BURLINGTON, IA (IRN) – Officials are working to return to Iowa two Missouri men suspected of killing a southeast Iowa teenager. The Hawk Eye reports the men were charged with first-degree murder. Authorities suspect the two shot to death 16-year-old Kedarie Johnson, whose body was found March 2 in a Burlington alley. He was a junior at Burlington High School.

OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – A southeast Iowa man is behind bars following theft charges. KTVO-TV reports 24-year-old Roger Howell of Agency was arrested Monday in connection with a robbery at an Ottumwa Hy-Vee. Howell entered the store and demanded money from a clerk. He then left with an undisclosed amount of money.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Des Moines mother is in jail after her child suffocated. KCCI-TV reports 26-year-old Laci Taylor left the child unattended on a changing table. The little girl rolled over, her neck was compressed on the ledge of the changing table, cutting off her airway, killing her. The child’s father says it was a horrible, freak accident, and his wife shouldn’t be in jail. He says “I wake up every morning… with a panic attack because I hear my wife screaming my daughter’s name. That’s what I have to live with every day.”

IDA COUNTY, IA (IRN) – An Iowa woman was found dead in her car Friday, according to WHO-TV. 84-year-old Beverly Joy Annear was driving to visit a friend in a nursing home in Ida Grove when she got lost. Annear ended up on a gravel road, turned into a bean field, and got stuck. She died from exposure.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – St. Paul the Apostle School in Davenport has reduced the number of flu cases in half over the past three years. They highly recommend students get flu shots, keep hand sanitizer in every classroom, sanitize hand railings regularly, and encourage kids to use water bottles and not the drinking fountain.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa State University is receiving a $93 million majority stake in the Massachusetts-based education company Curriculum Associates. It’s one of the largest gifts ever to the university. The Iowa City Press-Citizen says once the company is sold, the university’s share will be designated for various projects within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The couple are alumni, but wish to remain anonymous.
