care. This week, Ruby is going home.

MAHASKA COUNTY, IA (IRN) – The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating after a body was found in a home in rural Mahaska County Monday. An autopsy has been scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

SIOUX CITY, IA (IRN) – An unidentified woman jumped into the Missouri River Monday near the Anderson Dance Pavilion in Sioux City. She was quickly rescued by an emergency response boat. The Sioux City Journal reports the woman was transported to a local hospital for unspecified treatment.

BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – The FBI says the foot recovered in June 2016 at Lake West in Burlington belonged to a man missing since 2015. KWQC-TV reports the family of Steven Leasure reported him missing in May of 2015. He was last seen at a convenience store in Burlington putting air into his bike tire. Searches were conducted, but he was never found.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Police have arrested a person after a shots fired call in Davenport this morning. WQAD-TV reports no one was hurt by gunfire, but the suspect led police on a car chase into Rock Island where he crashed his vehicle. Rock Island Police made the arrest at the scene.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – Cedar Rapids fire investigators say fireworks caused a fire that destroyed a garage and heavily damaged a house Monday night. KCRG-TV reports fire crews arrived to find the garage fully engulfed in flames, which had spread to the attic and second floor of the home. The two adults, two children, and pets who lived in the home got out safely.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – For the first time, an Iowan will be on the cover of the World Wrestling Entertainment’s video game. The WWE announced Monday that Iowa native Seth Rollins will be the cover Superstar for WWE 2K18, the latest release in the video game franchise. KCCI-TV reports Rollins follows in the footsteps of other WWE 2K cover Superstars – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Rollins was born in Buffalo, Iowa, and lives in Davenport.

KLEMME, IA (IRN) – A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car south of Klemme in Hancock County. The Iowa State Patrol reports the driver of a southbound car tried to pass another vehicle but collided with a northbound motorcycle. The motorcyclist, 31-year-old Nathan Wadsley of Belmond, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, 33-year-old Shannon Gamble of Garner, was hospitalized.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque Police Officer on patrol heard multiple gunshots and responded to the scene Sunday. KCRG-TV reports the officer found 26-year-old Cortez Robinson of Dubuque on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Robinson was hospitalized with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – Six people were transported to the hospital after a car hit a semi and rolled on I-80 in Davenport yesterday. KWQC-TV reports the car cut in front of the semi to get onto the exit ramp and they collided. All six in the car suffered apparent non-life threatening injuries.

AMES, IA (IRN) – A high number of deaths that require autopsies and an understaffed Iowa Medical Examiner’s Office have created delays of up to two weeks in returning the remains of loved ones to family members. KWWL-TV reports the State Medical Examiner’s office sent a message to the Iowa Funeral Director’s Association, notifying them that they no longer can say with certainty what day an autopsy will be performed or when the body will be released.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowans were told in January that their state tax refunds would be delayed several weeks in an effort to prevent identity theft and fraud. But the Des Moines Register reports there is another reason: Iowa simply doesn’t have enough cash on hand to pay people at the same pace as in previous years.

BETTENDORF, IA (IRN) – After they groom the greens and fairways each morning at Palmer Hills Golf Course in Bettendorf, groundskeepers shift their focus to a new task–gardening. The Quad City Times reports a 2,400-square-foot fruit and vegetable garden now lies near the 7th and 8th holes. The produce will be used at the country club’s Palmer Grill, and the manager says the garden will reduce bills and boost the quality of dishes coming out of the kitchen.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police are investigating the city’s first double homicide this year, which stemmed from a dispute at a party. KCCI-TV reports it is unclear what started the dispute. Police say officers dealt with a “hostile crowd” and witnesses weren’t cooperating with detectives. No arrests have been made. The slayings mark the city’s 17th and 18th homicides this year, compared with 13 homicides in all of 2016.

MOUNT VERNON, IA (IRN) – The Linn County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who drowned in the Cedar River near Mount Vernon Friday. Rescue workers were called for a report of a man falling into the river. First responders found 68-year-old Jeffery Fordyce, of Dike, unresponsive, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

MARSHALLTOWN, IA (IRN) – Crews in Marshalltown responded to a report of a house fire early Saturday morning. WHO-TV reports upon arriving at the residence, fire officials found smoke coming from the basement and first floor windows; the fire was later found in a wall in the basement, caused by a faulty outlet. The homeowner said he and his wife had been sleeping when they were woken up by the home’s fire alarms. They made it out safely.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The Iowa City landfill wants to ban corrugated cardboard. KCRG-TV reports corrugated cardboard is a lot thicker than regular cardboard. Some common examples include moving boxes and pizza boxes. The city estimates banning corrugated cardboard would divert 12,000 to 14,000 tons of materials from the landfill.
