VINTON, IA (IRN) – A garbage truck driver was killed in a crash this morning near Vinton, according to KWWL-TV. Two people were thrown out of the garbage truck when it collided with another vehicle. There is no word on other injuries.

LOCKRIDGE, IA (IRN) – A Lockridge man could spend 25 years in jail for stealing less than $1,000 from a local retailer, according to WQAD-TV. 25-year-old Tyler James Watson committed ten thefts–all misdemeanors–from the Fairfield Walmart. Collectively, the thefts constitute Ongoing Criminal Conduct, a Class B felony.

IOWA CITY, IA (IRN) – Iowa City police are looking for the driver of a semi-truck that hit a 13-year-old girl Monday and left the scene. KGAN-TV reports the girl reportedly stepped into the crosswalk at an intersection just moments before the truck ran a red light, running over her foot and spinning her around. The driver left, and the teen was able to walk out of the intersection with minor injuries.

DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – Someone carved a swastika into an elevator at Drake University Saturday evening, according to KCCI-TV. Offensive racial slurs were also written on a white board outside a student’s room. All have been removed and campus police are investigating.

WEST DES MOINES, IA (IRN) – The West Des Moines City Council has banned the use of fireworks in the city, according to WHO-TV. After allowing fireworks for six hours on the Fourth of July, the city received many complaints, resulting in the ban. The city of Des Moines is also considering a ban.

NORTH LIBERTY, IA (IRN) – A North Liberty woman is facing a child endangerment charge after allegedly choking a 12-year-old boy. KCRG-TV reports the boy told officers he got into an argument with 41-year-old Christina Dochterman and she choked him, making it difficult to breathe. When police arrived, Dochterman smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech. When officers asked her how much she had to drink, she replied “not enough.” She was arrested.
