WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A house and a garage in Waterloo were struck by gunfire Tuesday afternoon, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Neighbors reported hearing gunfire and seeing people scatter on foot and on bikes. Officers found spent shell casings in the area. No injuries were reported.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man has been arrested and charged in a death investigation in West Des Moines, according to KCCI-TV. 28-year-old Travis West of Norwalk was charged with involuntary manslaughter and delivery of a controlled substance — heroin. On June 5 officers responded to the report of an unconscious woman at an apartment building. West allegedly provided illegal drugs to the victim.

DUBUQUE, IA (IRN) – A Dubuque man was stabbed with a pocket knife at Kennedy Mall on Friday night after a confrontation over Facebook messages he sent to the attacker’s girlfriend, according the Dubuque Telegraph Herald.  Twenty six-year-old Tommy Price Jr., of Mount Morris, Ill., is charged with willful injury-causing serious injury, a felony. The knife punctured the victim’s lung.

BLACK HAWK COUNTY, IA (IRN) – Two people have been killed in a head-on collision this morning in Black Hawk County. KWWL-TV reports a motorcycle collided with a car.  One person on the motorcycle died along with one person in the car. The accident is under investigation, and no names have been released.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police say they have arrested a man for the double homicide that happened last week, according to KCCI-TV. Albert Jeffrey Garcia, 20, was arrested Tuesday evening. Police said he is the man responsible for shooting and killing 20-year-old Demetrius Thomas and 19-year-old Mohammad Nabeel Mirzai near Drake University. Garcia has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – A 43-year-old Davenport man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for robbing the Family Credit Union in June 2014, according to WQAD-TV. Adrian Lomas was one of two people who were accused of robbing the credit union with a fake gun. Police said the two people ran from the bank after one of them flashed the gun in his waistband and demanded money from a teller. The other robbery suspect is a 15-year-old boy.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Iowa Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds on Monday did not rule out Iowa hosting Middle East refugees, saying she hopes the federal government will communicate with state leaders if that happens, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. President Barack Obama has said the United States will take in roughly 10,000 Syrian refugees over the next year.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An anonymous donor has provided a Cedar Rapids police K-9 with a protective vest, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. K-9 officer Bane has been given a ballistic vest that costs approximately $2,000. The vests weigh an average of four to five pounds.
