DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A man shot and killed his wife yesterday in Des Moines’ 16th homicide of the year. KCCI-TV reports authorities in Ames apprehended 50-year-old Harold Dudley, who is accused of shooting and killing his estranged wife, 36-year-old Mary Dudley. The two were married but living apart at the time of the shooting.

DEWITT, IA (IRN) – Emergency crews responded to reports of a gas explosion at the Guardian Industries glass plant in DeWitt Saturday. WQAD-TV reports the explosion injured a number of employees. The number injured and their conditions have not been released.

BOONE, IA (IRN) – Vice President Mike Pence joined Senator Joni Ernst’s 3rd Annual Roast and Ride from Des Moines to Boone Saturday. WHO-TV reports the event helped raise money for Hope for Warriors, a nonprofit that helps with veterans and their families transitioning after military service. Pence praised President Trump numerous times throughout his speech, saying the president made the right decision in starting the process of removing the United States from the Paris climate change agreement.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – The old Cedar Rapids landfill known as ‘mount trashmore’ is in the middle of a major renovation. KCRG-TV reports by planting 19 acres of milkweed, volunteers with the Master Naturalists and employees at the Solid Waste Agency are hoping it will create a habitat for Monarchs, and turn the eyesore into an asset.
