JEFFERSON COUNTY, IA (IRN) – One person was injured and livestock were killed when a truck went into a creek in Jefferson County this morning, according to KCII-radio. The tractor trailer was loaded with cattle and left the roadway, entered a ditch and came to rest partially submerged in the creek. The driver was extricated and transported to the University of Iowa Hospital.

RED OAK, IA (IRN) – Police arrested a ten-year-old Iowa boy Monday after he tried to sell marijuana to a classmate. KWQC-TV reports after the incident at Washington School in Red Oak, police searched a nearby home. 34-year-old Erin Bartles was arrested. Police say before the incident occurred the boy learned where Bartles had some marijuana hidden and took it. The boy was referred to juvenile authorities.

WATERLOO, IA (IRN) – A Waterloo man has been charged with first degree murder in the death of a four-year-old child found unconscious in July. KCRG-TV reports charges have been filed against 23-year-old Walter Williams, who was already in the Black Hawk County Jail on unrelated charges. The child died from blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen.

OTTUMWA, IA (IRN) – Fake money is being passed in Ottumwa, according to KTVO-TV. Merchants are finding counterfeit ten and 50 dollar bills in their cash registers.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Nearly 400 Iowa National Guard soldiers are preparing for overseas deployment after President Trump said he would send nearly 4,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. The soldiers are currently stationed in Muscatine, Davenport, Waterloo, and Boone.

WINTERSET, IA (IRN) – An 11-year-old girl is lucky to be alive after she was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in Winterset. Trooper Alex Dinkla of the Iowa State Patrol happened to be driving nearby when the accident happened, and heard the girl scream. She was trapped between her bicycle and the car, and Dinkla was able to free her. He says she is a lucky girl, and is glad she wore a helmet. It was crushed in the collision. The girl suffered minor injuries.
