CLINTON, IA (IRN) – Police have accused a 63-year-old man of beating his son to death in eastern Iowa. Glenn Plummer III, of Camanche, is charged with second-degree murder. Plummer originally was charged with domestic abuse after a police officer found him and his son, 38-year-old Joseph Plummer, the night of May 30 at a Camanche apartment. Joseph Plummer told investigators that his father had beaten him. He later died.

WASHINGTON, IA (IRN) – A 32-year-old Washington man was arrested after driving 142 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone south of Wellman. KCII-radio reports Travis Cole Brown was arrested and charged with driving under suspension, expired registration, reckless driving, driving 76 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone, and driving 142 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. Charges are pending for operating while intoxicated, felony eluding, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – A tractor-trailer found in a Texas Walmart parking lot with nine dead immigrants and 20 others in dire condition had an Iowa license plate. KCCI-TV reports the tractor-trailer was registered to Pyle Transportation of the northwestern Iowa town of Schaller. Owner Brian Pyle says the Kentucky-based driver was on his first trip. He managed his own deliveries and operated largely independently from the company.

DAVENPORT, IA (IRN) – The Davenport Police Department is getting their K-9 unit ready to combat more dangerous drugs. WQAD-TV reports growing concerns of narcotics laced with fentanyl has moved the department to require every officer on the K-9 unit to carry their own kit with the overdose reversal drug naloxone, in case the dogs encounter the drugs. Officers are prepared to administer the naloxone to the dogs if necessary.

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (IRN) – A Cedar Rapids adult entertainment club, the Lumberyard, caught fire Sunday afternoon. Firefighters found a fire in the center of the structure and quickly extinguished it. No one was in the business at the time of the fire.

BOONE, IA (IRN) – A Boone woman is looking to thank the man who saved her life. WHO-TV reports Brenda Perry had a heart attack at a rest stop along I-35. Daughter Brandi Stuart says, “My mother was dead…she had no pulse and she wasn’t breathing. A man walked up and said, ‘Ma’am, I’m a nurse, it’s okay.'” The man gave Perry CPR, which doctors say saved her life. In the commotion, the man left without being thanked. The family calls it “divine intervention.”
