DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A Runnells man who pled guilty for conspiring to transport a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity was sentenced to life in prison Friday. 51-year-old Michael Lee Williams pled guilty of conspiring to transport a minor from Minnesota to Polk County with the intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity, and that, at the time he committed the offense, he was a registered sex offender.

LINN COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person was killed and another injured in a motorcycle/car accident in rural Linn County Friday. KWWL-TV reports a 56-year-old woman was making a turn when she was struck by a 23-year-old man on a motorcycle. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driver of the vehicle has minor injuries.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Des Moines police and a fire department water rescue team have recovered a body from the Birdland Marina, according to WHO-TV. The identity of the victim has not yet been determined, and the incident is under investigation.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A 4-year-old Des Moines girl accidentally shot herself in the leg. KCCI-TV reports the girl found the firearm underneath her parents’ bed and took the gun into her room and ended up shooting herself in the thigh. The parents might face charges.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – An Iowa woman charged with voting twice for Donald Trump has pled guilty to election misconduct. KCRG-TV reports 56-year-old Terri Lynn Rote turned in two absentee ballots before the election because she believed Trump’s unsubstantiated claims that the election was rigged and that her first ballot would be changed to a vote for Hillary Clinton. She was arrested at a satellite voting location in Des Moines, attempting to vote the second ballot. Attorneys are recommending two years of probation and community service.
