CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – An armed robbery took place shortly after midnight this morning in Iowa City, according to KCRG-TV. Authorities found the people matching the description, but they fled. After a foot chase, police were able to arrest a 16-year-old girl. She faces numerous charges. The other suspects were able to get away.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A West Des Moines man handling a gun in his basement accidentally discharged the weapon, and the bullet went through the ceiling wounding his mother who was lying in bed. KCCI-TV reports 21-year-old Gage Mauk has been charged with the reckless use of a firearm causing injury as well as several narcotics charges.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An audit of Des Moines Roosevelt High School’s basketball program has raised questions about the school’s fundraising methods. WHO-TV reports an investigation of the girls’ basketball program and the activities department determined that some financial transactions were not properly deposited. Two non-district bank accounts were administered by employees in violation of the district’s policy. The two accounts total more than $1.8 million.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Police arrested two people protesting at Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley’s Des Moines office on Friday. The group Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement says police arrested its Executive Director, Hugh Espey. They also arrested Reddit Hudson, the regional Director of the NAACP. They were protesting the nomination of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – The ACLU is calling on Iowa City to remove security cameras that record inside the bathrooms of its popular downtown public library. KCRG-TV reports the civil liberties organization says the cameras that record common areas of the restrooms raise serious privacy concerns. They say the library should use less intrusive methods to prevent theft.
